Top lane still exists?

I don't understand how this lane still remains relevant. The only purpose of the lane is to get fed and then carry. But the tactic to always win the game is just do nothing and the enemy will commit actual suicide from boredem. I know riot tries to make the lane fun by creating irelia and then reworking her like a bunch of fucking morons thinking we wouldn't keep her on permaban because the pros don't do it. Top lane is just a powerhungry champ who usually gets fed because our top laner was dumb enough to actually fight him rather than do nothing and afk in fountain so we get a free 4v5 win.
