It's a legendary sword. It is named after the Baron to liken its strength to his.

And stinger is the cheap replica of it.

Sona Ping3 votes

I was more thinking along the lines that the Stinger is refined and made into Nashor's tooth but I like that .

It being a knockoff also explains why it's becoming a cheapo replacement part for zeals.

Teemo "Got teeth? Then you've got a weapon".

^ This line implies the weapon actually is a tooth, not a sword.

DeathBot6661 votes

But this line is from teemo. Therefore its a lie.

Although couldn't someone have taken a tooth from baron and made it IN to a sword?

Knoyle2 votes

It should look tooth like then.

SSJTribe1 votes

Ekko 's Line is "aaaand now I'm fighting with teeth" or "That is one big tooth".

"Size doesn't mean everything" - quite; not everyone got teeth large and sharp enough to wield as a weapon.

I'd like to think Baron Nashor's got teeth sufficiently large and sharp to allow for the shaping of them into a weapon, if one would be as lucky, stupid or brave to actually be able to obtain one. However, I think the icon being golden is rather a cliché.

Fair enough, it's a difference between biting teeth and a tooth large enough to wield as a one- or two-handed sword. ^^ Both can puncture skin and cause fatal damage.

"Dat throat [ Tristana ]...yummy". ~ Teemo

Or it could be, you know, him making a pun. I get the impression that some Riot employees like those.

It's a sword with a figurative name. This item 3101 is not literally a stinger, this item 3285 is not an echo, and this item 3036 is not a thank-you note addressed from a certain lord of the lands.

Just like many other items

item 3033 how does this remind us that one is mortal?

item 3142 how is this a GHOST blade? (spoooooky?!)

item 3812 how is this a dance with death?

item 3085 how is this a hurricane?!

It's just like the "logic" behind some of the creation of items could be questioned too... Is item 1058+item 1026+item 1052 = item 3089 really showing us MAGIC?

AetherPhoenix2 votes

I cannot answer all of these questions but I can answer 2: item 3033 : When you are healing up your wounds so fast that you aren't really taking damage, it reminds you that you are still mortal (by massively reducing healing) and that you can be killed. item 3812 : You are pretty much 'dancing' around death, what with the passive combined with the lifesteal/spellvamp, allowing you to save yourself from death while coming very close to it.

  1. Mortal Reminder seems more like a silver bolt reference to vampires (drain tanks, lol) in the sense that you essentially cut off their supply and they become, well, mortal again.

  2. This is a reference to the Touhou Project, IIRC. I think it was Konpaku Youmu's sword or something like that. Considering she (i think) was half-phantom or whatever it was (i'm so butchering this by now) that would be the reference.

  3. Yeah, the lifesteal + spell vamp + the fact that I could only assume the blade leeches some of the damage you take over time (essentially dancing with death since your fucking blade interacts with it, that's some like death knight from wow level shit)

  4. HURRICANE OF SHOTS BABY THATS HOW IT FEELS TO PLAY AGAINST ASHE WITH HURRICANE WHEN SHE MELTS YOUR ENTIRE TEAM WITH THREE TORNADOES OF INSANE ARROWS OH BABY

and there are many a tale of magic weapons forged from Teeth/Scales of mighty beasts. >.>

It doesn't have to look like a tooth. Many sword have they names related to the beast they came from, without having to "look" like it. It doesn't change the factthat a icon update isn't necessary.

C9 Squeeky 3 votes

Every item that has sword/blade in their name, looks like a sword. Why shouldn't Nashor's Tooth look like Baron Nashor's Tooth??

SithesisLord10 votes

Because it IS Baron Nashor's tooth, clipped and cut to look like a sword.

It´s the same as asking why does item 3031 even has edges.

Or asking why isn´t item 3085 an actual hurricane.

C9 Squeeky 1 votes

um no, it is a recolored Stinger, not his tooth.

TahmKench Expert8 votes

It's actually a recolor of the Stinger. They know what they did.

PaladinNO6 votes

Who says it's just a tooth, and not a tooth that's been shaped, sharpened and added a handle to? ;)

Captain Aishi4 votes

I vote for them to visually update baron to have golden swords as teeth instead!

Sukishoo1 votes

YES PLEASE! Lol.

bistroh2 votes

Ever considered it's the barons tooth shaped into a sword?

Knoyle4 votes

It should look like a baron themed blade then.

CasterGilgamesh2 votes

to be fair its just a name it doesn't actually have to be a tooth havent you seen lord of the rings?Where bilbo bagins had stinger? it wasnt a real stinger it was just a short dagger that he could hold. then again im not referencing the new Hobit movies more of the old animated movie http://musingsfromus.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/The-Hobbit-TV-1977-DVD-Cover.jpg

I rather have the agro of elder dragon fixed than changing an icon

FantasySniper1 votes

Make it look like the Ivory Straight Sword from Dark Souls. But bigger.

Akali is SO HOT1 votes

I've been playing since season 3 and only today have I realized that Nashor was referring to Baron Nashor and not just some random ass name Riot created for an item like I thought.

OP actually makes a good point.... +1
