Why do people troll if you don't pick what they want?

IP Masquerena··4 votes·3,208 views

Forenote: this is a small rant, enjoy the read, I won't flame, and you can leave opinions if you want.

SO recently I had a bunch of players that would decide to either troll in champ select if I chose to play something they didn't agree with (Morgana mid or Taliyah jg) forcing others to dodge, or just call me troll and dodge themselves.

But today and yesterday, I got the cherry on the cake when it comes to trolling me because I didn't "pick a real jungler."

Yesterday a Jax from top farmed all my top side jungle at the first clear, as I started bot side for the blue buff, and when asked why he took it all, his reply was "trolls don't need farm, you're lucky I didn't took Smite or you wouldn't be trollimg". Obviously we lost that and Jax kept asking the enemy team to report me for trolling.

Today it was another one similar: Before ban phase I select Taliyah Poppy: "jungler, do you plan on playing that?" Me: "Yea" Poppy: " you sure you don't want top?" Me: "I'm sure" Poppy: "I have a bad feeling about this" game starts, I start bot side, Poppy gets ganked by a level 2 cheese by Jax Poppy: "Report jungle, troll" *I ignore it, just farm as there's nowhere o can gank at that moment, Fizz then calls for a gank mid on Kat. He's full, but both me and her are half up, yet I tried, I died 1v1" Me: "Fizz?" Fizz: "I don't help trolls"

Game goes like that a few more times with both of them calling me troll and refusing to help. Fizz started calling me a kser, as my first kill for that game was on Kat, after his failed all in, he was at his mid tower, she was at her jungle entrance.

Poppy started crying that she is camped while I do nothing but farm, while Jax had a score of 1-2-1 and I had a 2-4-3 thanks to Fizz's help.

Like, what happened with the players recently? You don't pick what they think is a must and suddenly you're a troll, yet they troll and gimp the team?

Opinions on the matter are welcomed.

It's simple:

Humans are selfish creatures.

If they don't get what they want, they'll just make the everyone around them's existence as miserable as possible.

Why do people troll if you don't pick what they want?

Because they're entitled babies who can't accept that other people have free will. Only they are allowed to have free will - at least in their opinion.

Wonder how long till one of those guys will ban her just so I can't pick her in the jungle

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Just do what I do, don't hover the exact champ you want to play. Instead hover something similar so your team knows how your choice will affect the team composition, and then if someone bans it to spite you then you're still free to pick what you actually wanted to play.

So for Taliyah jungle, you might hover Zyra, Ryze or Karma.

IP Masquerena1 votes

Oh boy, seeing silvers and bronzies react to a Zyra jungle call. Some people would pay to see that.

(I got demoted from s2 all the way to s5 due to multiple reasons, as I'm not good enough to solo carry the lot I've got recently)

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Or you can simply wait and not hover anything. No harm can be done if they don't know what you're going to do.

IP Masquerena1 votes

Note, i am not saying that only my team is the reason why I dropped. I raised from bronze to s2, and yes it sucks to drop like that, I realise I'm not good enough yet to make it on my own with such team mates.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Oh I never even thought about any of that. I wasn't judging you, don't sweat it.

IP Masquerena1 votes

Just out of curiosity, to see what they say when they ban her, I kept showing I want to play her, and a dude did ban her today:

"You are not Nightblue to think you can play her, go play a normal champ"

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Why expose yourself to that? There's literally no reason you should even take that risk. People are stupid, that's just the way of the world. You knew people would react badly, just wait to show it until they can't ban it away from you anymore.

IP Masquerena1 votes

I dodged, and as I said, it was out of curiosity.

Now I mask her with Evelynn, as she's a safe pick for me if someone does ban Taliyah.

HalcyonDweller1 votes

Good for you then!

I just find it funny that you can't play off meta (low elo off meta) because you aren't a super popular YouTube content creator.

"Off meta" have low winrate in low elo mostly because the team will sabotage you or refuse to help rather that the pick itself. But that's just my luck so far.

I keep going with it because I know I'll be able to carry them at one point. I just wish I could practice in normals even when not qued with my diamond friends...

Your First mistake was reading champ select.

Second Mistake was not using /mute all.

Both of those are the example of the poppy game not the jax.

Your own teammates are your biggest tilters and what i have found is the ones who feed the most/ are one of the worst teammates are the ones who are quick to question your choices.

Bottom line is if they are trolling you/flaming you they would of lost you the game regardless of what you picked. I mean Taliyah is a meta JG pick right now and poppy died to a lvl2 gank. The only jg that could of saved her would of been one who started red anyways.

IP Masquerena1 votes

I don't do a /mute all because I'm not good enough to solo carry, so I keep it open and mute singles, as if I find someone smart enough to help me carry, I want to know.

Also I did manage to cool out some players and win the game of off telling them to stay calm or what to buy when an Executioner's was needed, so....

if someone demands you to play a champion and doesn't know you, do not play with them. They dont even know how you play or if you can play the champ but they are just saying "pick this champ" because they either watched someone do well with it or at one point they did well with it. Just dodge if this happens in ranked. Not worth it.

IP Masquerena1 votes

We need more than 1-2 dodges per day if that would be the case in lower elos, at least, that's my luck.

Every 2-3 games I get someone telling what to play or what not to play.

"Don't play Akali into Zoe" Meanwhile he plays Nasus jungle and we lose because the enemy WW did whatever he wanted "Evelynn is not a good jungler, pick a meta jungler" he himself then states about himself "I know Blitz is also a bad support, and I should've played a meta one, but I didn't want to" had that guy today in ranked

So I stopped caring about them, today it just got a bit too much to me, afterall, they not only just decided to flame me but play their game, but refuse to help me or even join team fights if I'm there, or in the case of the Jax, completely ruin my whole game because "I didn't pick what he wanted me to play", even tho I told him that I can't play tanks because I don't have tanks.

Yea, I got Sej and Maokai, but the only time I play those 2 is when I need their chest at the beggining of a season, or he wanted a Leona jungle? tho I didn't tell him about those 3, I just told him that I can't play tanks as I have no tanks

I just don't enjoy the tank game play, it doesn't fit my playstyle.

There is no meta but okay. Didnt realize picking blitz was bad lol. Now if you picked blitz into braum taric leo thresh you will lose your adc the game because free engage off the grab

IP Masquerena1 votes

That's what he said himself about Blitz.

As far as I care, play AP Yasuo support. As long as we can win with it, I'm fine

KlydeFrog1 votes

I dont put up with that any sort of pick this champ nope doesnt fly with me and like wise i dont care who people pick

Are these ranked games you are talking about? Are you experienced with Taliyah? Have you practiced Taliyah in the jungle in normal games first?

Personally I am fine with people playing whatever they want to play and while I am aware that Taliyah has recently become a viable jungle choice I know not everyone may be aware of that. So if I was playing her I would make sure I was competent in the roll before I risked the wrath of my teammates in a ranked game. But that's just me.

IP Masquerena1 votes
  • Ranked games? Yes
  • Experienced with Taliyah? I did practice her for quite a bit on mid, but just didn't felt right for me on mid lane, tho I did like her.
  • Practice her in the jungle in normal games? Yea, did that, and she feels so much more fun there for me than mid

Some people consider her a troll pick not because they haven't herd of her being a good jungle, but because (especially in low elo), they consider only Graves, Yi, Xin, Assassins and Tanks to be junglers, and everyone else, including Twitch, Kindred, and co, to be "invaders", as they are ruining the "role's identity".

The good news is that while you get those people occasionally, you won't have them in every game. They will have themselves in every game.

My strategy for dealing with it depends on whether I am "hard climbing" or not. If not, I just mute and ignore, and interact with lanes that are not flaming, makes for a more pleasant experience (and probably annoys the trolls extra, but that's not the main point). Don't expect help from them when you get invaded, but it's a good practice for when laner is unable to help.

If hard climbing (which I don't do often, I do it when for whatever reason I want to rank fast), be positive, tell them it works well for you (if you have match history to back it up), if they still troll it's on them, but 2 out of 3 times trolls can be talked out of it if you try. Whether it's worth trying depends on you, it's their problem, not yours.

As for someone banning champ you hovered, I use that to good effect -- I usually have a champion or two that are ready or almost ready for ranked, but first or second time I take champion to ranked I don't do as well (takes time to get used to ranked opponents, my normal MMR is much lower than ranked). So I feel a little bad playing for 1st time in ranked. However if team actually bans my hover, that's a win/win for me. I pick champion I want to learn, I don't feel bad at all if I'm weaker, and I don't have to play it for the first time with a non-troll team. Just my take on this.

IP Masquerena1 votes

My unranked mmr is somewhat higher than my ranked one, don't know why, so I usually end up against high plat/diamonds, and sadly, that doesn't give me too good of a practice, as unless the enemy players are actually kind to explain me why I fucked up, or how they did beat me so hard (Hint: many were calling me "bronze" and how I don't deserve to climb at how bad I am, but I did also meet a few decent ones either), I won't be able to understand the how's and why's because I am not that good yet.

The only reason I moved to jungle was that after I failed some promos for the 3rd time, because of the lack of a competent jungler, then dropped all the way back to silver 4, I was like "if I can't have a good jungler, I'll be the jungler I want my team to have"

I do have my main pick, I just don't want to rely only on her, hence why drop rate tanking a bit. Being an OTP can hurt sometimes :p

As a jungle main I'd say only main jungle if you enjoy it more (or at least as much) as laning. While having a bad jungler can hurt the team, so can having a bad midlaner or ADC or any position. If you are good at any one role, you can use it to climb to approximately your "true rank" (it gets harder after). For ADCs, for example, mechanics is much more important, while map awreness/objective calls/team strategy is less so as long as you get basics right. Midlaners have yet different emphasis. Pick what you want to do and do it well, don't go to role X just because you need to win, any role can, approximately equally well (it differs more by specific champion). If you enjoy jungling more than other roles, of course main it, it is awesome!

IP Masquerena1 votes

My main role is mid, but I enjoy jungle because of the champions I enjoy playing. I only play roles where I have champs I enjoy. So if I get say autofill support, I have my confort picks, but you won't see me support without them.

Mid/jg are the roles I enjoy the most because that where the biggest pool of champs I enjoy playing fits, and now that Taliyah is a good jungler, even better :p

I know any role can climb, I only play "meta" when the champs I enjoy playing become meta, otherwise, I play for fun. I just want to reach gold for the free stuff, but even it it's not a "too high of a goal", I want to get there with the champs I have fun, not just abuse something op and call it a day.

I know different roles require different things to win.

Typically tilted players. Jungle has always been the easy-target for flaming. That's how it is. Embrace it or don't jungle at all. /muteall is the way.
