I tried to support Dynamic queue but....

I believe solo/duo queue is healthier for the game and for the competitive nature of ranked. I am probably too low of an elo to really notice the major difference between dynamic queue, but my opinion has changed. I originally thought dynamic queue would be an interesting twist to ranked and although I figured it would lead to many qq threads, elo boosting, and trolling I figured I would give it a shot. After the first couple of months I am starting to get sick of dynamic queue. Not the new champ select but the idea of having promenades play and be compared to solo players on the same ladder.

I did try grouping with a couple of random people like Riot encouraged when they said they were introducing dynamic queue. I had some fun and played with a couple players a few times. Others I decided I did not enjoy playing with and quit playing with them right away. But after two months I no longer have the desire to group with random people and if I do it generally is only 1 other person. When I play ranked with friends I only duo queue.... The only time I group with more than one person is when I play with my even lower elo friends and I "smurf" for that. One because these friends are lower rank and two because they don't try super hard and end up trolling or treating the games like normal almost..... Its gotten to the point where I just don't take those games seriously and my alternate account does not rank up at all. I just think allowing players to group more than 2 is asking for too much trouble and is killing the competitive nature more than helping it.

Not really sure why Riot did not just introduce new champ select into solo/duo queue. New champ select is fine, but the ability to be a 3-5 man premade sucks. I know there are many threads out there that have brought up many different points. Riot is most likely not going to comment on any of these threads anytime soon nor will they go back to solo/duo queue. I am just afraid dynamic queue is going to lead to the end of league of legends for a majority of players. The only thing keeping me playing has been about climbing the ladder. And although I am excited to reach gold early this season I have seen many of my prior gold friends quit playing league. Maybe they are just taking a break but I know a few of them have been struggle this season more than ever to climb the ladder. My only thought at this point is dynamic queue is to blame.

So please, make dynamic queue limited to partnering with 1 other person (duo queue). This way Riot gets to keep new champ select and at the same time significantly reducing premades impact on the ladder. There is probably some programming problems and costs involved, but its the best option in keeping the largest number of players interested in League.

Why not just lower the LP gains on premade teams and up the LP loss for premade teams. Solo queue players will in turn get an LP gain increase and an lp loss decrease to make up for the strategic deficit of not being in a premade?

JRobin311 votes

I like this idea, but I would make both the LP gain and loss be less. Players, particularly in lower ranks, make bad premades because they don't really understand how to use a premade. It makes sense for premades to be a lower risk, lower gain option than queuing solo.

Also, major complaints about premades are that players use premades to gain rank for less skilled players and that solo players have a harder time climbing to their true rank. The difference in LP gain would directly impact both of these issues.

I feel like your idea is coming from someone who hasn't actually played this game, or is so out of touch with lower elo games it's not even funny.

One solo player going 0/13/0 can completely offset any strategy that a two or three man premade can come up with, especially if they're all on their mains and not Smurfs. You'd arbitrarily sink anyone wanting to play with a friend to Bronze 5, while boosting anyone who plays solo to high Silver.

But Riot is saying coordination is SOOOO important and that communication is so intrinsically vital to success that one person failing should be offset by the combined competence of their premade comms.

But right there is where Riot has their disconnect. Their ideology is just wrong.

Citation needed. I'm not aware of any combination of quotes which could be taken to mean that Riot thinks communication and coordination will trump every else in this game.

Dynamic need to be dropped.

And even the role pick need to be dropped, you can't have something like than when you have underplayed roles...

New draft pick and dynamicQ just don't mix well.

Getting the roles you don't want and/or seeing people troll because they don't get what they want is already bad enough, plus the unfairness of premades from both sides? That's what we're talking about.

I'm all in for Q'ing up with friends in ranked, but trying to win is another story because of the "mystery number of premades" you have to face.

New draft precisely prevents getting roles you don't want tho...

The thing it's supposed to do that.

Though I have heard of stories where someone Q'd for sup/bot and got jungle. Or the famous stories of picking fill/support secondary = get support 9/10 games.

######And the thing that many support mains fear: not getting support for some reason, despite of the "famous stories" above.

This pretty much sums up my season 6 so far. I have mainly picked fill and therefore a good chunk of my games have been played as support. 2 games ago I did get mid but I was playing with a duo. We both picked fill and got mid & jungle (strange right?).

Im fine with it i like the new match making, as for supports i play them in this order, kench, bard, nami, braum, leona, alustar, blitz. Im not inlove with blitz but he is rly solid in low elo, leona can easily get u to gold, shes an easier braum, braum does not deal enough dmg for my liking. I know this wasent about supports in general just my two cents, bard is really overlooked, i see people max his e second and have no idea why, with 5%cdr mastery its 14.4 second cd it last 10 second thats only 4.4 downtime or true cd, while max range w heals 230base after sitting 10 secons, u can have 3 up at once, 230x3=690, thars alot of sustain for ur carry and ult is not hard to use properly, walj up river use e get there faster through dragon pit and stop that gank to save ur mid laner or hit that fleaing ten percent fizz so ur mid can catch up giving you an easy assist. If u farm his passive irs tons of dmg and q is not that hard to land, really underrated support im pimping to keep the bat away from my broken op baby tahm kench whom i can jungle god with or beat shyvana top with.

Just getting back into the game, I've been maining support, and mostly enjoying it. That said, attempting to branch out to other roles using the new champ select with support as a secondary role has yielded support in virtually 100% of games.

I like the idea of the champion select for matchmaking, and see potential. I also don't think long(er) queue times are that big of an issue, since people know they will wait longer if they are queueing into more popular roles. Nothing to be done about this, or should be.

People who are willing or wanting to play support shouldn't be stuck in that role most of the time if it is their secondary choice. All you are doing is discouraging people from even being willing to take up that role most of the time because they know if they list it secondary it's going to be what they get.

Yea I guess the game comes down to what do you want rank to reflect? Back in solo/duo queue rank reflected (at least more than dynamic queue) that someone could reach a certain rank playing with 3 to 4 other random players and having the possibility of potentially playing all roles. Now its more "how high of a rank can you achieve with your friends, or just playing 1 to 2 roles". Either way there is skill measured and I am sure it comes down to the individual on what they believe rank should measure. I personally think your rank should reflect how good you are at the game playing with random players and playing most if not all roles. Others however would disagree.

Rank, as is stands now, reflects little in terms of gameplay ability. Ranked teams have always been used to get the undeserved gold rewards, solo Q elo boosting aside. Having it all mushed together is just senseless to me. I'd like to think I understand where Riot is coming from with this move, but it's really a bad one. They need to respect the solo Q players, while finding other ways to facilitate team building and community.

The Whamboozler1 votes

Ranked should be about individual skill, not about who has the better premade group.

Dukues1 votes

If Riot could figure out a way to have fill mean more than support most of the time they could add "most played role" or something like that to your profile. That way if you played "fill" people could see your rank plus that you mostly play fill and therefore play all roles around that skill level. Or if someone is a jungle main and plays jungle mostly then their profile would say "jungle". Could have a separate board (if not in league then I am sure a 3rd party could create it) showing the top ranked players in each role and their rank. It would be kind of cool if they keep new champ select for ranked.

So i am a staunch supporter of dynamic que. I'm getting sick of all these bring back solo que / dynamic que sucks threads

That being said this thread all most sways my position. No raging, less whining, no using dynamic ques as a scape goat for your own personal failures. good job Dukues

Not to nitpick but here are some nit picks.

"I no longer have the desire to group with random people and if I do it generally is only 1 other person." How is this different then solo que?

"My only thought at this point is dynamic queue is to blame."

Having played since early seasons 3 I got to say that there a lot of things to blame over why climbing may be more frusting this season. weak turrets, imbalance in masstieres, rotating op items, league of tank-sassians, snobally matches, long death timers, more gold imballance, got to say this season has been super rocky. As a player who only ever queues up with friends i have almost quit quite a few time my self.

Dukues1 votes

You bring up some good points. There were a lot of changes made this season such as weak turrets, masteries, op items, etc that can be blamed for failure in climbing. Ranking up this season has not been different for me than in the past, it actually has gone better. I guess I am just worried more people liked solo queue rather than dynamic queue but only time will tell. Reading all the qq threads on the boards doesn't really provide a healthy example of what the actual league population feels.

I am curious to see which way Riot goes and how they support the ladder in the future. Will it be fully backing dynamic queue and never changing it? Will there be two ladders? (doubtful). Or will they some make a hybrid? Or just go back to solo/duo queue? (doubtful).
