Deactivation? That's new...

Really stupid message. So you frequently communicate w/ your team and trade lanes to avoid bad match-ups, so you are punished for it?

Should just go into hyperdrive for negative-splashing if you lose despite you switching to your favored role.

they punish you for swapping lanes because you could be a gold tier top lane but you are also a diamond mid, so you get put into a game with gold players then swap roles with your mid which is basically abusing the system, what i think should be the only case that this shouldnt happen is if the role you are swapping with is within 3 tiers of the one you got assigned or somewhere arounf there

Sorry if it read like I was calling you out, that wasn't my intention.

Was just trying to say that it's been in the game for a bit before going into my complaint about the message/system behind it.

If you queued for support play support. Otherwise, why bother?

example: You pick Lulu, your top picks Wu, the enemy picks Darius. Wu, after level 2, takes a lot of skill to even just cs against Darius.

You could consign your top laner to a miserable 15 minutes, or you could take top for him as Wu switches with another player.

They do not punish you.

If you trade enough, all of your positional ranks will get brought to the same rank.

Basically your best role will come down a little, and the rest will move towards that. It's basically opting out of positional matchmaking.

The reason for this is that positional matchmaking is abuse-able otherwise. Let's say I'm a Plat 2 mid laner, Plat 3 top, and Gold 2 Jungle, Gold 4 ADC/Supp. meanwhile my friend (or random I got put into game with) is a Plat 2 ADC, Plat 3 support, Gold 2 jungle, and Gold 4 mid/top.

If he's put in mid/top and I'm put in adc/supp we're in a gold 4 game. However if we swap roles we'll be mid-Plat in the roles we swap to, and just have a super easy game AND gain LP in those main roles.

So if I do that too often, all my ranks will just coverge to Plat 3. I lose a little off my main rank (plat 3 instead of plat 2 mid) but my other ranks all come way up, so I can't get into easier matches by queuing for other roles.

The whole idea of positional ranked is that you should be the right skill level for your game without switching roles. So while occasionally switching is fine (say, strategically, because you got counter picked but can flex into another lane), doing it regularly can deactivate positional ranked.

That all makes sense, but do they not consider the fact that they auto-fill people into roles that they don't play?

DrCyanide1 votes

They did consider that - it's the entire reason that they made role based ranks. Doesn't matter if you can't play it well, you can play it and be fine overall.

Unless you can't, which is definitely the case for a lot of people. Isn't that why trading exists in the first place?

You can, you just do badly. There's no one who reached Level 30 who doesn't have some idea of what each role needs to do and can go through the rough actions.

Trading in game focuses on trading champions, not roles. Role select is 3 years old now, there's been no move to officially support trading roles.

I come across people on the regular who claim to have never played a role before, and I mostly play Ranked. Remember, to reach level 30 you do not have to do anything other than get experience in normals. That doesn't require you to know a thing about the game except how to hit things lol

DrCyanide1 votes

And knowing how to hit things is enough to play any role. As long as your eyes were open while you were playing Normals, you still have a general idea of how each role plays, even if you don't know the ins and outs.

Hmm, I guess that's good enough for some people. Still, this isn't something Riot should in any way be ignorant of. People have been trading roles for years now.

its stupid af, i played one game as support when my adc was afk since 1 lvl, he came back at 5min so i was farming minions for 5 mins and at the end of the game in client i was as adc not support

Tahminatrix 1 votes

You need to report that ASAP.

ModWulf Helhammer3 votes

This has already been a thing, and they said so.

What it means is that if you are consistently trading positions, it keeps tightening the difference between your main and off-role MMR, until they are the same

Wait so if you trade enough will you be banned from ranked or does ranked just become like it was before? and why is trading a problem its a team game if you trade you work with your team like Idk not see a problem with trading.

I'm assuming it just means Ranked goes back to normal.
