I admit now I was wrong.

Not that any of you would remember but a lot of my posts here have been complaints about how broken Fizz is. This largely stemmed from the fact that I have never been able to win lane against Fizz with my main and best champ, Azir. I've beaten just about every popular mid-laner with Azir, even all the usual suspects like Zed and Talon who counter him hard. But I've never ever been able to win lane against a Fizz. Never...until now.

Many people told me that Azir counters Fizz and I never believed them. I ALWAYS FED whenever I go up against him. As of this post, my last ranked game was Me on Azir vs a Fizz mid lane and I not only won lane. I totally ass raped him going 7-0 on him, something I never ever thought I'd be able to do.

The purpose of this is to help other people understand how I overcame this so maybe it helps you too. The advice is simple. Play the champs that give you trouble in lane. Last week, Fizz was on the free week rotation and I decided to give him a try. Turns out, I actually liked playing him a lot. He is my kind of champ, a mobile, high damage champion. Anyways, I played him up to level 3. Carried some games with him, failed hard most games but I learned him and how his kit works. When I started playing him, I thought I would steamroll my way through Bronze with him. Didn't happen. Fizz has a great number of glaring weaknesses that were not obvious to me before playing him. Now that I know his weaknesses, laning against him was quite easy to be honest. Before this, it was completely and utterly impossible to trade without dying to him.

So there it is. If a champion is giving you grief. Don't come here like I did to complain about how broken they are. Play that champ a few games. 30 games might be a good number to get a firm grip on his basics and when next you lane against him, I promise, it would be much easier. I don't guarantee you'll get fed always or not feed yourself, but at least you would be secure in the knowledge that you know why you lost, that I guarantee.

Lastly for anyone curious about what I do differently now when I go up against Fizz with Azir. My laning style with Azir is very agressive. I poke people down and attempt an all in when they are low enough where I can combo and ignite to kill. I tried this many time vs Fizz and he would always use his E to escape my damage and turn on my while my abilities were on cooldown and kill me easily. What I do now is feign aggressiveness in order to bait out his E and since I now know the range of his Q and the fact that its targeted by playing him myself, I avoid his follow up Q by maintaining a distance, I get in an extra poke and then I all-in while he is retreating. Without his E, he can never escape my damage. Also, I learned from playing him, that his damage is pretty shit without spellblade items. So if I see him building something other than Sheen, I know with full confidence, I can out damage him in trades always as long as I commit while his E is on cooldown.

Thank you for learning and growing. Keep it up and you will get your self out of bronze, as many players there refuse to accept its anything other then teammates, bad luck, or Riot holding them back.

glad you tried a champ you thought was op, and actually learned about him. would be nice if others did this with other champs they think are too strong. sometimes champs are too strong like malz is right now, but most of the time, it's people just not knowing how to fight the champ.

To be fair though, it can be a bit expensive. Takes time to get enough IP for the champs that give headaches. Even worse, you may not enjoy them. Veigar is an example for me. I only bought him because I got wrecked hard by him once and wanted to try him to see how he plays. I only played 2 games with him, didn't enjoy playing him at all. He doesn't suit my playstyle at all but thankfully 2 games was enough for me to understand his weaknesses. His abilities are very slow and his most dangerous ability(the cage stun thing) has a very high cooldown. Without that cage, he is not hitting you with anything. Never lost to a Veigar again.
