IMO blame flash for having such a forgiving range to kill players.
Flash R is probably indeed one of the gayest things in league for all champions. But it's a part of the game.
He's a giant, slow ass dinosaur. It wouldn't make much sense for him to get into close range late game and not be able to do much damage
Make it magic damage. Easy
Melee champions arent sufficient carries anyway
So cho gath invalidating melee carries is irelevant
