Why is Twitch not more popular?

His mid/late game is as good as any ADC. In the tank meta with his true damage, DoTs, ability to ult through the tanks into the back line, and ability to flank teams, shouldn't he be played way more? I know his early game is pretty weak, but so is Vaynes.

The weak early game is a pretty large part of it. While his actual early game power may be about the same as other weak early AD carries, he's uniquely powerless if he gets behind. He has no reliable escapes if he gets jumped on. He doesn't get a massive dueling spike at 6 like Vayne does (his ult is good, but it can't turn around a losing lane like hers can). He doesn't have any good ranged farming skills. If he gets behind, he stays behind hard. So, his weaknesses early on aren't really comparable to anyone else's. It does hold him back a lot.

He's also not really that powerful in the tank meta. The true damage DoT isn't really more effective against tanks than against squishies because of their high health pool. Additionally, ulting through a tank to hit the backline is nice, but it's not that great of a way to take out a backline because of the damage falloff. Twitch usually thrives when he can flank an enemy team and hit the squishies directly, passing damage across them from outside of their range, but the tank meta can actually pose a problem for him trying to do that because they can quickly engage on and CC him. Having to play back behind his own tankline while throwing damage into their tankline is ok for him, but it's nothing amazing.

I'm not saying he's bad in the tank meta. I'm just trying to say that he's not great in it. He's pretty neutral on the subject.

twitch is the third best adc tank killer, right behind kog/vayne. he has 2 steroids and his standard build includes 3 pen items bork, youmu, lw. in addition to having the highest base attack speed of any adc.

also people dont realize his true utility, stealth from the side, pick off a carry thanks to ambush ult + youmu and they're dead in 2 AA's thanks to crits, with the right positioning you can pick off both caries at the start of a fight and dish out some major damage, its just too hard to pull off against people who actually back up when they dont see twitch.

twitch's biggest problem is his weak early game, he gets harassed and bullied by nearly everyone and it just causes a mess if he doesn't get his farm.

twitch is a top contender if not the best late game adc thanks to 2 steroid abilities and a 850 AA range (item 3085 has the potential to double his damage output) thanks to "applies on hit affects" the bolts also gain piercing and hit all targets as well (massive damage but hard to get the enemy team to group up like that)

Varus is a stronger tank killer than twitch and honestly I would say kalista is too (both have % health damage) Also twitch doesn't have the escapes to get away from a tank that wants to sit on top of him so once a tank dives him he is dead unless he gets peel. Finally I checked the numbers on expunge vs rend recently and rend will do more damage in almost every single instance

which is only procable once under circumstances and not that easy to do when they have braums knocking u up +ori's ulting +sion ulting and lets not forget the toplane rengar rooting u to make it happens and cointcidentally ur team has no tank... again (they say tank meta but my team never has a tank TT)

In that same situation a Twitch certainly isn't killing any tanks either so that point is kind of moot. If we're going off of potential tank-shredding power, Twitch doesn't keep up with the top dogs, that's just not going to happen - his kit isn't build for tank-shredding. Twitch operates similarly to Clinkz in DotA: He wants to ambush squishies after a power spike (BotRK for Twitch, Orchid Malevolence for Clinkz), and he wants to secure his late game strength. If he can't, then like Clinkz, he will become fairly big liability all the way up until they hit their late-game power and catch up.

If you have lockdown for Clinkz and Twitch, they can't utilize their dueling power. If Twitch and Clinkz can't access the squishies for whatever reason happens to be the case, then they'll have problems because neither of them excel at taking out the front-line heroes. Like Clinkz, if Twitch gets put behind because of his lackluster power before his item power-spike, he will stay behind and struggle to be relevant for the entirety of the game.

you really dont understand 2 AA's per second, and bork combination. thats 16% health lost in physical damage per second ignoring the damage on his auto. he can also build cleaver and suddenly their tank isn't so tanky.

bork, youmu/boots, lw/ie, fill with cleaver/huricane/ga/banshees. thats 2 attacks per second with around 340 damage and 2 atks per second. ult puts him at 376damage with a near full pen build, twitch has amazing late game potential* (people seriously dont know how to play twitch, hes all about the proper positioning and people want to play him as traditional adc with him lw ie pd pick one target and attack that target safely) thats wrong, you go ham with twitch and trust in your team to protect you and peel for you and you become a damage god.

16% current health, very important distinction.

And you can't put Twitch in a great situation like that and then you guys put Varus or Kalista in a situation in which they get trainwrecked. If you give Varus those same items the tank WILL die faster. Twitch isn't a tank-shredder. Vayne, Kog'maw, Varus, those are the premier tank-shredding ADCs, Twitch is not. Incidentally, if those three want, they can buy the exact same items as your proposed Twitch and then proceed to kill that same tank faster than him. Yes, including Vayne buying Black Cleaver because fuck it. It's the nature of the %hp damage in their kits that makes them tank-shredders, and Twitch outright does not have that.

I'm not saying Twitch is bad, even if I personally do not like him, but he is no more a tank-shredder than Graves is. He has power, but it does not shine against tanks. It's not his role, and he doesn't need it forced upon him.

2 STEROID ABILITIES

+70 ias, +36ad, its not % based, but its just as good as extra percent health damage when you consider his penetration build

and then theres the "hitting multiple targets" aspect potentially dealing 5x what any other carry could do (except for jinx with her Q).

Anidan1 votes

80 + 8% max hp true damage, 70 Attack Damage, builds a lot of attack speed because of extreme scaling, potential CC.

30% passive attack speed, 6% of max hp PER HIT, range steroid, armor/MRes reduction

20-40% attack speed, 5% max hp per blight stack (and it's extremely easy to proc them), potential CC.

The weakest of them there is Varus, and he still shreds tanks better with an easy potential 45%-60% if the fight drags on long enough, and they can and have.

Twitch does not compare to them in terms of tank-shredding. He kills the squishies. That's what he does. Even with two steroids, he does not keep up with them in terms of tank-shredding, nor should he because that isn't his job. He doesn't keep up with them, and Varus is even more utility-oriented (not in a great place at the moment though) to boot.

+70 ias, and +36 ad is just not as good as percentage based damage against a tank. It never will be, it is not meant to be. He deals with squishies better than all three of them, barring maybe a duel against a post-6 Vayne, and that's just because she's an excellent duelist.

Twitch has his role, don't take his role and extend it to cover something he can't do as well as others. Just because he is an ADC, a natural tank-shredding role, does not mean he himself excels at it any more than the other ADCs. His damage is simply not impressive against a tank.

you can think whatever you want, but until you actually play twitch and get both champs with the 6 item build, and test it for yourself, and see twitch's amazing damage, you just cant say "but this is better because percents"

it may be slightly less, pending crits, but you need to understand, twitch is still hitting the rest of the enemy team with piercing shots. and twitch decimates groups. 850 AA range is just soooo good.

i can understand you just dont make it to 6 items and twitch just doesn't feel very rewarding throughout the early and mid game, but im telling you from experience, twitch is a late game hyper carry the same as kog and vayne. he just plays out differently.

he favors a bursty aoe quick fight rather than a sustained single target keep it at bay type deal.

Anidan1 votes

"He favors a bursty aoe quick fight rather than a sustained single target" that's exactly why he isn't a good tank-shredder, which is what the topic was originally about in the first place.

I never said he was bad late game, I said he wasn't a good tank-shredder. He can do the teamfights, to a limited degree, and he can do duels, but he can't shred tanks any better than any other ADC, and certainly not as well as the three listed.

go play twitch, blow everything he has, see how long it takes him to kill a tank. do the same with varus or whomever you choose, tell me if theres a noticeable difference.

spoiler alert, there isn't, twitch often comes out ahead of the other guy because hes actually using abilities instead of the other guys who can just auto.

that is his potential, setting it up is the only difficulty, you need to play him to understand it.

Anidan1 votes

His abilities consist of his two steroids (Q, R), a slow/set-up for his E (W), and his only damaging ability: E. Expunge is on an 8 second cooldown baseline, so that being his only damage is lackluster except against squishies. Not only that, the damage on Expunge is as follows: 80+(35+20% AP+25% bonus AD), resulting in a maximum of 290+(120% AP+150% Bonus AD), in physical damage. That's actually not very intimidating to a tank as opposed to true damage and magic damage that scales with your own health in a damage type separate from their auto attacks. If you itemize Armor/HP against Twitch, he cannot burst you.

The hardest part about Twitch isn't setting up to kill the tank, it's bypassing the tank entirely to get to the squishies because he won't handle the tank in any timely manner. Again, that is completely, 100% fine.

And to your request, I have done that kind of thing before, and seen it done. In my observations, a Twitch blowing everything he has will still not kill that tank before Vayne does, before Kog'maw does, or before Varus does. Remember, they're using abilities, too.

Twitch is not bad in the later game, again, he's good at that point, but he is no more of a tank-shredder than Ashe. And between the two, I'd fear a fed Ashe more than a fed Twitch.

you're not taking into consideration that you have to stop and "cast time" to use abilities on other champs. im dropping this conversation after this post.

go do whatever test you like, any way you can think of, whatever the build, against the same tank, i guarantee
twitch can kill a tank faster than most most other adcs, and kog/vayne/varus will be the only contenders at which point it will be so close it wont even matter. but also consider, twitch is also doing a metric f ton of splash damage to the rest of the oposing team while destroying the tank.

dont think that because he doesn't have built in %hp damage he cant kill tanks effectively. thats what his naturally high base attack speed covers, and 2 steroids.

bork + twitch ult + hurricane puts out incredible damage, test it for yourself. i can assure you, the bolts gain piercing as well. it may not feel like much compared to the main auto, because the bolts were already halved and they now also get diminished down to 20% of that starting 50%, but it does happen, your targets might not be grouped up.

every single hit and spread is all putting out bork damage. thats why bork is key on him, and raw attack speed.

Backup4now7 votes

His kit sounds good on paper, but you've got to compare him a bit harder to other adcs.

His damage is complete poopy. You have to accept this. His poison is poopy until late game, when it's still poopy (and by no means a tank shredder), his expunge actually doesn't do good damage at all at any point in the game (just seems strong because it's a surprise, but it does like 200 damage at level 9 after armor), and it's physical so if he doesn't get armor pen it's even more poopy, and his w does no damage. He does, however, have an ad and as steroid, giving him decent stats over other characters.

Ulting through tank to the backline may sound nice, but in reality you have to be close to their team to do that, and the backlines take massively reduced damage, to the point where it's outhealed by lifesteal. Therefore, poopy.

His ult is almost always better off used to just outrange people and flank, as you said, usually hitting 1 or 2. The reduced damage per hit makes it worthless to try and get into a risky situation to hit more than 2 people. If the ult did full damage to everyone (or old tiamat was still a thing), then he would be really good since players would go the risky path for the big bucks and try ulting the whole enemy team instead of 2 people, dealing insane damage to everyone. But it doesn't, it isn't, and so they don't. Hitting 2 people at once allows him to outdamage other ADCs, but having a vi, nocturne, long range mage, and other long range counters etc. forces him to not enter the fight until it's already been going on for a few seconds and the ultimates have been used, so his team has already been weakened by the 4v5, and by then he'll have a tough time landing it on multiple people or he'll end up using it and then run away emmediately, wasting it.

He has stealth positioning that can't easily be used as an escape, unlike every ADC and mage and tank and bruiser these days that just chase him down if they have any advantage over him or run away or dash over a wall. He can't stick to people with dashes without putting himself in danger, and he can't run. It's all-or-nothing with twitch, and people don't like risky picks.

With all that, he has his roles and picks when he's good like cc-heavy teams or teams with shen, but in general he's just unsafe and dies too easy. Other ADCs still outdamage him in 1v1 scenarios, especially early game, and they're much safer and they probably have a much, MUCH better early game, allowing them to fight whenever they want instead of waiting for "just the right moment" like Twitch.

ZileanUltJesusOP5 votes

He has an extremely weak early game and is very susceptible to ganks with 0 mobility. Also he must, and i mean MUST, have kills. Farm doesnt cut it like most adc's because he is very item dependent. If he flanks the team and isnt fed he will get insta melted. He also has one of the most worthless passives in the game. he has absolutely no escape so if he unstealths and the enemy team has someone like Vi, you are dead every fight.

disregardable5 votes

I personally don't play him because he is completely useless without his ultimate, and even then he isn't that good. His power is too conditional and way too weak compared to other ADCs.

Saianna4 votes

Twitch mid/late game is good as any other ADCs, yes but his early is worse.

In early game Twitchs passive is almost non existant, while mid/late game is just OK'ish. Tbh Kogmaws passive rocks alot more (it's true dmg in AOE even allowing you to choose targets).

Simply put anything that Twitch has to offer most of ADCs do at least twice better. Poke? Junx, Sivir, Graves, Teemo Mana Sustain? Any other ADC Mobility? Most of ADCs Early Damage? Same as before Mid/Lategame usefullness? +/- The same as rest, but without mobility and ways to escape he's most likely to die faster than rest of ADCs..

Xinotine3 votes

Well, I think its mostly him having weak early just like Vayne or Jinx, but for example Vayne scales still better into lategame trough her true damage and Jinx trough her AoE dmg. Twitch has his ulti, which is pretty wonderful but while its down he is pretty lackluster compared to Vayne (who has her W all time) or Jinx (who has her Q all time).

ZileanUltJesusOP2 votes

did you just say jinx has a weak early game....

WildCard82311 votes

Yes, he did. Because she does.

ZileanUltJesusOP3 votes

has an average early game compared to all adc's. weak would be twitch or vayne or kog and possibly even kalista until around level 7 or 8

Xinotine5 votes

Weird, I would imagine Kalista as strong laner since she can dodge a lot, she has way to farm with E reset, she also has poke skillshot and she has some additional vision on her kit to keep her safer from ganks :/.

ZileanUltJesusOP2 votes

i meant from a damage stand point. Her early game damage is pretty weak, also most popular adc's right now dont really care about her dodging as their abilties either arent skill shots or are aoe. I play a lot of draven and i can tell you draven does not care that you can hop around all over the place.

WildCard8232 votes

Kalista's best point is the 0-25 minute mark. Her win rate drops as the game progresses. The reason why Jinx is considered to have a weak early game is partially due to the lack of escapes. She can get ganked pretty easily. She shines in team fights. Jinx's best point is around the 30 minute mark. Kog'Maw is very good early game, then drops off, then gets better in the early late game before falling off again.

ZileanUltJesusOP1 votes

This post was literally so retarded it hurt. You use the no escape crap on jinx yet ignore it on kog? kogs early damage is mediocre just like vayne, but he is the 2nd best late game adc in the game. Jinx shines at the 15-20 min mark as she can absolutely melt towers and escape easily, this is the time period in which the most split pushing is done. Her team fight is good, but not as good as say graves or draven or kalista. If i need to break out level 1-5 damage on kalista vs every other adc i will just to prove you wrong. Also you have 0 ranked experience which means all of your insight is for normals making it almost discredited.

WildCard8232 votes

I am looking at win-rates by game length for platinum+. You're speculating.

ZileanUltJesusOP1 votes

win rate has 0 determination on whether or not a champion is strong, currently zed and leblanc sit at 48 percent wi nrates, yet they are incredibly strong. try again

WildCard8233 votes

Total win rate is FAR different from win-rate by game time. I put almost no stock in total win rate, as it gets brought down by people playing champs for the first time. Win-rate by game time is different because the noobs on certain champs don't count in this calculation since it's not comparing wins to losses, just when these champs win the games. Try again.

ZileanUltJesusOP2 votes

vayne is the best late game adc in the game no argument yet draven has the highest late game win percentage, then kog, then vayne. So i guess that means draven is the best lol? win-rate by game time is worthless, there are too many factors that come into play that dont even involve you as a player such as your team. If jinx is such a late game beast according to you why did riot obliterate her early game and buff her late game? lol keep trying man me and my friends find this hilarious

WildCard8233 votes

You can't compare win rates at X time with each champ. You have to compare all within the champion. For example, comparing Draven's win rate at 30 minutes and Vayne's win rate at 30 minutes doesn't mean much. You have to compare Draven's win rate at 20 minutes to his win rate at 30 minutes.

Let's look at Draven. He has a 53% win rate from 0-25 minutes. It drops to 50% from 25-30 minutes. It goes up to 52% from 30-35 minutes. It drops to 50 from 35-40 minutes. It goes up to 51% in games that are 40+ minutes.

This shows that Draven is best early on.

Now, if we look at Vayne's: She has a 51% win rate from 0-25 minutes. It drops to 50% in the next increment. Then, it goes up to 52%, 52.5%, then finally 54% at 40+ minute games. This shows that Vayne is better the longer the game goes.

Kog'Maw's win rate is the highest between 30-35 minutes.

The... what? None of what he said had anything to do with champion strength. He was talking about when a champion is strongest and weakest by checking the win graphs by seeing at general time increment they win around. He, literally, did not say anything about champion strength. Only you did. In fact, you even did what he didn't do, and evidently does not advocate, which was compare their win-rate times to each other directly. He read the graphs and just took note of when a given champion was at their strongest, and noted that, independent of a champion's actual strength as compared to some other champion.

You did not contest anything he said in the slightest, Brut4l. This wasn't even an argument - this is the debate equivalent of a stomp.

Twitch is a great mid - late game champion, but if you fall behind early game which is VERY easy, you'll have a difficult time to reach that point. Twitch's early game is just so bad and unforgiving that it makes people not want to play him. He has very little damage and none of his abilities are really great for bullying. Sure your Passive + E is good for extra damage, but that alone won't help you outtrade most ADCs level 1. Twitch is just so non existent early game that it makes people question to play him, rather than someone like Vayne or Jinx who are also late game hypercarries, but with a better early game.

He lacks any decent mobility, his stealth doesnt cut it because it takes a delay and if you take damage while going into stealth it takes 6 min-errrr seconds to activate which is downright dreadful. His early game is PATHETIC compared to other adcs, his early game passive damage hurts as much as a paper cut. Lack of wave clear is another factor, when compared to champs like Sivir or Jinx who not only have a better late game than him but can wave clear extremely well he's just simply out classed. Sure He's great if you know how to use him or a team knows how to set him up well but he just doesn't cut it anymore. He needs either a decent buff or another rework(and considering how Samsung white won world LCS with twitch, i doubt he's gonna get one anytime soon)

What..? His true damage is good in a TANK meta..? This isn't an Armor/MR tank meta, this is a 6k health with minimal armor and MR tank meta. This META is happy time for big HP numbers, which requires big numbers as well. His DoT is near useless against a tank for 4k+ health since it has no scalings outside of levels, so it has no ability to combat the health.

Then there's the fact he's an Assassin/Burst ADC. Assassins aren't very good against tanks and ADCs are meant to kill the TANKS. He's also not very mobile if there's anything in his face since his Q has such a LONG delay as long as he's being hit, plus he usually has to initiate with his Q to begin with just to properly position. If his team can peel well, he can do well, but if they can't peel well, then he's not as good as most ADC's who have self-peel or high mobility, like Graves, Vayne, and Lucian. Even Cait fairs better in this meta with her net being an advantage over Twitch. Jinx even has a slow and a snare that she can drop on her own face to self-peel if needed or put a well between herself and a tank. Twitch... can't do anything if something gets near him except trying to kill it.

I liked twitched but I was so weak early that it was impossible to deal with all the jinx, graves, Lucian's and kill supports. He indeed is extremely strong at 4 items. Only time I did really well was when I got to lane swapp. If you ever saw twitch in pro play they always lane swapped. But with the recent pupolarity increase for vayne I feel you can pick I'm into her for a smooth laning phase. It's just impossible to play into Leona (graves/bursty early game adc)

Simply because he is a low skill/low reward champion. His basic kit only shines when people put enough time and patience in learning how to use his abilities effectively.

I think Twitch would be great, if he didn't have his utterly useless W
