Why do you lose LP if the game crashes but you come back and your team wins?

I just had Riot's awful code completely crash my computer mid game making me need a complete reset. However I was doing well and had put my team in a good spot before I crashed. So I come back and my team is still winning and we go onto win the game. Then at the final screen after the game has ended I see "Victory -12 Points." So you're telling me you would rather I just never come back if my game crashes than to actively try to come back and help my team win the game? Another shockingly stupid addition in a sea of shockingly stupid things by Riot games.

Yup. Or at least that they don't care either way.

Which is a pretty dumb stance in my opinion.

Bottom line? Because riot would rather punish the bad behavior than reward the good behavior.

Because a lot of assholes would afk at 7 minutes, wait until the game was almost over, then come back.

It gives you a decent timeframe to come back in. 3-5 minutes. You should not be crashed for longer than that.

lol. Sure buddy. Let me know when your client gets stuck in a patching loop. I know how to fix it, but I'll make sure to tell you after 5 minutes.

I've never seen that happen to anyone. But a quick Google search could fix it.

A quick google search will tell you how to fix something you don't think exists? Does it "never happen to anyone" or not?

And google will tell you to try several things. Not all of them work for everyone, except one method I've seen. But hey, at least you know this problem you've never heard of won't take more than 3-5 minutes, right?

"I've never seen it happen" implies that it's obviously a fucking rare thing to ever happen, not that it never happens.

Then why even comment about it? lol

But you know a quick google search should fix it within 3-5 minutes. When it takes 1-2 minutes for the client to crash and restart, and then another 1-2 minutes to realize you're stuck in a patching loop. I hope the guy stuck in a loop that's never seen it before has some pretty high WPM and knows exactly what to look for, because he only has 1-2 minutes to search for the problem, fix the problem, restart his client, and reconnect to the game.

sometimes it takes me 5 minutes or less but other times it can take me up to 10 minutes to restart league and get logged back in

Granted, I've only had to restart my client maybe 10 or 12 times in the hundreds of games that I've played so it is a rare occurrence, however, if your team is still able to win I don't see a problem with giving the player having connection issues LP.

If someone afks at 7 minutes and then doesn't come back until the game is over....your team is losing. End of story. Unless the enemy team also has an afk you AREN'T winning a 4v5 for 75% of the game. The only way your team is winning is if you can reconnect in 90%+ of these scenarios. Do I think he should receive the LP similar to the amount he would have if he stayed? Probably not, but going net zero or at least receiving half LP is still better than taking an L on a game he did technically win for his team. As it stands if your computer crashes or something there is literally ZERO benefit to reconnect at all. You get no LP gain for it, you are still going to get wrecked by leaverbuster if it happens again, and you are literally only reconnecting to the game to help 4 strangers potentially win. You PERSONALLY get nothing out of it so there is no PERSONAL reason to reconnect at all. Going to play something else for 15 minutes or whatever until you can queue again is TECHNICALLY the best PERSONAL decision to make with the current system and if you don't see a problem with that then I don't know what to tell you.

When League crashes (at least for me) it takes the whole system with it, and that takes longer than 5 mins to come back; that said, I don't think it should be increased.

If its a hard crash I tend to wait for a couple of minutes to make sure I need to reset. Then between a hard restart of my pc, all the loading, and booting up league again, it normally takes me 6-9 minutes, riot could be a bit more lenient.

Riot logic is laughable this last 2 seasons

I think this is normal. In most case, going afk for more than 5 minutes increases drastically the chances of your team losing (especially true at higher elo). And some people would go afk for like 10 min if the early game was going bad, and then come back to win lp if their team was winning. No one wants that, and it would happen quite frequently. Whereas your scenario happens very rarely because you do everything you can to not go afk in a game.

The same reason they allow you to lose LP if someone ragequits 4 minutes into the game, making it an auto lose for the rest of you.

SmilesNSunshine1 votes

Had the exact same thing happen to me. I actually asked Riot support...they said something to the effect of that's what their system detects, the leaving, not the coming back.

I'm pretty sure having a failing hard drive that is corrupting data which triggers the game to recheck itself is purely a client side issue.

if you crash in a ranked game, i guess you might as well play a different game.

They treat it like a job, you show up for your shift (mid top adc supp or jung) and some where in between you just leave which would count was walking out aka immediate termination. Which is retarded but still its probably how they look at it.

Even if it was a job, if something happened to say a family member, your boss would prolly let you leave,

Hey, you got into a train wreck and were mugged but came in anyway? Hm, it seems you were 2 hours late. You're fired!

TheGreatNinx1 votes

Not how what i stated works. Your already there and you just left out of the blew with no reason given (which is why they should implement a question box that pop ups after said game so a person can review it and revert it if justifiable reason )

Flashes1 votes

No. In this case, circumstances out of your control are impacting what you can do about the situation. It's not like I can nicely ask a train to stop moving, just like how I can't just ask my game to stop lagging.

TheGreatNinx1 votes

Your scenario enovles on your way to work not already there is my point. Train can't hit you if your already there and just left (which is what dcing is like in the middle of match)

Why don't they just tie it to their grade? I.E. if a player DC's for long enough they would normally accrue a penalty, but they reconnect, the game is won, and their final grade was, say, A- or higher, don't penalize them?

That would be nearly impossible for a support or jungler since their grade is almost entirely based on wards/assists and wards/CS which will all take a huge hit.

If this is rank in League no way im bothering playing that, rather stick too comp in OW where at least it can tell the difference of crash comp/ragequit leaver.

OMG, I have the same issue. My game was crashed for no reason at the middle of the game. I was carrying hard. and I have to figure out how to fix the issue. My whole computer was frozen for more than 5 mins. I thought it would get better. In the end, I have to restart game and relog in, and we won the game, I still lost points. whats wrong with RIOT??? I am just so disappointed by the company with all recent changes. Feel like they do not care the game anymore. Maybe this is why many people quit League. Feelsbadman.
