Why is nobody talking about Warmog's?

Seriously. I can't be the only noticing that basically every tank at Worlds is rushing this item second or third and having infinite sustain. The fact that item 3153 and item 3151 aren't popular is exacerbating the problem as tanks are going unpunished for stacking health early. This item effectively makes it so that there is no reason to even hit a tank unless you plan on fully committing to it until they die.

The best part is the random CDR it had tacked on a few patches back in exchange for 50 health shaved off.

tanks are buying a health item? holy shit, someone call the cops.

if you want to talk about tanks buying warmogs, lets start talking about adc buying item 3086 items and mages buying item 3165

Doesn't help that item 3193 is basically the best item in the game for durability but you really need some HP to go with it which is where item 3083 comes in

sooo. your point being? are tanks supposed to be 2000 health bags like carries? defense is almost all of their power budget.

The problem isn't the health, the problem is the passive. combined with the fact that the crit/stoneplate meta is creating a climate where there is no downside to rushing warmog's.

Why should there be a downside to rushing warmogs? [sg-lux-2]

In principle, it's designed to fill a niche, (Give tanks some out of combat sustain) And the ideal trade off would be better stats that would have helped you in combat.

There's only 3 ways this could be OP.

A) If the stats are so good that it's become a standard pick up, instead of just for it's niche. And while 800 Health doesn't sound defensive enough, you also need to consider that in conjunction with Cinderhulk. (That adds up)

B) That the items niche is dictating the meta. And granted, I haven't seen many poke comps as of late, though I would tend to lean on the first possibility though.

C) The niche some how nullifies an intended weakness. This could be Champ specific, (HP battery Raka) or apply to an entire game mode. (ARAM)

As for the question about rushing it, just remember that a minimum HP is required to actually use it's core ability. At best, I would make it a second item tops, but I couldn't justify building it alone. And again, the fact that the sustain only happens out side of combat means a tank can be melted, if hit repeatedly. If you wanted IN Combat sustain, I'd go Knights vow. Piggy back off of the ADC's DPS.

Rushing Warmogs as 2nd or 3rd item without building any Armor or MR items is still bad. Sejuani's just an exception due to her passive.

item 3151 is acutally pretty popular though...

Darkdemon6532 votes

I'd assume no one cares about it because it's a weak item.

I guess because Warmogs is heavy situational Item and is just bad in terms of combat stats.

It's clear tradeoff and tradeoffs are good. just like the relic ADCs or simple warding.

TotalJerk1 votes

It's situational, but every single tank at worlds is buying it.

Titanium701 votes

They buy it because "better safe than sorry" is the religion, law and creed of worlds.

And Warmogs is is simply the best choice for that. Since you only want to pick the fights you win where combat stats are not as importnat as in the traditional SoloQ fights where you pick every fight. There you need as much combat stats as you can get.

The tradeoff is that if you get HP without resistances, it will melt like butter.

TotalJerk1 votes

In the early game it doesn't. The item can be rushed and resistances can be bought later. On top of that the fact that items like Stoneplate and Locket are meta means that you don't have to worry about investing too much into health.

If the item is rushed, all you get is a lot of health. The passive doesn’t kick in until 2750 total health, so you need multiple items to get that.

Warmog’s rushes are why liandry’s was designed the way it is.

TotalJerk1 votes

Tanks have enough base health to get it second and hit 2750 no problem.

Iota Theta1 votes

Depends on their first item, but usually it’s their third item if that.

LCS vs not LCS are different things.
