Thoughts On Wukong?

I used to love using Wukong whenever I couldn't use Shaco, but I'm just coming back to him after a few months. I've made one major observation.

It's unreal how low his damage is and how confused his design is. I'll explain why this is weird but I wanted others' opinions.

1. Do you still like Wukong these days? 2. Do you think his identity is at all confused? 3. What do you build?

His ultimate just has pitifully low damage. The scaling looks good on paper but what you have to remember is that he cannot AA during his ultimate. That means he misses out on a HUGE amount of damage.

In fact, his entire kit is AA reliant, and his ultimate STOPS HIM FROM AAING. His Q? An AA reset and AA range extender. His E? An AS boost and gapcloser to get into AA range. His W is utility/escape, and his ultimate,....Stops you from AAing. Does not seem to make much sense to me.

To top it off, the base damage is 20 per tick. That must be a joke, right?,...It is over 5 times stronger at rank 2 alone. I'm not saying he's underpowered, but my point is that he just feels odd. Maybe it's my build path? This is, of course, all my opinion. And, I want yours!

his kit is just really solid, he can get things done whether it be chase, escape, initiate, follow up, or just apply stacks of cleaver/ Q. he just has lots of versatility.

put it this way, your E, Q, auto once or twice, and then w to get out unscathed, thats awesome.

his laning can be rough with other longer ranged opponents who harass him, and against most other melees the lane is going to be a brawl constantly, but overall i like him as is.

Oh I'm not advocating changes, I haven't played with him enough in the recent past. He just feels weird now that his damage feels gimped, at least early on. I know his combos and tricks, I used to be pretty good at him. It just seems odd to me now that his ultimate sacrifices autoattacking for a really low pay-off unless it's a pretty big teamfight.

He feels like less of an assassin and more of a bruiser/tank right now.

I used to main him back when I first started, but unfortunately he's just subpar to other laners of the same "type" such as Darius, Renekton, etc.

He still does decently in the jungle... Ganks like Shaco, but doesn't fall off as hard late game, but once again in the current meta there are junglers who just do it better (Lee Sin, Yi, Shyv, etc.)

His ganks are not at all Shaco tier. Shaco's damage is disgusting when played properly. he has certain fall-off points but outside those he can consistently 100:20 people, and late game, virtually one-shot someone.

The major caveat is that Wukong has AoE CC and AoE damage in exchange for less single target damage. I'm just having a rough time justifying him over Malphite/Amumu if my goal is an AoE initiate with damage.

He has stronger non-ult ganks than either of those.

No. He doesn't. Shaco's ganks are some of the best in the game early game, ESPECIALLY pre-6. Wukong has a lot of strengths going for him, but matching Shaco's early pressure is not one of them.

I was responding to the second paragraph about Amumu and Malphite. Sorry I wasn't clear.

Oh. Eeehh, yeah pure potential wise he does but his ganks pre-6 still aren't that great, neither is his sustain which leads me to believe he won't be ganking that much pre-6 and if he is, being counterganked would be the stuff of nightmares.

My main point was that he needs 6 for potent ganks and they're really not that potent. He needs 11 for his ultimate to be a threat on its own. Emphasis on its own. Its utility is great, but it's just not as good of a level 6 power spike as, say, Diana hitting 6.

That is, of course, my opinion.

You gank after first back, not after clearing when at low health. And yes his pre-6 ganks are quite strong. He can lane gank with his invisibility from the bushes very well, and his damage is quite high early game relative to Malphite and Amumu.

Don't play him vs people with many stuns or disengage - Tristana's ult just ruins his day...

Yes, I do very much enjoy Wukong, but I haven't played him in so long it's kind of hard to tell right now. His identity is definitely not confused, but I'll admit, his kit doesn't fit very well with his lore. He needs more Wuju. I (used to) build a Ravenous Hydra, Black Cleaver, Merc treads, Last Whisper, Sunfire Cape, and a Randuins. (not in order)

I think you just feel like his kit is a bit clunky, which I'd agree. I typically max E>Q>W>R, so you could imagine I'd use the Q>E>AA>R combo, but that usually feels rather clunky, simply because you have to fit an auto-attack in there, and the E feels rather slow at the end - it kind of stops.

You said that his damage feels gimped at least early on. Have you tried using the Q>E>AA>W combo for early poke? Believe me, it does a lot of damage. If I'm matched against even a slightly tanky opponent, I can still get them to at least 5/8ths to 1/2 health with that combo.

I'm not laning Wukong. I'm jungling him. It's why I said I use him when I don't feel like Shaco would be a strong pick :P.

I mean, I just went 14/1/12 and got an S+ grade, and I can still firmly say he feels like he has low damage.

My basic all-in combo depends on the situation but is typically E>AA>Q>Hydra Active>Clone>(Depending on if I need to, I can kite and wait my CDs to lower them further)>AA> Ult for 1v1s and in teamfights I usually ult sooner to avoid being CCed.

He 2shots someone without stacked armor and hp with E+Q - how is this considered low? Maybe you want to 1shot them - get IE next time???

No, I just expect one combo from a pure damage dealer to kill or critically wound an enemy without having to be 8 kills ahead.

I literally started playing wukong this week ,as he is free, and I find it incredibly easy to just straight up win my lane the vast majority of my games, and subsequently snowball.

He's a pretty bad jungler atm because Warrior, his jungle item, is terrible right now. But as a toplaner, wukong is a God. His laning phase isn't that great, but he can get early kills if the opponent underestimates him. His lategame, however, is one of the best. An AOE knock up and moving as a spinning beyblade while melting their health only to stealth right before they can kill you and E AA Q any squishy that survives.

Trust me, Wukong is one of the best champs to climb the ladder atm. I used him to get Diamond V and I suck at this game mechanically.

How is warrior terrible? It offers pure stats. It may not be as stacky as cinder or devourer, but it offers flat, immediate power. Maybe just not as one item wondery as the others?
