The problem with Katarina

The problem with Katarina isn't her scalings or her QWER or anything like that.

It's her passive. Everytime she gets a kill she gets ANOTHER QWE.

Which would be fine on almost any other class of champion but it is a really stupid passive on an assassin. An assassin is supposed to choose their target wisely, swoop in, kill that target, and then escape or die.

However Kat's passive makes her a very Hit or Miss champion. If she is able to kill ONE person, she is able to kill another...and another...and another and another and before you know it the whole team is dead.

On the other side if she fails at killing that first person...she is dead.

Like isn't Riot trying to fix champions that either Penta or busts?

On top of being the reset champ, she's also a seriously gutted champ with a history of reworks to get her into the relatively stable state she is in now, i.e. undertuned and slaughtered by the lightest of cc.

Her mere presence is a cc magnet which makes playing her a team effort as she is free gold otherwise.

Yes her mere presence is a cc magnet, and cc does counter her but what does that do to stop a Kat from bursting in and kill your adc before you can even flinch? A single QWE combo can kill ADC's very quickly and then give her a chance to kill again or escape. Am I saying that she is broken? No. But serioulsy who thinks that it's a great idea for a champ to EITHER be useless or massacring everyone?

It's advised that you don't target Katarina's resets as the problem with her. Those are fine. The real problem is the fact that you can do it really quickly. It's kind of why they might be targeting her W and her Q when the assassin update comes. Expect information very soon.

If for some reason she isn't any of the big 4, then she'll probably be reworked like Akali.
