Just wondering, since they seem to fill a very similar role. Both have a permaslow Q, are extremely tanky, and soften up the enemy team for the allied team to take out. My guess as to why Olaf is preferred is his ult -- the Mundo ult for survivability is probably deemed unnecessary, while Olaf's ult gives him a new, very powerful asset.
Eedat3 votesNo. The point of Olaf is that he can't be CCed. They then partner him up with speed ups to make him an unstoppable bruiser. Mundo can't fill that same role.
ValyrianBlade2 votesI think Olaf was popular at worlds because he's exceptional against a lot of the strong champions right now. Zyra support hates him. Syndra mid hates him. Ryze mid hates him. Most of the popular champions at worlds were squishy damage dealers that bring CC to keep themselves safe from fighters. Olaf wrecks that.

Have you jungled as olaf with blue buff and cdr runes? Not only you look batshit retarded (even by mundo terms) by chucking your axe in the wall directly in front of you in every 2 seconds, the cleartime is just totally superior.
WaffleDealer1 votesOlaf just has a very strong kit which you cannot say about Mundo, Olaf benefits from going low in the jungle (passive + w) which makes or breaks him. If you can utilize it well you can clear as fast or faster (slower isn't possible) than the enemy jungler. If you can't, you'll lose the speed.
The Q and E are very strong for dealing damage, one being a slow and the other being true damage.
The W and ult are a perfect combo to survive in any team fight, w gives a lot of lifesteal and the ult makes sure your heals won't get interrupted by a stun or something like that.
Mundo doesn't have all these strong things. No true damage, only minimum. You use your health as mana, which makes jungling pretty difficult in the early. W doesn't really help, if you get stunned even for a second in pro play you may be caught out way too hard to get out. Ult isn't instant as lifesteal is, this means he can still be bursted down very easily.
Erockandroll1 votesNot likely. The real trick that the pro's use Olaf for is his combination Ragnarok, and Ghost. With those spells, Olaf is able to speed his way into the back line. (or more often flank them from the side) and Whale on what ever target he want's to, and you really can't peel him off because of the CC immunity.
Even thou both Olaf and Mundo are Juggernauts. (And can even both Jungle) They hold entirely different niches.

MunchCrunchLunch1 votesno because they will just cc mundo and kill him . the point of olaf is killing enemies before they kill him. mundo can't do that against any organized play because they can cc him and kite backwards. you can't do that with a 700 movespeed olaf.

He was mainly chosen because of CC immunity so he could secure and objective without being CC'd in the process or steal and objective. That's about it.
