The problem with tank mains, and this is strictly my opinion, is they want to be tanky yet still dish out the damage. A tank in any game is there to soak up damage, in LoL they are there to soak up damage and disrupt the enemy team and peel when possible, unfortunately most players need to have that big number at the front of their KDA to feel special about themselves.
A good beefy tank can really make a team comp great, hell I was watching a challenger game last night with an enemy Zac who built straight tank and because he was constantly flinging himself into the enemy backline his team dominated every team fight because their Poppy went damage and never landed an ult against him.
Tldr, tanks are awesome when played right.
I will not lie that at least in the early game I want my damage to be respected and that usually leads to hurting glass cannon squishies late game because they have no resistances.
But no, we don't want to do a bunch of damage. We do want to hurt people as we lock them down, but we do not want to reach carry level damage.
We prefer durability over damage. We're fine with "just enough" damage.
