You know the whole champ select/auto fill wouldn't be a problem...
If support wasn't a terrible role to play.
Think about it:
Everyone hated to be last pick in the old system because it meant they will be pretty much support.
Everyone hates being autofilled in the new system (witch basically means support).
Of course if you are not autofilled as support you are than as ADC (another role that requires you to play with another player)
It does not matter if the support items are op or the supports themselves are op, NO ONE wants to be a caretaker and for ADC no one wants to rely on someone else, but they pretty much have to in order to function.
Proof of this was 
at his prime, when he was the most played champion with a decent win rate. He was OP, overloaded, fun to play, playmaking potential etc etc. AND STILL PEOPLE DID NOT want to support, he was just the "go to support" back in the day that had it all so at least it was not as boring, but even that got old after a while.
And i have no idea how it can be fixed: Only 4 players? That's lame. 4 solo lanes? That sounds terrible!
