People With Smurf Accounts

PapaGreg21··45 votes·3,727 views

I keep reading posts about people getting upset with the community while playing their smurf account. The great irony is that they have more than likely made life miserable for a lot of new players for possibly hundreds of matches.

If you are on a smurf account and get to a match where somebody has done something to irritate you, please remember that this is just a drop in the bucket compared to the months of "noob stomping" you have done to get yourself up to level 30 on your secondary account. Riot has worked pretty hard at making sure that everyone is playing people at appropriate skill levels and you are the one that keeps messing up that system by oppressing beginner players.

If you are a smurf and you win every game your MMR will go high enough to where you will likely be only playing with other smurfs just trying to grind to 30 as well.

DeathBurst6 votes

Yeah, so instead you troll and make the game horrible for your team half the games.

Then the other half you stomp, and make the game horrible for the other team.

T RexHasTinyArms3 votes

That is called being an asshole, not just having a smurfing account.

DeathBurst1 votes

Because you don't believe people do that?

I mean, if your smurf is at the same MMR than your real account, what's the point?

I have an NA smurf to play with friends on NA.

Leveling a second account bc a friend joined the game and you leveled w/ them, high elo players who want shorter que times (ie challenger players smurfing in plat or low diamond for fast que times), you duo'd to your rank on first account and are trying to solo to the same rank on the second to see if you are able to solo carry yourself there, playing alt roles that you aren't as skilled on at a lower elo so you don't ruin games at your main elo (ie if I played ADC I'd have to smurf bc I'm a bronze level ADC probably).

There are lots of reasons that don't involve being a jackass. There are just enough people who smurf bc they are jackasses and want to stomp lower players instead of getting better themselves, that people forget there are any other reasons.

Ahhh... so this is my problem. I need to make sure I lose a ton of the games to get the opportunity to "pwn noobs". Starting a new one tonight.

Really hoping that's a troll comment, not actually what you'll do. If it really is, you might as well uninstall.

This guy is right. I leveled up an alt account and was playing other smurfs after about 15-20 normal games. Your MMR goes up pretty quick...

oh yeah maybe thats why as an unranked I've been matched with diamonds b4

Or maybe normals mmr doesn't match up with ranked mmr, and as players become high elo they don't play normals, they just played ranked so their normals mmr isn't that good.

Implying that a smurf can't stomp with a support.

Fancifulfire1 votes

Unless you go "Support" Lux. But yeah it'd be hard with Raka, not impossible though.

ModKnightsKemplar1 votes

So.... how do you think that makes the enemy team feel? Not stomped, somehow magically?

It's still really rough on new players to do that. That fact that you aren't hard carrying with Zed on your smurf doesn't make you a saint. Smurfs are still not good for the game, in general.

ZLbSwAR23I2 votes

If you're a smurf, the game will recognise that. Fast. Within three games.

Within ten games, you're only going to be playing against other smurfs, so why does it matter?

DeathBurst3 votes

Not in ranked. In ranked, you are matched with people in your division, +/- 2 maximum. But it is really easy to not change divison: just queue dodge your promos series.

PDE5 Inhibitors4 votes

You're actually matched with the same MMR people, regardless of division.

DeathBurst1 votes

I would be really surprised if it is the case, based on my in-game experience. May I ask from where you get your information?

Hardstuck G42 votes

Mostly proof. I hit a 25 game win streak near the end of Season 5 (I cried when I lost it), and I ended up playing against a few high plats before I tilted like a bish.

DeathBurst1 votes

A few high Plat when you were in what division yourself?

Hardstuck G41 votes

S3-S1, can't remember exactly. Then, the tilt hit, and I missed my chance for Gold :|

TakoBell4 votes

If you're playing at about the elo you belong in you'll never notice it. Once you've played a reasonable amount of games, the average player's MMR and rank should be about the same, with as you said, perhaps with a +/- 1 divison difference. (i.e. your MMR is gold 3, and your rank in game is gold 4, so the majority of the players you get paired with are from gold IV to gold 2 which seems normal).

However, if you are playing well above your in-game rank, your MMR rises much faster to attempt to get you where you belong faster. This is mostly evident in accounts with low numbers of games played because they haven't evened out yet. For example on an alternate account, I was placed into Gold V and due to in-game performance and consistent winning, I began skipping divisions after promotions, getting 30-35 LP per win losing 8-10 per loss, and at the most extreme point was Gold I paired with D5 opponents/teammates. After that, the gap starts to close very fast, and then like most other accounts, the in-game rank will match the MMR. It just takes a certain amount of games, depending on the disparity.

P0IS0N IVY1 votes

Yeah division doesn't matter. It's all based on your MMR. You can dodge a bunch of times all the way down to bronze while having diamond MMR.

There was a Janna main at some point who did that for hilarity.

Having a really high MMR and not moving up divisions is not possible. LOL. Smurf lover.

ZLbSwAR23I1 votes

So once you're level 30, it doesn't matter anyway.

T RexHasTinyArms4 votes

You are matched based on mmr. It doesn't change when you dodge. MMR is why low gold players who start losing a lot after getting gold are in mid silver level games, and why a diamond smurf on a new account will be playing in plat after placing in gold if they play their main roles. MMR is based on games won or lost, and when you dodge it doesn't count as a lost game, just LP loss or a strike against promos. Same thing is true with decay in plat+. Rank goes down but match making is just as hard.

What is even the point of making a secondary account anyways? Besides of course for different regions.

I mean, i buy skins, a lot of people do, I like playing with those skins so I'm having a hard time imagining the draw of making a totally new account with no champions or anything unlocked and starting the same grind over again.

Unless of course people actually DO make secondary accounts JUST for the satisfaction of an easy win?

Wait a sec, how does an easy win because your skills are 10x more than your opponents give any satisfaction at all? It's like playing smash and giving the yourself a 300% damage handicap against a level 1 CPU opponent. Too easy, no effort.

Edit: spelling error

yeah ive pu like 60 bucks into this game i am never changing accounts.

Playing with friends, trying experimental stuff without damaging your stats, and, yes, stomping noobs (comparatively to you).

I can understand the first 2, but it's still very un-fun for the people in the opposing team.

DazedOnlooker1 votes

i can't even imagine making a smurf account when like you said, have thrown money down on my main account, and grinding to make rune pages from scratch again is a scary thought. even if i was on winning streaks there is no way i would be satisfied in that state, Q_Q.

But i don't dislike smurfs or having to deal with them because i have come to terms with the fact that nothing may be done about them. as long as they aren't toxic (and most of the ones i have ran into were very toxic) then i can try to deal, though lately its becoming more and more difficult >_<.

Why do people care about smurfs? I played a lot of CS GO before coming to league and climbed to Legendary Eagle Master all the way from Silver 3. I learned along that journey that playing against smurfs is a good things so that you can learn from what they do. Another thing in CS GO that was more reliable that playing against smurfs was playing on a 3rd party matchmaking system like FaceIt, ESEA, and CEVO. Playing on these servers you would most likely play against high elo players like myself when you are only low level. I did this back when I started my climb to learn from the better players.

Now come to League where I'm S4 atm and have the goal to climb to diamond in season 6. In normals there is a high chance for me to be playing against multiple gold and plat players because of my mmr. Do I get upset when this happens? Hell no, if I lose I learn from my mistakes and see what they did right. When I win I feel a sense of accomplishment for winning against people higher elo than me. Do smurfs matter in this game? Hell no, if you're getting upset about a smurf losing your promos for you then you're simply an idiot. You lost to someone that's better than you and don't deserve a higher rank if you can't learn from your losses.

Now onto the smurfs that rage. If they get upset at someone in an elo way below their own, then they're just another bronze 5 shitter who cares about games that aren't on their main. For example, and back to CS GO, I have a smurf account that I played on with my friends that were way below my rank. I never cared about what would happen in those games, and would normally restrict myself with which guns I could buy. Again, if someone cares about a game that is way lower elo than their main then they just have a shit attitude and deserve their accounts to be temp banned for such idiotic behavior.

Just my little rant. I hope I didn't offend anyone unless you're looking to be offended. In which case you're just another bronze 5 shitter.

So i went to the gym today to start my membership

And i thought lets start with lifting 1000 pounds because you know it will make me getter better faster because its harder. So that one thay i might be able to become strong and lift 1000 pounds

Thats basically what i just read. . .

Complaining about an argument that is spoken only from truths is not helping anyone. My statement is also completely different from yours being that learning and training are 2 different things. What I'm saying is you can learn from these better players, not that they'll train you to be good. In league you have to train and learn. The training part only pertains to mechanics, which is not something that I brought up at all. Learning pertains to game sense and knowledge which is all that I talked about.

I made a smurf account because the match matching places me against Gold+ players if my account is over level 20... I never played rank and this has happened on 3 separate accounts. I get matched against players with 1000s of wins and in silver, gold, sometimes even plat.

Immortal MadMan1 votes

High elo games can be very boring and stressful since you're expected to play amazingly and people make little mistakes and its overall much less of a bloodbath. This is the reason why some people create smurfs, so they can relax and have fun.

I have a second account that i only leveled to about 15 only because I had gotten a few of my buddies into the game and wanted to level up with them so I wouldn't straight stomp every game with my level 30 account.

In all honesty though, smurfs for lower level players really isn't that common of an occurence (at least smurfs that are diamond+ on their primary account). The only issue i've noticed is that you can have a level 5 account laning against someone at level 15 which puts these new players at a legitimate disadvantage from the beginning of the game. I can recall last year when I was playing with my friends on my secondary account and I couldn't figure out why the enemy morde (prerework) was so much more tanky until the end of the game when I saw he was at level 21 while I and the rest of my team was 10 or lower. This issue alone is why new players have such a hard time staying with the game and ranking up. Any account over 20 shouldn't be matched against any account less than 20, however, I know this would completely fuck up matchmaking so that change would never happen. As long as they can grind to 20 they'll be fine in the long run.

I have made one smurf account, solely to level with two friends. Very quickly (by like lvl 10) we were playing against silvers / people with accounts very close to thirty (at that point, I personally didn't play against people that were obviously very new. Most players had at least bronze skill levels).

Now that I'm at level 25, we almost exclusively play against high silver - low plat players. I think the MMR weeds you out of pub stomping new players pretty quickly.

Elo boosting skews the elo distribution much worse than smurfing.

This is because the smurfs can actually play at their elo, but in boosting you leave someone at a much higher elo than they can play at so its almost an instant loss for their team.

FrickendaChicken1 votes

I think smurfing can be, but usually is not, healthy. A smurf on one team is giving pride to their teammates and something to admire and look forward to becoming however on the other team (as long as they aren't super oppressive and are just careful to try to teach instead of dominate) can become a learning experience of certain basics, like backing up when someone runs at you. I've seen someone learn to kite IN GAME.

But honestly, if you're smurfing, try to type to the person on their team who is the worst some simple advice. The thing they did worst, like standing in your minions or something. But idk, it may just be me.
