What's up with champ select bullies?

Met an interesting stranger last night in ranked lobby. Their role is jungle and I think they may have MasterYi highlighted. I wasn't really paying attention at first as.... its champ select and low elo so nothing much to pay attention to. Next thing I see is "o wow enemy banned the ONLY 2 champs I play MasterYi XinZhao". "Well unless one of you dodge I am just going to troll". So let's break this down.

  1. The ENEMY banned your champs, yet you going to troll us?
  2. Its a SILVER elo game and you only play 2 champs? How? How are people that bad at this game?

I don't know who this person is or people like them but I HATE them. Nothing pisses me off more than someone who pulls this crap. So I instantly fired back that I wasn't dodging because UNLIKE them I don't rely on a couple champs to gain elo and can get my lp back easily. So basically told them to bring it on and I was looking forward to reporting them. To my surprise my teammates joined in as well.

So the noob dodged.

Don't try that crap with me kids. I will ride with you to the gates of hell. I have lived in low elo my entire League life. You merely adopted low elo, I was born in it, molded by it.

Unless I am at like 90lp then I will probably dodge if no one else does hehe. Usually this happens on one of my other alt accounts also in low elo so then I definitely don't give a crap if you threaten to troll.

But seriously... can we start reporting toxic behavior like this in champ select?

Honestly I'm certain the fact that people saw the Tribunal and know the in-game is the only easily readable chat and that there's no mute/report buttons in champ select queues tips these trolls off to the fact they can ruin tons of lobbies and get away with it because they either get in-game or someone else bites the bullet and dodges. There's pretty much no fear of being an ass in champ select.

There's a reason he's silver. Sadly its very hard to detect this kind of behaviour without punishing people for rage reports.

yet, you can't send the report because currently the only way to report these type of toxic players is after they have ruined not only your fun, but also any attempt at playing a nice game.

I'm going to change this phrase a bit:

It's challenger ELO and you only play 1 champ?

These are called 1 trick ponies, unless they play that one champ, else they are pretty bad.

League currently rewards mastery for being better at a single champ / role. Alot of people can play a certain champ at a much higher level as they know their match ups, they know the limits of that specific champ, they know all the tips and tricks of that champ.

Small champ pools doesn't necessarily mean bad. Though my personal opinion is that one should at least know what every champ does and play it a couple of times.

I get it but its almost becoming 2 generations of League players these days. There are people who have played forever who have some idea how to play all lanes and can play a few champs in each position. Maybe not to their own personal highest level but enough they don't have to threaten to troll. Yes there are always the one tricks but now its even worse. There is the new players of 140 champs way too much to learn plus new mastery system and role select in ranked so they only need to learn 2 champs in 2 roles. So now you get auto filled or "banned my champ" beyond garbage players in game because the system doesn't care how bad they are at 99% of the game as long as they supposedly even in skill at a bare minimum. So ranked games become insanely skill variance and it makes the game extremely dull.

I got into and continued to play in Platinum ELO for 3 seasons straight with basically only one champion. So what?

So you rage quit if you can't play your one champ? I get there are OTPs out there. Hell I get that especially when you get into plat elo. But raging and threatening to troll team over lost picks in silver at least to me is hilarious.

If I feel like it.

Much more often since Role Selection was added for sure, because it made talking with people nearly impossible. As in they won a dice roll and won't even consider replying to a polite "Can we swap roles?". If they don't respond, I'll hover a pick for the role I want. If they get butthurt about it, I'll say something "So you CAN write. What's the answer?", then it depends what they'll say. For example it they one-up their buttmad, I'll lock the pick and almost always dodge soon after.

Remember, the point of a game is to have fun. If after a long day I decide to play a match, get filled, put in a secondary role or have my champion banned, then it's simply "fuck this game".

For your information before Season 6 I was actually pretty communicative. You know, talking strategy, chit-chat, joking in /all chat with the other team. Sure got pissed sometimes as everybody. Then Riot decided to go full-on catering to casuals, so I got the shaft and randoms lost all the reason to use chat... Unless it's to trashtalk and insult. No reason is small enough for that apparently.

In the end the game turned from a "semi-team based" to "getting matched with feeding idiots who only ever use chat if they want to insult somebody".

Or maybe that's just me and it's a paradise in NA? Oh, I know for a fact it isn't - how else would you explain ~20% population drop in ranked queues?

OK, should I settle for a 3rd or 4th pick in my secondary role (in retrospect "maining" Darius and Vlad for top lane could've been a mistake) and most likely lose or... dodge and save everybody a trouble?

I'm not one of those idiots who will go through with a match regardless of how shitty and unwinnable it wouldn't look like.

That's the general idea. How soon I dodge varies depending if somebody is too stuck-up and/or annoys me.

Ah I could see why. Role stealing is heavily frowned upon. I know you mostly don't do it, but the way you worded your rant did kind of imply it.

I respect asking for a role. Hovering a pick is good too. And even though I understand the sentiment of, "So you can talk," that is where it starts to fall off the rails. I'd probably feel just as vindictive as you about it.

However we ought to use less inflammatory words when people ignore us or are rude to us for requesting a role swap. Doing things to spite them even if we are going to dodge anyway is still toxic in its own way because it raises stress levels for the rest of the team.

As I said in the following comment, I'm not against polite communication. It's just that it basically doesn't work anymore.

I believe you. But I think that the best thing to say at that point would be, "I asked about this above. Are you willing to switch?"

Rather than the, "So you can talk! What's your answer?" Even if it is justified and they were rude AF it won't improve things to say it that way.

Well, considering I'll dodge and get a penalty, I will possibly not meet that particular bundle of sticks ever again, there's not lasting effect there. Especially since rubbing sensitive snowflakes the wrong way like that is one of my types of stress relief.

Cruel, but still better than directly losing games.

Although in the back of my mind I still can't shake this voice that's saying, two wrongs don't make a right.

Morality is a great thing, isn't it?

Would you rather a onetrick dodge and not lose anyone but themselves some LP, or have the one trick play a champion they can't play on the same level as their rank potentially making everyone on the team lose much more LP.

Quite true. But it does affect the rest of the team as well, and it has the potential to increase their stress and tilt.

Deliberately riling others up is overall harmful to the game and its community. I think you ought to find a healthier way to relieve stress.

In the meantime let's say I don't really care much for "right" or "wrong", but instead about "personal convenience".

I vaguely recall what you're saying about the rank stuff, but I think you have me confused with someone else. I recall saying similar things but not to you, to somebody else. Might be that somebody else said it to you? Heck we'll probably find it tomorrow and finally figure it out.

We can continue tomorrow, I agree late night is the worst time to try to hold a healthy argument/discussion. Until then, rest well!

People thought you were saying you would troll, not that you were saying you would quit (dodge?) if you "feel like it." You did the right thing. As long as people can get other people to dodge and pay the price they will. The solution is don't. Make him pay his own price to dodge.

And if someone is getting people to dodge, what does their elo or ranking really mean? Absolutely nothing.

I climbed out of Bronze, and I assure you Silver is far, far worse.

Until you hit Plat, apparently, you'll deal with the scum of League consistently.

I know riot claims they are working on it, but from my view as a player they aren't doing a good job currently of this type of toxic behavior. I've reported people who's said more hate speech than the KKK in one game and never got a notification that my report even mattered. Another game I had a guy who in champ select stated "I'm going to intentionally feed" and then do it. Both of these were in a RANKED GAME.. I mention that because it seems riot's system is only triggered in ranked games and specialty games like ascension and dark star thresh etc. as well as being games that really "matter".

Either riot introduces something for these types of players, OR put in either an LP refund/loss prevention for any game that these type of players have been punished or their system triggers as a result of the reports.
