I'd like to correct a misconception about the Blitzcrank changes. (@Riot, please)

#Blitzcrank Blitzcrank

  • Overdrive (W) has received several changes:
  • Duration reduced to 5 seconds from 8 seconds.
  • Movement Speed % increased to 70/75/80/85/90% from 16/20/24/28/32%.
  • Movement Speed bonus now decays over the duration of the buff.

I want to address the misconception that this move speed bonus decays over the entire duration of the buff, which lasts 5 seconds.

This is, in fact, not the case. Because when you have Mobility boots (the fastest among fast shoes), the true nature of the decay is that it decays over the first 2.5 seconds of the buff, and for the second 2.5 seconds of the W "buff" you have a total of +2-4 move speed (Read: 1/8 of the MS bonus of tier 1 boots).

In other words, this is not a 3 second change to W from 8 seconds to 5 seconds. This is a 5.5 second change from 8 seconds to 2.5 seconds (AS is maintained for a full 5 seconds).

Riot, I personally don't mind the change as a whole, at least the direction, to his W. It makes sense. And Blitz is a strong pick, so giving him a tradeoff for using his W is okay with me. But the decay honestly needs to have a much, much less steep curve, in my opinion. Having a burst of speed is fine, but taking it down to a lowly 2.5 seconds total (let's face it; +2-4 MS is absolutely nothing) is a bit harsh for my man Blitz.

As always, I take changes with a grain of salt as I know they don't always pan out the way they are first perceived and often perform completely different on live servers (see: Ahri), but I am a little sad that his move speed duration on his W has been nerfed by nearly 70%.

It's hard to feel bad for Blitzcrank.

The current average Overdrive scenario is as follow: Blitzcrank presses W then goes "look at how many fasts I can go!" while running around like an idiot for a couple seconds. He doesn't have to commit to a hook, he doesn't have to do anything! But you have to respect it.

I don't disagree. And the slow is perfectly fine by me. What I DO care about is the extremity of the nerf to the duration of the move speed buff. I'm fine with the decaying move speed, but for the love of all that is holy, make the decay actually decay over the full five seconds and not decay for half of that time then stagnate until the full 5 seconds ends.

Wonder how fast he'll go with item 3117 item 3800 item 3069

Also, does item 3009 reduce the Overdrive slow?

I like the change. Makes the skill feel like it requires more timing and thought than just hitting it every time its off cooldown.

It also looks like its less worth leveling. Can get lower cooldown on power fist instead maybe.

Plus, combined with item 3069, you're gonna be fast when it counts. Or you can void the slow with it.

Personally I think the changes are fucked in the head and riot's balance team needs to lay off the drugs but what would I know, I've only played about nine hundred or so games as him, so my knowledge is pretty limited.

it really hurts his bruiser solo laning due to the duration decrease, although I'm one of the few people who still play him solo lane...

I agree. His W was strong before, and the slow is okay, but having the movement speed decrease so rapidly is gonna hurt him a lot. Also, there are diminishing returns for movement speed, 90% looks like a lot, but in fact, when you got mobos (and movement speed runes/masteries) his speed is already above the diminishing return limit so out of that 90% movement speed, it's not gonna be nearly as much of an increase as you might think.

I wonder if he even covers more distance with W now, the slow might actually slow him down more than the speed you get from W.

I think they will change it slightly until the patch.
