Zhonya counters one assassin. Maybe 2 if you count fizz as an assassin anymore. And again. It locks you in place and guarantees their combo hits you as soon as it ends.
But I’ll humor you. Let’s say it is the be all end all counter to assassins and when it’s up it makes them entirely irrelevant like every assassin main wants you to think.
It has a 2 minute cooldown. Significantly longer than most champions ultimate cooldowns. This is also putting the benefit into thinking all assassins are reliant on high cooldown ultimates for their kills. So this won’t work against most of them anyways.
Then use it to actually make them waste their abilities?
There is no Assassin that has 2.5 sec CD on their combo.
Block their main damage with it, then you are gucci.
Apart from the fact that you should always be in a place where you have either backup from your team or a tower at least anyway.
If you fight an Assassin 1v1 while pushed in a sidelane while your team is somewhere else far away from you then you did something wrong.
And the whole "An Assassin can oneshot you with 2 autoattacks" crap is BS when Zhonyas alone literally counters the Lethality of more than 2 Lethality items. Once you have just some armor they need their full combo, usually even more, to kill you if they aren't like completely in front.
And for the CD, I always wonder why it's so hard to just play safe while it's on CD.
In early game, most Assassins still have Ult CDs of 90-120 seconds.
Just play safe for those 30 seconds.
In late game you should be with your team anyway, and it's rare that 2 teamfights happen in less 2 minutes, so you'll have it up the next teamfight again.
If you get catched in late game while your Zhonyas is on CD that's not because Assassins are OP, but because you mispositioned.
It's not making Assassins entirely irrelevant, but Zhonyas gives an Assassin far less opportunities to kill you, and if they kill you, it usually comes down to being out of position.
