either way, "being played in lcs" doesn't determine whether something is meta or not. he's one of the best top laners in solo queue at the moment whether you want to believe it or not.
especially with W start and taking ghost, getting a kill at level 1 or 2 is pretty common. the season 7 mastery changes also synergize with him very well.

In fact-- and I might be going way out on a limb here but-- they might play champions they enjoy who happen to fit into the meta. Unlike the rest of League of Legends, people probably enjoy winning up there in the dream version of League...

Darius was played in LCS repeatedly for about 6 months to a year before he ever won a single big match.

will need sustained damage and some hp, itll be harder for her but she actually can beat darius as long as you don't try to it during levels like 4-9

Man I really need something for that cough.
If you have a problem with champions getting free stats, it's best to be fair and address everyone who gets free stats.
Also, if you have such a problem with Darius getting armor pen you could, A) Dodge his Q or B) build HP. An early 
goes a long way.
Oh BTW: Last Whisper is 30% Bonus Armor Pen. Darius has 5% - 25% total armor pen. Not the same thing.
