Urgot Rework Archetype Idea- Damage Drain Tank

Currently, Urgot is, without a doubt, in a sad state. He by all means is bad. However, he has these two things that separate him from the rest of the game:

  1. % Damage Reduction Debuff His Passive is a really boring, yet unique little thing that allows Urgot to reduce the damage a target deals by 15% for 2.5 seconds. It's really boring, yet the most unique thing in his kit.
  2. % Damage Reduction Buff I know this is on some other characters, but Urgot is one of the few characters to have huge % damage reduction in his kit. It's on his ultimate, for those that didn't know. It's a huge 30-50% global damage reduction after use.

So, my idea for an Urgot rework is to make him into a Damage Drain Tank? What do I mean? I mean that he leeches damage from his enemy. Urgot is this cyborg, undead abomination that is in constant misery. My idea is that he wants to drain the power from his enemies to lessen the pain in more than one way. Make his Passive something that maybe makes his target deal % less damage and him deal % more damage. Maybe give him a heal as well instead of a shield to further the identity of him sucking the power from his enemies. Instead of trying to push Urgot into an Artillery Marksman direction, which is kind of a boring direction really, we should push him more towards his Durable side. Make him a super aggressive Tank that steals his opponents damage. The first Tank that might require focusing since you're potential for killing is reduced as long as he is alive. A Tank that actually FORCES the enemy to focus them without a Taunt.

While certainly that could be a unique niche for some champion in League, that simply doesn't fit with what's expected of Urgot. If you play Urgot you play him because you like EWQQQQ, as cancer as it is in its current state. He really is just a pure Battle Mage, just one that does physical damage. That's not something that could really be changed at all in a rework.

Why couldn't it be changed? Let's be honest, I could say the same for past reworked champions. If you liked pre-rework Sion, you liked him for the WQW burst combo as AP Sion. If you played Poppy before the rework, you liked her R and Passive that made her late game stupid. If you played Taric before the rework, you either liked the point and click stun or massive armor aura. Yorick? The brain dead lane sustain he had. Basically, you can say you like a champion for something they had pre-rework, but they are reworked away from that for a reason because, as you said, it's cancer.

The difference between Urgot and Sion or Poppy is that Urgot's identity as a tanky physical damage mage is incredibly fitting to both his character and theme, and although EQQQQ is cancer in ito current state, it's not something that's cancer by default.

Riot has made some pretty massive changes to kits in their VGUs thus far, so I wouldn't put anything outside the realm of possibility.

Making Urgot more or less a ranged tank that nerfs enemy damage to protect his team could be pretty neat.

Though I'm really hoping he loses the position swap Ult. I think that sort of effect could be used much better on someone else.

I personally hate his ult, Channelling Swap location, RYZE already does this better. If i would change anything, i would change his ult,

Agreed, even my idea of Urgot right here wouldn't really fit with his current ultimate since an Artillery Tank (I think I'll be calling him that for a loose classification) wouldn't want to fly into their enemy team in my mind.

You mention Urgot's direction as an Artillery Marksman and say you want to push him to be more durable. Let me throw this by you: what if he's the anti-marksman marksman? Like, what if we made him tanky and durable but especially against projectiles? Like tanks IRL, he just steamrolls forward, blasting anything in his way. I like the phrase Artillery Juggernaut.

Artillery Tank in general sounds cool to me. I think he would be in a similar case with Cho'Gath and Fiddlesticks to where you might say he is a Tank, but the way he plays is different than every other Tank and if he is Artillery, you can't really call him a Juggernaut. He would be his own kind of thing. Also, I think Urgot becomes a Damage Drain Tank, he would innately be an Anti-Marksman Marksman.
