Let's brainstorm ideas: item slots are too constraining cannot spend 1.5k gold

if your build does not add up to 14000 gold and you have 1k to 1.5 k worth of gold your sitting on you should be able to spend it.

its particularly annoying for bruisers who need mr, armor and damage.

Or if you wish to build two offensive items simultaneously because they synergize.

enemy has a leblanc, I'm front line if I dont have mr I get blown up. ADC is fed I need randuins.

item 1403 item 3211 item 3111 item 3143 item 3044 item 3153 . Alright well say this is my build on Xin zhao. trying to complete triforce would cost 2550 gold. Even being able to sit on item 1027 would go a long way.

If the solution is to complete trinity early on. I think this is a bad solution because it limits my option of building in response to how the game is shaping out. My team can report me for not fulfilling my front line duties and building pure damage. Especially for someone like XinZhao who cannot escape as easily as say LeeSin .

Maybe a temporary carrying slot could work. Or have it such that every item can be upgraded in chunks lesser than = to 1.3k gold

This is actually one of the balancing levers Riot uses, because it helps them manage power spikes. There is a reason they made it so armor, HP, and MR items have pretty incremental build paths-- item 1033 + 270g = item 1057, item 1029 + 500g = item 1031 , item 1028 +600g = item 1011 . You don't have to sit on a lot of gold, and if you are losing lane, it is easier for you to CS that extra 270 or 500g to buy the upgrade.

This smooths out defensive stat curves. On the other hand, a lot of high-value AP and AD items have very expensive components and/or combine costs, which is meant to delay their power spikes, because they give a lot of power once completed. Triforce, Infinity Edge, and Rabadon's are very powerful compared to their components.

Slot efficiency works the same way, encouraging you to upgrade items rather than sitting on several of the cheap base components.

The incentive to complete an item speaks for itself you don't need slots to encourage you.

I think the slot mechanism is there to set cap on builds for late game. And to prevent say always chugging potions.

I'm not asking to give us the powerspikes the final item gives earlier, I'd just like to be able to buy a basic component if I have a lot of gold to spend. the items powerspike completion would still be delayed.

An idea for that matter: let us 'buy' the blueprint of an item to fill a slot, and when we can built components for it directly on the recept without needing aditional item slots.

So for example, you want trinity, you buy the blueprint of trinity(maybe fior it's combine costs or just for free) and then you have a trinty blueprint that on it's own does nothing in your inventory. Then you can buy the components of trinty and they get forged into the blueprint rather than occupying another item slot. So lets say you bout sheen and a ruby crystal, then the trinty blueprint would give waht a sheen gives you+150hp from the crystal without haveing a sheen and a crystal cluttering up your inventory.

I never have an issue with it and I don't recommend this change.

Item slots are there for a reason. If you don't have the space, suck it up and save.

How about if we had fully refundable items that only gave raw stats.

Could have one for AD one for AP one for with dual resistance or HP.

Same UNIQUE passive: something like

Shopper's Delight: satisfaction guaranteed or your money back no questions asked.

You could buy 2500 gold worth.

Say the last item you want to buy is guardian angel, you would buy the dual resistance version.

You could only buy one of these items. Otherwise since they are refundable you would have like a shaco going around switching their build from full ad to full AP lol.

The single 2500g item would be as cost effective as say giant belt or BF sword. First purchase might cost 1000 then 1800 then 2500.
