Yasuo is not really unbalanced/OP, I am just tired of playing against Yasuo.

YumaS2Astral··66 votes·5,139 views

Or playing with him on my team. I don't play Yasuo myself because I find him to be really boring, despite what the majority of people think.

With that said, I got tired of people picking him at all times, on every situation, against any champion. I don't know if that is common on NA, but on my server, people just pick him without caring about many important things, for example: if the team needs a tank, or if the team needs an AP champion, or if the team already has a squishy melee carry. And more important, if the team actually has knockups to make Yasuo work during late game.

But no, people just pick him on any situation, without really caring about what will happen. Yesterday, I was playing Cho'Gath on a normal draft, and the enemy picked Yasuo against me. I mean... What the hell? Cho'Gath is a strong counter to Yasuo. In fact, I stomped him on lane. Why would him pick Yasuo? Just for the sake of playing this champion?

The lane wasn't fun, because it is still a Yasuo, but I still managed to win my lane nonetheless. I am not saying that Yasuo is OP or anything. In fact, he is surprisingly easy to counter and unless there is more than one knockup on the enemy team besides Yasuo himself he will fall off late game because he is very dependent on the team composition.

But he is still a very unfun champion to play against, due to his opressive laning phase (contrary to the popular belief, Yasuo's early game is NOT weak, especially since it's on the lane phase where he can take the most advantage of his mobility with nearby enemy minions), ability to scale super well and snowball easily, being resourceless, and having a wind wall that is capable of blocking even ultimates.

And worse yet, people don't know the appropriate moment to pick him. They just pick him without caring about the circunstances. Once I was in a ranked game, and despite the rest of my team trying to convince one of my allies to pick a tank, he didn't care about what we were saying. He just picked Yasuo, and against a Maokai. He surprisingly won the lane - but unfortunately, he was completely useless during the mid/late game because he was squishy and was lacking in utility. Also, our team didn't had the needed knockups to make him work. We lost because we didn't had a proper tank that could start teamfights.

This happens to me every time. I am so tired of playing with a Yasuo on the game, that I started to dodge on normal draft games, whenever there is a Yasuo on either team. On ranked games, I don't do this for obvious reasons. So I just counterpick him with a champion that can stomp him during the lane phase, such as Cho'Gath and Fizz. Or if Yasuo is on my team, I pick champions with knockups, because I know that nobody else will do that.

What needs to be done with Yasuo to make him less of a feast and famine champion that is unfun to play against and more of a healthy champion that can work and still scale well and be really fun both to play as and against?

People pick him because he's fun

Honestly my Ranked winrate with Yasuo is probably less than 40% but he's still my go-to champ for top or mid because he's entertaining

People pick retarded shyt all the time, e.g Lee Sin is picked like every other game when he's literally almost always a terrible pick. In the end even Ranked is a game, you play it for fun and you can't blame players for picking what they like.

"because he's fun" is a matter of opinion. I don't find him fun. What's fun on being a situation where you either completely stomp your opponent and not let him have any chance of retaliating, or being stomped because the opponent is a hard counter? I like lanes where it's a skill based matchup, in which both sides have equal chances of winning.

Also, at rankeds, victory is a priority over fun. So if you have 40% winrate with him, you are better off switching to other champions which you have higher winrate with. This does not apply to normal games.

Everyone has different opinions but I'd wager a good chunk of players also find Yasuo fun hence his popularity over actual solo queue stomper champs

And I'm not sure where you get the impression that Yasuo's matchups aren't skill based... Every champ has counters, Yasuo's not even above average when it comes to hard counters/been countered

generally popular champions are always strong in the current meta... I'm awfully sick of yasuo because he either invalidates you as a skillshot based champion or just makes landing anything a living hell, while he doesn't have to land anything. it wouldn't be so bad if his build didnt practicly hardcap his MS while giving him tons of burst. item 3078 item 3087item 3006

The meta doesn't imply strongest, its just the most widely applied strategy

Heimerdinger is the definition of a solo queue god because he applies insane amounts of pressure and is almost unbeatable in lane and virtually ungankable by the jungler, yet almost nobody plays him because he's mind-numbingly boring and he's also never picked in Worlds, so he'll probably never be meta.

UPfreely1 votes

strong not strong_est_ I guess a better word would have been 'successful' But champions are picked because they are viable.

Look at champions like sion, he's incredible fun, but he's not picked anymore. Why? Because he's not good in this meta.

The heimerdinger comment you made is just silly, you need to respect what his kit can do and play accordingly just like other champions.

Heimerdinger is surprisingly easy to beat in lane. Just pick someone who can outrange him or use his turrets as fodder, such as Syndra, Malzahar, Orianna, Ziggs, or Xerath. They completely invalidate Heimerdinger in a lane, Malzahar and Syndra especially. Unfortunately nobody in low elo understand that.

YossarianSensei1 votes

Not really sure what you consider 'beating in lane' but as far as I'm concerned it's virtually impossible to beat any competent Heimer in solo queue, even in plat/diamond. He's like Trynd, you might beat his team but killing Heimer does nothing because the game's gunna be a 4v4 the entire time unless your team doesn't value their turrets enough to have someone in Heimer's lane 24/7.

Not only is he often played AFK-Top where his hardest 'counters' can't go, his manaless infinite push will out-shove basically anyone. Usually pushing is a bad thing because you get ganked, but heimer is hard AF to gank which means he just applies way more pressure than any single champ should.

Then the solution is obvious of course - disable ranked play. After all, if ranked is not fun there's literally no reason for it to exist in a game.

Ranked can be fun if you like to play it. It is just that the victory is a priority over fun.

Ranked is like a job; you can have fun with your job, but the priority is doing the job, not to have fun.

And that's why you should only get a job that you can have fun with.

If victory has taken priority over fun, than the game has failed to function as a game.

If you aren't having fun playing ranked because of people playing ranked while having fun playing champions they find fun in ranked you shouldn't play ranked.

The problem is that ranked is a game mode that unlike other game modes from LoL, is more focused on victory due to its competitive nature, you can have fun on ranked, but if having fun is using a champion that you like but you aren't good with that champion (for example) then you are better off using a champion that will give to you the best chance of winning.

For example, I find solo lane Khazix to be extremely fun, but I rarely use him at ranked outside of jungle or when not being a counterpick in laning because when used as a blindpick in lane he will not give me the best chance of winning.

A good yasuo will know how to turn a losing situation into a winning one. I dont play ranked, but I'm pretty sure yas would be my main. That being said, I would only pick him if the team has a hard aoe knockup such as malph or wukong. That way, if i get behind, ill always be relevant in team fights. Yasuo is only feast or famine if you just pick him into whatever with whatever. To be honest, he's my favorite champ in game, so I'm biased. Ive just played a lot of him and he's really not feast or famine if you know what you're doing with him.

How is any of that the champions fault? "We need this on our team or we need that, but they pick yasuo. so its the champions fault." That falls on the player good sir. Plus let people pick what they want to pick, you dont dictate anybody else's pick more than they dictate yours.

Kitten of Evil4 votes

YES. Nothing is worse than being 5th pick, forced to do a role you hate, and then people ALSO telling you "NO we need a tank" or "we need AD!" I get it's a team game but it seems really dumb that 3 or 4 teammates get to play exactly what and who they want, and the last player gets to be told who to play.

The Sword Saint10 votes

It's not that they can tell you what to play - its that if you don't make an effort to fill in the team composition's weak points then you don't have the right to bitch later when you lose the game BECAUSE you decided to exercise your right to make a selfish personal pick instead of something that would benefit the team in the mid-late game.

Of course these situations usually happen when the first 3-4 guys all makes their own selfish picks, but that just means that it's even more up to the last picks to be the responsible ones if they care about winning.

Kitten of Evil2 votes

Right, I understand that, but surely you can understand my point of view as well. It very often comes across as "I got to ban and pick who I wanted, now you have to be a champion you aren't as comfortable with. Do it for the team otherwise we lose gg!"

The Sword Saint1 votes

Of course, and it is pretty obnoxious to be sure, but it does eventually come down to last picks to make that call. Do you care more about winning or about playing who you feel like playing? Sometimes you're gonna be a high pick and have more freedom to pick without personally dooming the team, sometimes you're gonna be a low pick and it will fall on your shoulders to try and make the team work.

But for sure, noone has the right to give you shit no matter what you pick. If they talk crap in game about it just mute them and report them after for harassment.

Kitten of Evil3 votes

Yeah, and I will generally try for a bit tankier of a character if we need that, or an AP character if we have all AD. I can understand OP's frustration is all. "I mid or feed" is no different than "you have to tank or feed"

Honestly, I actually prefer being third or fourth pick. I main immobile mage mids, and I just know if I get first pick Anivia or Vel'Koz or Lux, I'll see a Fizz or Zed on the other side.

BastionKross2 votes

My personal rule of thumb is that if I force a player into a role they don't want by exercising pick order, then I do not get to tell them what type of champion to play. I've already forced them to do a role they don't want, I'm not about to make it worse by making requests of them.

But if they get the role they want, then I feel free to remind them that "Hey, we're lacking AP damage wink wink nudge nudge".

Kitten of Evil3 votes

I think that's reasonable. And polite communication does help. After all, if 5th pick doesn't want to go magic damage, maybe 4th pick is willing to.

Yes, but players should at least try to pick something reasonable. Do you think it's fun to have Velkoz support come in and steal all your kills and cs?

Kitten of Evil4 votes

If I am support and I say "Do you ADC want me to be Soraka? Bard? Braum? or Janna?" and I'm told "No, be Thresh" I say to you no. You do not tell me who I play, and I gave you four options with different strengths.

As a sidenote, Vel can work as support, but as a very pokey, harassing lane and not against someone who all-ins or makes picks. Still he should not CS.

leaguewut1 votes

It's not stealing kills if it set them up in the first place. Vel support basically says "you can win farm while they're not here, and I'll tax you a few kills in lane." The ADC still ends up with more gold and more kills by lategame, and hardly has to concede kills anyway.

BroLane1 votes

I won't end up with more gold though IF HE KEEPS STEALING CS LIKE A JERK (Which he did by the way.)

Yasuo instalockers have become something of growing epidemic lately. This has actually happened to me on multiple occasions in the last few weeks:

First pick: "Top" second pick: "Mid"

First locks in Fiora enemy team picks third pick locks in Yasuo before second pick chooses

"what the fuck dude, I said I'm going mid. how hard is it to understand pick order?"

"lol we pick at the same time"

FooDang1 votes

The only thing I dislike is Yasuo can keep fishing with his knockup until he can Ult. Outside of Champion abilities to save someone his Ult is guaranteed, The only thing he can miss is his knockup.

picking yasuo or zed against lulu or any utility mage in mid lane. You can be Vi ult'd into the yasuo ult and lulu will just eat it up. Lulu he can be incredibly easy to manipulate through. Manipulating the minnions in the wave or freezing lane putting you between him and his own minnions annie's the best example of this to a yasuo or just knowing that him dashing to you for his knock up is like a slow motion malphite ult that you can bait and flash repositioning yourself well able to land any close range ability ult what ever and he can't dash to you to get away and becomes totally out of position

leaguewut1 votes

Yasuo is partly so toxic to play versus because of his wall. I'm of the belief it should have a shield health against projectiles that scales with his crit and/or bonus AD so that it only truly becomes invulnerable lategame (though it should ignore the damage of the first hit, like Braum's shield).

Toxic Samurai1 votes

The issue most of the time is the random crit Yasuo sometimes gets in the early laning phase. HIs concept is fine. He has outplay potential and there's also a lot of options to outplay Yasuo as well if you're also playing a skill based champion. If you play champions that have easy mechanics like Vi, Warwick, Xin ZHao etc, there is a lot of options Yasuo can take to outplay you if circumstances are good enough. Yasuo is what i would call a healthy melee ad carry. His mobility is limited to creeps so predicting his movements is easier than most champions. His damage can be dodged or stopped short unlike championis like Akali, Kayle, etc. Most matchups with Yasuo are very skill based and depend on mechanics and decision making which makes games rather than the usual I picked this champ so therefore you automatically lose.

Yes, finally someone else recognizes it. Even my friend who enjoys playing Yasuo(not because he thinks he's OP, he just likes the champ) asks us not to shove mid if we win our lanes, because he wants to try and get ahead more while laning phase lasts.

Basically, if the team isn't centered around Yas(and even just a malphite counts as that) then he does tend to do better in early laning than in a teamfight

The Whamboozler1 votes

Because Weeaboos. Seriously, I'm convinced that 60% of the playerbase play nothing but Riven, Yasuo, and whatever champs are flavor of the month at the moment.

DarthSpectrum1 votes

Play Yasou yourself, and you will understand why people pick him.

Most players simply choose Yasuo because he is more enjoyable than whatever other options they have. Also, the popular belief IS that Yasuo's early game is oppressive.

Although in fact that is a misconception. His early game is only oppressive when a skill shot champion is fighting him. Try picking any bruiser or assassin against him and you can dominate easily in lane. All the mobility in the world can't prevent Yasuo from taking point and click burst damage.

magic pole1 votes

i agree, his lane is too strong for a "scaling " champ

free crit infinite dashes and immune to harass.

he either stomps his lane or gets stomped

TacoTheKitten1 votes

Actually I can stomp fizz with yas (granted without proper reaction speed to block fizz ulti, you're fucked, so it's basically a skill matchup)
