I'm looking at the new Abyssal Scepter...

On the one hand, it's a cool idea. It has a pretty unique function--the closest parallel we have is Blitzcrank's R passive--and I like seeing it changed from flat shred to % shred.

On the other, it has a weird build path, and the % shred amount scales pretty high. Why is there AP, HP and MR all on the same slot? With those stats and the purpose of the item, why not have it build from Haunting Guise + Negatron Cloak? Or, for thematic reasons, why not remove the Amp. Tome and replace Ruby Crystal with Bami's Cinder?

I mean, the average DPS it grants is about on par with Sunfire, anyway: 20(+1.25 per level) DPS as opposed to 25(+1 per level) DPS.

The other thing that bothers me is the massive, 4-second window between pulses.

More frequent, weaker pulses would be nicer...

Interestingly enough I'm really not a fan of it. I'm going to post the current Abyssal Scepter stats followed by the new stats proposed just so other people can see it.

Current Abyssal Scepter: Blasting wand + Negatron Cape + 730 = 2440 70AP 50MR 20 flat Mr reduction within 700 units

Proposed Abyssal Scepter: Negatron Cape + Ruby Crystal + Amplifying Tome + 815g = 2500 30AP 60MR 250HP Every 4 seconds dealing 80 (+5 x Champion level) per pulse, and reducing the MR of champions hit by 15% for 10 seconds. Stacking up to a total of 45% MR reduction

Pros: Health that didn't exist before MR Shred that frankly becomes massive after a little while. Increased MR Smaller cost items to build so the build path is technically smoother. A little extra damage

Cons: Less than half the AP of it's predecessor Loses flat magic penetration Now potentially has 3 items clogging up your inventory while you build it.

My biggest problems with this item rework is that I bought the item for the flat penetration. It was an early build on champions like Diana and Katarina for me. I frankly don't believe that Haunting guise/Liandry's Torment make much sense on Katarina or Diana, so aside from Sorc shoes it just make the most sense for the flat penetration to assassinate squishies. You could remove more than half of their magic resistance with that item due to the flat penetration. Additionally it didn't seem like a wasteful build 30 AP is virtually nothing, makes it not make a whole lot of sense for assassins any longer.

I get that tanks are more prevalent and that a magic damage version of black cleaver would be brilliant, but it's almost more of a support item now, or an item to build on Magic Damage tanks like Maokai. I frankly think it's an unnecessary rework, unless another item comes to replace it in term of flat penetration.
