What's the best way to handle someone who gives up?

How do YOU handle someone who gives up after a few unfortunate events in the early game, and gets all down on themselves and really starts playing badly?

Is there something you like to say to try to help? Something to help get their mind back in the game?

When a player gives up, they give up. Best thing to do is either ignore them and focus on yourself and report them if they AFK or Int./troll.

Sometimes motivating works. (Some not all)

start snowballing your lane super hard, so they see that there is some hope and they start playing to stall enemy's snowball as long as possible

I usually try to tell them its gonna be ok and point out the positive things that are happening. like "Look, our Kog'Maw is way up on CS" or "We'll be fine once our corki gets his trinity force completed, just hold on"

but yeah... some people just really, truly give up... and the only choice I have is to play the best I can.

Was just looking for additional ideas that might help, and none of this has been particularly helpful :\
