PSA: Garens armor shredding made lethality more effective on him

High MMR Garen players already went with lethality/crit before the change, often skipping Black Cleaver entirely.

before the most recent change, it really was situational. a squishy enemy team meant lethality was better. a very armor heavy enemy team meant cleaver was more useful. after the armor shred buff, that lethality after the 25% is almost the same, if not more than a cleaver would add in most situations.
giving garen extra % armor shred to increase his team synergy might have been the idea. but while it definitely was a buff, in the end it had the opposite effect, lol.
skipping cleaver for ghostblade means hes shredding less armor for his team and gaining more penetration for himself, to dispose of carries and assassins.
Ive seen friends have fantastic luck with this build. Occasionally they would replace maw or deadmans (or both) with lethality items depending on how squish the enemy team was.

i usually like to lead with
and some health in lane. later on building into
and/or
in place of steraks definitely became a good choice on him since they added the cdr.
Depends. If im facing a maokai in lane, odds are hes building armor and that makes flat penetration useless as compared to % armor pen. But if its a squishy lane like riven or quinn where the enemy wont build armor then I can see lethality being better some times.

the flat penetration will never be useless. you want to hunt down assassins and carries by midgame anyways.
after trying a bit, I feel the best thing to do is phage -> ghost blade.
atleast for my skill level, because building full squishy from the start means I cant afford to make mistakes.
get

like, really. cleaver is not a good item on him anymore.
before the recent buff, the stat combination and passive together still made the item good enough that he wanted it like for his third item or so. because at some point hed need armor pen. and when you wanted to pick up armor pen, there was no reason to chose other items over cleaver, due to the team utility, total shred and stats.
now that about half the item (which is the shred) is irrelevant, since has it just inbuilt, and he can get movement speed and ad + cdr from other items, its really not worth anymore.
is better when it comes to killing squishies in 100% of the cases.
I was able to 1v1 the enemy shyvana with a
combo. it's a great item on garen.
If you are ahead, build
If you are feeding, build
Then you can decide on adding
or
.
It synergizes naturally with all the times you are in a bush
