There comes a point where you need to be toxic in a ranked game*

TLDR: Sometimes being nice and saying "oh its ok we cant win them all" or just generally being nice and not pointing out mistakes is not enough to get somebody to learn how to play the game correctly, and the only way theyll learn is if you CONSTANTLY tell them what they are doing wrong until they fix it.

So I just played a game with an ashe ADC blitz support xin jg xerath mid and me as sion top

the game was going fine we were winning ashe and xer and xin were getting fed

we were up against a jax jg mao top trist and ali bot lane and azir mid

Now all game we are doing fine and winning, win most of the fights lose one or two

then I notice something of why we lost the fights we did early on

ali and mao (who built tank and had zero damage) would go in first and xin/xer/ashe/blitz would all blow everything on them then jax would come in and clean up

I told them about it nicely at first like "hey just walk past ali/mao they do nothing walk past them and focus jax trist then azir

blitz Listened and agreed and him an I would always walk past mao and ali to focus jax only to realize ashe xin and xer did the same mistake so we camly told them "hey remember to NOT FOCUS ali or mao" in a more stern way

however after while they are still doing the same thing so jax gets a quad kill

by this time they had made the same mistake twenty times so I tell them "HEY STOP FOCUSING ALI AND MAO" this finally gets xins attention and he wises up. however by that time it was too late and ashe and xer for the 25th or so time focus ali and and mao again and still didnt get the idea that blitz and I had been saying for the past 10 minutes to walk past them and we got aced and lost at this point I was mad and there were choice words said in post lobby, whatever Im fucking pissed at them because they couldn't listen to their teammates everyone gets mad however in game the worst it got to was "STOP FUCKING FOCUSING ALI AND MAO FUCKING WALK AROUND THEM" but that only happened once and after it was too late I can only think what if I had told them "STOP fucking focusing ali mao and stop playing like fucking retards and walk around them!" would they have listened earlier.

Riot wants a game thats free of people being rude or mean but in ranked you play the game to win, and in ranked you want your team to do well. However I dont think they get how people will learn or how to instill something into somebodys head that its wrong or not ok to do. When players do badly in ranked and a team member tells them whats wrong in a toxic way or not, the community (thanks to riot saying so) has deemed that telling somebody they made a mistake and pointing it out is toxic and that player can report the other player and get them punished. Riot is rewarding players who do badly by saying "hey its ok you can do bad all you want and nobody can tell you how to play" and it normals thats fine and dandy, but in competitive Queues that IS NOT ACCEPTABLE Now Im not saying its ok for somebody to blow a fuse right away after one mistake but if a teammate keeps repeating the same mistake and the nice way hasnt worked the only way left is to scream in their face and make them shit their pants so they wont ever do it again. The military uses it to train soldiers this way, Police officers use it to train officers this way

and in the real world if you fuck up Your boss threatens to fire you leaving you out of a job

so why are we telling people in ranked its ok to do bad (because there is no punishment for doing bad besides dropping rank) and yet we are at the same time telling people the occasional "stop fucking doing this" after they already tried nicely is not ok?

RIOT wont give us sandbox mode or a decent tutorial or have a way for people to learn mechanics such as" dont focus the support" so its up to the players to teach each other but now riot is saying that its toxic and shouldnt be allowed

The only loophole around it is coaching via voice chat AND TRUST ME Ive had a friend/coach before and I have been on a team that will criticize you over voice chat they do not just simply say "oh its ok" when you make a mistake in ranked.

i stopped reading after the first paragraph.

Your mistake is you actually care about these solo Q mindless teammates you get paired up with. no matter what you type. no matter how logical your logical is on the logical scale. It will make them play worse. they will not improve magically after you say your logical logic.

Improvement is a mindset. you cannot give someone this mindset whilst in-game. it is something they must learn for themselves.

the 4 teammates you get matched up with DO NOT MATTER AT ALL i'm not trying to be rude, they're people too. but you're there to improve your skills not theirs.

When you queue up, why are you wasting your time trying to make THEM play better. who the eff cares about their skill level. once the game ends. you will 99.9% chance, never see them again.

When you queue up for solo Queue, you are there to improve YOURSELF. stop typing. don't be toxic. don't be an nice guy. don't be an okay guy.

Just be. Make some calls. if they listen, great, if not, ohwell. ping danger, if they listen great!, if not, ohwell. the important thing is you pinged.

when you queue up for a ranked game, you are at your current skill level. this cannot change during the match no matter how many suggestions people tell you or how many toxic people yelled at you to stop feeding. in fact its gonna make the person play worse.

focus on yourself, not others. and soon you will climb to the skill level where people don't suck that horribly.

don't write a "TLDR" if you don't want people only reading that.

There's nothing toxic about telling your teammates to not focus the tanks. Calling them retards or some other pejorative while doing so is when it becomes toxic.

You get the idea, unlike the other mindless downvoters

I'm curious, how did you expect Ashe and Xerath to walk past Alistar and Maokai? Those two have a lot of instant CC to keep Ashe and Xerath back away from the fight.

The people that Alistar and Maokai let past were Sion, the tank that they could have chosen to peal for but wouldn't burst if he got caught, Blitzcrank, the tanky support that's not worth focusing, and Xin Zhao, who could dash past them anyway.

It all sounds like instead of playing around your carries, staying back and pealing/protecting them, you were so preoccupied with diving the back line that you tried to force them to do the same thing when they couldn't.

If you read the post : Mao did no damage and blew all his CC on us and alistar just walked around body blocking, It was VERY easy to walk right past them to focus their back line without mao or ali doing anything to help their team

There's a difference between being toxic and just pointing out mistakes that can be prevented in the future.

Toxicity, or behavior that is clearly against the rules that you agreed to follow when you played the game, is never okay. Not being an optimist is okay. Telling someone they made a mistake is okay. Telling someone they're repeating a mistake is okay. Telling someone about their mistake more times than they actually make the mistake can get annoying, especially if they acknowledge.

There is a difference between being a babying optimist who preaches about the power of friendship, being an average player who just points out mistakes and is there to win and stuff, and being an asshole. The key is differentiating the three and (hopefully) being the second player.

problem is: riot is promoting the idea that even telling a teammate what they did wrong is "toxic" thats why the title has the little "*" Im not saying its ok to be an asshole Im saying its ok to tell somebody when they are being a complete dumbass obviously 17 downvoters must be those special snowflakes that think they are pro level and think if I tell somebody they are fucking up im toxic

If it weren't for that, you might have had a good point. Don't ruin it when you're on a roll, dude.

This isn't the military, it is a game. Honestly you cannot yell at someone for them to get better, they do not know you. And they sure as hell did not sign up for your advice and training, like you do in the military. Being toxic is not ok.

Arcade Andrew1 votes

Im not in the military, those are examples the real world isnt "oh its ok youre a special snowflake that should never be yelled at"

Baunjo1 votes

No one comes and plays LOL so you can teach them stuff. There are ways to teach people the game without raging and bitching at them like i'm sure you do drill sergeant, besides you almost never have to play with the bad player ever again if you do not want to.

Politeness<Practicality IMO I think I'll let everybody pass on mistakes I don't really think its necessary to point out their mistakes and make them hate you though sometimes if they're constantly making the mistake I let them know in the most polite way I can.

ViashinoWizard1 votes

So, people play worse when they're angry or upset.

Being hostile to your teammates will literally make you less likely to win the game.

You can offer advice without being toxic. You just need to be nice about it.

I never actually read what you posted and based what I said entirely off the title. You were giving them HORRIBLE advice, and you guys lost because you tried to get them to do something they shouldn't have. When you play ADC, you are playing ADC, not a bruiser that needs to try and dive the back line. Because you left ashe and xerath to die at the hands of alistar, maokai, and jax, you lost the game for yourself.

The very purpose of playing ADC is to get off as much damage as you can to whoever is closest to you, keeping them alive is VERY important. Any person retarded enough to try and walk past the front line to the enemy back line as an ADC should get their ass destroyed. It's simply how the game works.

Xerath is very similar to an ADC. He doesn't have crazy burst like some other mid laners do, he provides lots of poke with Q and R and his W and E are really just disruption skills. All are meant to be used from a distance. When you let people overwhelm xerath, he kinda gets shit on.

First off, your team comp was really really bad. Xin zhao sion is a very good pick, because together they can engage the fight well and disrupt the team. Blitzcrank ashe is very good at catching out targets, and Xerath is excellent at sieging and zoning.

Now do you see where the mistake is?

The follow up to make Xin zhao Sion work is non existant. You should have let ashe/blitz catch people out and allow the 4v5 advantage to capitalize on blitzcrank and xerath's zoning power. Instead, you told your team to do something that ultimately got them completely shit on.

And to further my point, I must know. What was the other team's mid/ADC?
