Maw/hexdrinker is a key item for assassin's
Yet the fact that that it gives magic resist while there is no ap counterpart is pretty broken.

wait no AP counterpart? What? Hourglass? joke?

Seeker's and Zhonya give armor and AP... They don't wanna bring more tanky AP items - this will break Amumu, Diana, Sejuani, Rumble and so on.
broken because there is no as + ad item? there are reasons certain items don't exist
Blade of the ruined king... And ruined king has lifesteal and deals % damage so it's much better.
Every ap item has a counterpart. But there are so many more ad items than their are ap. For instance static shiv and ludens echo
Statikk shiv and Luden's echo are not comparable. One gives AP and an active, one gives attack speed and an active. Every AP can build a Luden's, not every AD can build a Statikk.
AP has items AP vs AP and AP vs AD.
AD has AD vs AP but not AD vs AD.
AP has a scaling on hit, AD has a flat on hit.
AP has voidstaff which is superior to the new whispers.
AP has a better choice of boots for damage.
AP has an item that increases AP by a large percentage, AD does not.
AP has a health AP item that slows with stats far superior to its counterpart, Rylai's vs Frozen Mallet.
AP actually has support itemization. AD does not.

so much hypocrisy in one post
I'm not quite sure.
I'm not quite sure.
take a look at ad effects. ap items aren't bad,but ad got a lot of new effects.
For example,
has ad,rm,armor pen,a magic shield which scale with rm,giving attack speed, lifesteal.
: hp,ad,cdr, potential armor shred of 30% and move speed.
/
: got effects on them.
good thing we have
haha
AP has Abyssal Scepter, which is a team wide AOE MR reduction Liandries with health, AP, magic pen, and health shred. Zhonyas which is AP, armor, and about the best active in the game, one of which is not comparable to QSS. Both do very different things but one is a staple item and has more lifesaving potential.
Morello's which is CDR, AP, Mana regen, and Grevious Wounds.
Nashors which is AP, CDR, Attack speed, AND on hit.
Luden's which is far superior to Statikk Shiv as all AP benefit from it, not just some like Statikk.
The whispers have additional effects however their intended purpose of resistance shred was vastly nerfed which is why they are not used too often, as opposed to voidstaff which is staple to every build along with a large chunk of AP.
Athene's with extreme mana regen, MR, CDR, AP
Archangels and RoA which require stacking time but offer an amazing menagerie of tanky stats, active, and AP/Mana.
Along with all of the utility AP items that supports can build, which no AD can find equivalents for.
I'm not saying AP is better, but you have to keep in mind the roles AP fill vs AD. AD is supposed to have higher up front damage, it's more of an independent playstyle. AP is built into characters that tend to have their power a bit focused on utility, and their items reflect that.
