The Problem with Yasuo

Please don't downvote until you read the entire post, because I'm going to pull up some math stats to show why Yasuo needs to be changed; mainly his crit damage %.

Right now, Yasuo deals 190% critical damage instead of the regular 200%. Now, this isn't a big deal due to the fact 10% reduction isn't a big number in terms of damage in the 100's. And making this his "balanced reduction" to compensate for Double critical chance from items is simply absurd...

Amumu But why do you say that? How is it absurd? He deals 10% less damage from crits!

Well, after doing some math and pairing Yasuo against the champion with the highest base AD in the game (Mordekaiser ) you can see that Yasuo has almost 0 punishment to compensate the amount of damage he deals to him. Let's build these guys alike until one of them reaches 100% crit chance. Now, I don't have the math at 100% because I didn't include armor reduction, abilities, or attack speed. This is simply a fisticuffs where both champions have 0 armor and 1.0 attack speed.

Yasuo Base damage at 18: 109.776

Mordekaiser Base damage at 18: 146

Item: item 3087

Yasuo
Damage: 109.776
Crit: 40%

Mordekaiser Damage: 146 Crit: 20%

Item: item 3031

Yasuo Damage: 189.776 Crit: 80%

Mordekaiser Damage: 226 Crit: 40%

STOP: Yasuo now deals 240% crit damage, and Mordekaiser now deals 250% crit damage

Item: item 3142

Yasuo Damage: 209.776 Crit: 100%

Mordekaiser Damage: 246 Crit: 55%

STOP: Items will now focus more on damage. 100% critical chance reached on Yasuo

Item: item 3072

Yasuo Damage: 289.776 Crit: 100%

Mordekaiser Damage: 326 Crit: 55%

Item: item 3035

Yasuo Damage: 329.776 Crit: 100%

Mordekaiser Damage: 366 Crit: 55%

Battle: Champions will now auto attack at the same time, until one champion dies. Mordekaiser will crit once every 2 hits, Yasuo every 1 hit.

Damage the champion hits for will display on the left and HP will display on the right beside each champion for the hit summoner 30 will separate the numbers

Hit 1: 791.4624Yasuo 1545.76summoner 30 366Mordekaiser 974.5376

Hit 2: 791.4624Yasuo 630.76summoner 30 915Mordekaiser 183.0752

Hit 3: 791.4624Yasuo 264.76summoner 30 366Mordekaiser -608.3872

Amumu So why did you show this? What's the point?

Well, the point is that Yasuo can get to 100% crit chance with just 3 items (2 with runes), while increasing his damage to 240% critical damage in just 3 items. This allows Yasuo to spend the last 3 item slots (4 with runes) for going pure damage or attack speed and gain the potential to out-damage any champion in the game on fair grounds. Not only that, but with crit-damage runes and damage masteries, Yasuo becomes the strongest champion in the game. He can counter-play ranged champions without punishment, gains a shield that doesn't need to be activated before getting hit, and has more mobility than most champions with his dash.

Yasuo doesn't take a hit in damage that other champions have to in order to double their damage permanently with critical chance. Most champions need to build 4-5 items to get to 100% ciritical chance, taking a big hit on their damage potential. Yasuo again, does not.

What I believe should happen to make it more fair, and to give Yasuo some character punishment, is to reduce his critical chance even more, to about 150-170% critical damage. This creates a situation where Yasuo damage spikes higher than other champions with items, but takes a hit on his critical damage because of his lack of items he needs to reach 100% ( or even 80-90%).

Also give Yasuo wind wall a resource requirement....there's no punishment for using the ability other than a 16 second cooldown. That's enough to have it up before a 2nd fight or gank

First, IE makes Yasuo's crit chance 225%; Yasuo's -10% crit damage applies after total crit damage% is calculated.

Second, even with the crit chance steroid Yasuo is the weakest melee carry, damage wise. The other steroids melee carries have simply outperform his: Tryndamere's 35% crit chance and 25-85 AD and Master Yi's double strike, 10% AD, 20% AD as true damage on hit, and 80% bonus AS. In return for having lower damage Yasuo has increased safety and a conditional hard CC.

its not mainly the crit that's the problem its the overall kit high output medium health high mobility high cc high range high sustain high defense ( double shield)

he simply does not trade anything..... like a lot of champions :/

riot should forbid non junglers jungle items and non adc bot lanes crit items O.O it takes away a little freedom but balanced the game and makes for more versatile builds ._.

i'd say conditional mobility, cc, and range, not high. his passive shield also got nerfed pretty hard a while ago.

gain the potential to out-damage any champion in the game except for Vayne ... becomes the strongest champion in the game apart from Vayne. ... He can counter-play ranged champions, excluding Vayne, without punishment

Fixed those for you lel.

The Problem with Yasuo

You're making a pretty solid case for the inverse, in that Mordekaiser (with 0 AA steroids) can out-DPS Yasou (who has a x2 crit damage steroid).

Also - Yasou's -10% crit damage steroid takes him from 200% DPS to 180% DPS, or 250% (IE) to 225%. It's not 200% to 190% as you claim.

Furthermore: AD, AS, armor pen, and %armor pen steriods will also multiply AA DPS just as a double crit steroid will, and on-hit abilities will add to AA DPS. Out of tanks, fighters, assassin, marksman, mages, and supports - only mages lack an AA steroid more than 50% of the time, so several champions do come much closer (and often surpass) the AA DPS of Yasou. And yes - supports. Janna's +50 AD steroid will allow her to out-DPS Yasou in a AA brawl for a good part of the game.

Well, the point is that can get to 100% crit chance with just 3 items (2 with runes), This allows Yasuo to spend the last 3 item slots (4 with runes) for going pure damage or attack speed and gain the potential to out-damage any champion in the game on fair grounds.

As for this: average game length is ~33 minutes and average player income is 11k for all non-support rolls. Which breaks down to 3 major 3k items, 1k in boots, and 1k in the bank when someone's Nexus explodes. Getting more powerful than the next guy with 4 major items isn't much of an advantage when that only happens ~33% of the time when you're already winning in the first place.

Finally - AA DPS isn't the only form of damage in the game. The majority of game-changing and game-winning damage is more in abilities. Yasou being able to kill someone over 6 seconds by AAing them isn't that impressive or useful when someone like Annie can OHKO half a team in 1 second.

I wrote a Yasuo rework thread that I believe balances him in a way, also removing his critical strike passive that you seem to discuss here.
