How do people play gangplank?

FortisDominus··1 votes·486 views

Im trying to learn gangplank, but im struggling with all these matchups:

Renekton Irelia Jax Darius Fiora Gnar

If I get any of these matchups, the top lane will just have to be a farm simulator under my tower or else I will just get steam rolled

any advice?

I was thinking i should just watch bot lane and wait for an opportunity to tp bot lane with my ult.

I think Yasuo is worse to play against as GP than any of what you listed except for Croc.

GP has a legit weak early game from what I've seen and what I've played of him. He doesn't win trades with nearly anyone until he has at least one core damage item. Contrary to what the wiki says, GP is not a strong duelist at all. If you have to ask yourself whether or not you can win the trade, you shouldn't be trading with them at all. Take advantage of weaknesses and openings.

Never fight someone when they're at their best. That's how you play GP. All of those champions are strong 1v1, which is not GP's element at all.

Attack Damage+Crit/CDR/Health are his best stats. item 3078 provides all three of these stats, which is why you should always build it first no matter what is happening.

Yasuo has never been a problem champion for me tbh. I always felt he was easy to deal with, and irelia is a counter of GP

A good Irelia is hard for almost anyone, but Yasuo in particular can be hard for GP to trade with due to his shield and Wind Wall. He also reaches his power spike far earlier than GP thanks to his passive. All he needs is a Zeal to outtrade GP, whereas GP needs Sheen and another item and that's assuming the Yasuo player is just average.

I find Darius far easier to play against with GP since everything he does is telegraphed. You know exactly what Darius is gonna due when he walks up to you. As long as you don't try to fight him he can't really stop you from farming. Yasuo and Renekton can easily stop GP from farming though and unlike GP they don't have mana problems, so they can push and farm with impunity and neither or them are easy to gank.

GP is about outscaling. He loses a lot of matchups early but his global map presence and lategame make up for it by far.
