So I just laned against the new Katarina

ummmm...not impressed. Not surprised. But not impressed at all.

Riot has this reputation of "fixing" or "balancing" things but making them broken as hell in the process.

I was TwistedFate which I know is not the best pick, but Katarina was picked into me and I didn't get a ban either so there was really nothing I could do about that.

At level one I was like "Her blades can only bounce three times now. No longer can she farm entire waves by pressing Q, or poke as much. It feels so nice". I punished her during this phase as much as a level 1 Twisted Fate can. Hitting her with pick a card any chance I could get to hopefully deny her cs, and it was working pretty well. I wasn't doing much damage, but I was out farming her pretty good.

And then the blinks started happening. At first I simply passed if off as a mild nuisance. Then it became a great nuisance. Then it became the most annoying shit on the planet Earth. One slight misclick and she pounced, blinking on to me, dropping a dagger, melee-ing me, blink to next dagger, and an ignite for style points, and she 100-0'ed me.

"Ok" I said to myself. "This definitely isn't good. I have to play defensive now, and stay the f*%k away from her daggers where ever they fall". Using this tatic I once again began to out-farm her and by a pretty significant amount. She was still able to occasionally poke at me though and after pushing a wave I had to back. Time to buy some MR.

And then she roamed bot and scored a double kill. "Holy crap!! The only other enemy in bot lane at the time was Soraka which means Kat did all the damage and this was two kills in 3 seconds. How much damage does she have?" I opened the tab menu to see her item list. There, sitting a box affixed with the single number 1, was a item 1057, followed by a pair of item 1001 .

The rest of the game was awash. Despite trying to counter build Katarina simply did way too much damage for me to contest her for long. She was hella cocky too, blinking under turret just to get to me, I would always gold card, and try for the Q, and auto for a thunderlords proc, plus about two or three turret shots...never killed her. She would blink right back out with about half health left.

Don't get me wrong, I can tell just by looking at it that Katarina takes much more skill to play now than she did before, but she still has the problem in that her power spike is not at level 6 like most champs, but at level 3. At this level she can Q for a dagger, W for a dagger, and E all over the place for a ton of damage. Sure I play TF, whose main combo can also be accessed at level 2 or 3, but TF has nowhere near the damage output.

I found the problem. Nothing to do with katarina. Her damage is easy enough to negate now if you can correctly position yourself away from her daggers.

The problem is you are a bronze support main. I scrolled through like 100 of your games with nothing but support. It's not a champion balance issue. Just figure out how the new kat works and practice playing againsed her, it will get better once you know how :-] It is no suprise that the one random mid game you played you got beat. Not related to katarina :-P

the new kat is only good against people who don't know how to move. So as tf, you were pretty screwed. As someone like ahri or fizz, you'll destroy her hard.

yea, but you cant play tf obviously. anything with hard cc is her end.

TF has a point and click two second stun.... While I was able to land it occasionally it merely delayed her brutal slaughter of my team.

Also, wasn't this the whole point to the rework in the first place? To CHANGE how assassins are played? I mean of course her generic playstyle has changed, and there is a sight, if ever so slight, delay in her kill potential, but when you look at it she is still as snowball-y as she was before.

Sure you can counter Kat with hard cc....hard cc counters EVERYTHING. The point of the rework was supposed to be recognizing that hard cc shouldn't be the ONLY way to counter assassins...And while they have made them more difficult to play, that doesn't matter to a person who has been maining talon or zed since season 2. What's that? I now have to press 2 additional buttons for the new combo? cracks knuckles well alright.

They said that they were going to slow down assassins to allow people facing them some room for counter play but now I feel you just have a few more agonizing moments before the inevitable.

the real problem with kat is her mid/late game with a rylai, its fine until then.

Her early laning used to be terrible. They buffed it a lot, in exchange for making her later-game assassination much less reliable.

Twisted Fate should be losing lane against Katarina, she's an assassin and he's a squishy, immobile mage who is also a late-game champion. I'm not sure what you expect here. TF has always been relatively weak early and lost hard against assassins. A decent pre-rework Katarina would easily kill Twisted Fate before 6 unless he got heavy jungler help. The same is mostly true against all assassins.

The Katarina also out-roamed you, picking up some kills bot (and since her ADC was not in lane, I'd assume they had just died in a fight and so the enemy bot lane were very low) - yet you are Twisted Fate, who is the one who should be out-roaming the other mid-laner, since that's your main strength in the earlish-mid game.

I played against her now several times and I have to agree, that rework was no smart one (as most of the mage update and assassin update was). Who ever thought it was a good idea to give kata more mobility was not right in his mind. The big workaround for her dmg spikes was the predictability of her moves. But that is not longer the case cause she now can create "shunpo targets" out of nothing with her daggers and that is just broken right now. Sure it takes more mechanical skill now then before but that is not realy justifying the powerspike she recieves when played correctly. What's more is that like with the old katarina 80 % of her attack and defense patterns are learnable to a point where you can apply them blindly which has nothing to do with skill but with time invested.

My proposal: take away a good chunk of her survivability so that we can at least burst her down in an even fight.
