Riot, I don't understand how you made the same mistake twice with "mastery" type features.
It's like after Honor failed completely within only a week or two, you didn't learn from that experience at all. I do understand that Honor and Champion Mastery were supposed to appeal to people as a way to show you have practiced positively and place a 'badge' on a player, but at the same time, the systems are unappealing BECAUSE they don't try hard enough.
The Honor system was a massive flaw in itself, created as a way to reward players for being good, yet you pretty much give rewards that nearly no player could care about after everyone in the world has the same reward, as well as the flaw that the reward is easily lost when people stop caring.
Now we have Champion Mastery, where if you just play the champion for a few days, you'll achieve Level 5 Mastery with them. Who cares if you actually play the character or not, they'll know you leveled up towards level 5 and you totally mastered the character. Every character. Because there's virtually zero penalty for doing badly with them, you'll get level 5 regardless.
Very pointless to have reward systems where everyone gets the same reward, no matter how positive or negative you are (Honor), or how well you actually play every champion in the game (Champion Mastery). Everyone gets the reward anyway. I mean, I'm probably the worst Ekko in the world, but since he's the first champion I have on my Champion Mastery page, I must be pretty dang good at him!
Can we call it "Champion Leveling" instead?
