I dont play Aatrox at all but i believe the problem is everyone building him the same as before

Riot changed him the problem at hand is that all these mains dont see that he is just not the same champion anymore. Best way to put it is that Riot changed his genetic DNA not literally but it is in the same room of the idea im talking about.

Im not gonna go into detail of the changes but basically you have to build him entirely different now hes basically an off tank now NOT a bruiser but an off tank. Fighter was his first role but now he has more tank attributes now and benefits more from tank items than actual DPS , lifesteal items.

As i said before every single Aatrox player is building him the same as before perhaps some dont understand the actual changes with what Riot was doing with him and i bet you an elemental lux skin that NOBODY perhaps only a few have grasped at what Aatrox is now in theory.

You gotta take rework Aatrox as a completely new champion you have to erase idea of how you USED to build him because his genetic make up has changed. My theory?

item 3748 < ---- Probably the item you SHOULD be rushing on him now. Dont bother with item 3153 or any other item like this he is NOT a glass cannon any more.

After hydra my best guess is to go full on tank with CDR because CDR im assuming would help you fill the passive faster yes?

Now the hydra provides you with okay damage it deals damage based off of your max health so you want more HP to deal more dmg so after hydra just go full tank maybe take item 3026 as a 3rd or 4th item.

The entire kit changes make him more CDR reliant yes? so perhaps you need 10% CDR in blues , HP yellows , and armor reds. As for quints i am not sure.. but i would refrain from adding any damage or attack speed in his runes remember his genetic make up is different now.

item 3748 item 3065 item 3068 <---- probably core now take visage or sunfire in pick order situationally in match-ups

follow by a 4th item choice (situational choice) item 3026 item 3053 item 3025 pick one

item 3071 <---- also consider. Might seem a off item on him but it provides great CDR and HP and armor shred.

His purpose is different now in theory its not to be this skirmisher that picks people off but rather to dive in and waste everyone's time trying to kill you. Hes more of a team fighting champion now. Think how Garen Gnar performs in a fight. They both deal damage over time but provide peel and can get into the fray without getting insta bursted.

As the title says i dont play Aatrox at all but i read the rework changes and watched scarra's and LS's patch note reviews where they discussed the changes done to him. Maybe he needs some buffs who knows? everyone decided to jump in queue and play him the same as before despite all the changes when they saw it not working they gave up and got pissed at Riot naturally his new true build could be him in an actuality of an balanced state but nobody will see that and continue to tunnel down on they're own old visions of him. So lets just say OP.GG isn't a good representation of his winrate right now. Remember its a HIVE mind people copy other people and most people dont bother to look in how champions work and study them and experiment they just copy what they see and speak on what other people say.

Riot is at fault here due to not addressing that Aatrox has changed he is not the same and itemization effects him much differently now. They assumed the player base to know all that from **reading **the patch notes. Maybe he needs buffs? or an individual to come forward with a new perfect standardized build for him? idk all i know hes different now and Riot didn't provide a lot of answers.

I tried very tanky stuff and it didn't work. You have the right idea though. The point is to try something new because he basically is a new champion now.

People WANT to build him the same way as before because that is how people feel like Aatrox should be played: a lifestealing draintank that attacks very fast. No one wants this build item 3748 into full tank for tons of damage bullshit, because that is boring.

"a lifestealing draintank that attacks very fast"

aka an absolute balance mess that will always be either too weak or too oppressive.

The Deckowner1 votes

Hey blame Rito for making that kit, don't blame the people who played aatrox many years for liking that kit.

Kubox1 votes

I'm not blaming those people, but the fact of the matter is that Aatrox will never be a healthy champion should he keep that playstyle, which means that the only options for Riot is to either keep him excessively weak or rework him into something different.

The Deckowner1 votes

look at new ww, literally the drain tank that heals a ton and hits very fast.

Kubox1 votes

So .... You use Warwick, a champion who uses the very Hydra --> Full tank build you complained about, as an example for "a lifestealing draintank that attacks very fast", but Aatrox going the same build does not fit that bill?

The Deckowner1 votes

Because WW actually have a consistant attackspeed seriod, Aatrox gets a <5 second attackspeed steroid that require him to use 5 ability in combat that is also much weaker than his previous passive attackspeed seroid. Not to mention his healing from W is significantly nerfed, and he has no other form of healing other than it, WW got heal from passive Q and R.

This. I don't want him to be a Juggernaut that auto attacks for no damage and occasionally CCs someone with Q. That shit is boring and not interesting. It was boring before and it's boring now. If that is the direction that Riot are pushing him to then I'll likely just stop playing him, which is sad because he was one of my favorite champions. Too bad I can't refund all my Aatrox skins.

wrong wrong wrong, go play it yourself and then base your opinion

Ive tested games builds, hell even support full tank aatrox. spent hours in practice mode. the new aatrox is just bad.

ive never gone glass cannon on aatrox ive always built kinda a bruiserish build with BC botrk visage deadmans ect... the problem is now is his bad lanes got worse and his good lanes got worse. he has 0 early game potential that its kinda sad.. now if he can make it to mid-late game hes fine. but this rework caused all of his matchups to get worse. his E change fucked him in a malphite matchup so now he cant even break malphs shield with his E and he cant sustain back up from malphs Q poke. overall its just another failed rework. they completely took him in the wrong direction and i hope they do him justice in the full rework with the diver update

Bork is pretty much needed, or at least some form of attack speed else that W is gonna be procing very little. It also helps stack up your passive faster, letting you be ready for a fight faster. I guess a PD second item could substitute, though.

CDR would not help you fill the passive faster. You know why? Because you can't cast Q's just to fill your passive. That would be wasting your only hard CC cooldown. However, CDR would still help with getting more hard CC, however, Aatrox Q is unreliable as hell, and if canceled, the only thing you did was waste time. Also, the passive stays active as long as you are in combat with a champion, so after you go in, you don't need to worry about filling it again. Assuming you can stick.

Frozen Fist is a bad idea, he has no mana remember? Get a DMP, Sunfires, or Randuins instead. DMP fills the role of slow and damage, Sunfires gives waveclear (but you already have Hydra).

Think Cleaver would be too squishy, might consider if needing damage, though. But Bork would be better, more heals, lifesteal, stick, and more damage.

What I would like changed is how his passive refreshes when he's in combat. This means it's much harder to play around, because you can't go in just as it's ending, you gotta actually wait for it to run out. It also means he gets it permanently in a teamfight, and it's too good of a boost to his damage for that, in my opinion. If it was made weaker, it could be made easier to trigger and easier to control, as well as less powerful in a sustained fight and better for the trading of laning phase. It would also let you activate it the moment you dive in, so you don't have to waste 2-3 seconds tanking up damage, using your W for damage instead of heals, to fill the Blood Well. Right now, you'll probably hit 2 people with your ult, then you'll proc your passive instantly and get the 'window of power and weakness' for the entire fight.

Instead, his ult should be a way to fill/refresh his Blood Well instantly (also I would not be against removing his revive), so he can space it out with abilities, decide when to use it for burst and when to use it for optimal DPS.

What if he goes jungle? do the changes make him more of a jungler now than a top laner? It takes away his bad match ups and you can fill your passive without worrying about wasting CC like you mentioned about his laning.

I agree for the most part. I still think BotRK is still good on him (maybe just because it's a really good first item on any auto-attacker right now). Maybe not for every game, but it's still his best first item if he can afford to not be tanky for a while (i.e. in winning lane match-ups).

Also Sunfire is meh on him. There are much better ways for him to get armor and damage; I'd rather build Deadman's Plate, Ninja Tabi, Black Cleaver (not necessarily in that order). Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure Sunfire is only good on pure tanks with shitty damage scaling who want more damage because otherwise they are ignored in fights.

I do still recommend bork but maybe as second item or till you got some defensive stats going i only have a good idea have how his first 3 - 4 should be the last items remain a mystery to me.

I could easily see cleaver & botrk, sterakss, titanic and tank being a decent build with something like all attackspeed runes. deaths dance could also be alright.

Earl Eulrich1 votes

yea he works better as a "tank" now

no, there´s absolutly no reason at all to pick him as a "tank", he gets outperfromed by every other pick of that category.

DunkinNoobs1 votes

It's part of the problem. A bigger part is that people are still trying to play him jungle when the rework completely dumpstered his ability to do so. He's a top laner now, pure and simple.

Attackspeed is good him to stack passive CDR is good too to stack passive

He can now heal 5% missing health i believe and revive with 30% health so he does have some hp scaling The healing gets stronger by having more resistances so those help too

He also has more ad scaling to compensate for the removal of the ap scaling

what about item 3006 item 3748 item 3812 item 3071 item 3065 item 3068

gives max cdr a chunk of attackspeed some resistances even the bleed passive from DD to be stronger vs burst Plenty of AD and some aoe armorshred for utility

Runes can be anything you want, i would probably take scaling armor/mr and then grab more attackspeed in reds and quints

Masteries will be personal preference you can go offense with fervor/warlords or take TLD or maybe grab grasp or cotc
