@Riot: For future reference if you change Summoner's Rift for an event make it a toggle option

While it might be a good idea, right now that isn't an option because it isn't a skin over the map, it's a new map.

Is it an entirely new map? I thought the normal Summoner's Rift is also changed.

I don't mean like that, it's the same map, but what is displayed is brand new textures/art/etc. instead of a skin overlayed on top to look different.

It might still be possible but it brings a lot of other issues into the fray. For example a lot of abilities get colour/border colour changes on them so they don't blend in (Atlantean Syndra had darker blue orbs for the winter rift for example) So if there was a toggle option it would also have to toggle all of those abilities back to their normal iterations. That burns up a lot of processing power on a map like summoner's rift too so Slow computers may feel the impact and connects might run slower if different people in the same game are running different versions.

So it is possible and not even overly hard to set up, the issue is that it can lead to a whole host of other problems as well as it opens the table up to a ton of new bugs.

This is not how skins work. Skins are not overlaid over another skin, and they don't sit on top of another texture. A skin replaces the texture. The 3d Model stays the same , the texture applied to it changes.

Tbh I don't know if they have a second map for this event and another one for the winter event, or if they all are just textures applied to the standard 3D model of the map. But i highly doubt they are separate models, because that would mean they have multiple models for a map, and map changes would affect more than 1 copy, which is a nightmare to maintain.

The problem is the fact that there's no 3D model for the entire map.

If I remember correctly, they said that every new "map skin" is like a "painting" and made completely from scratch.

Well, obviously there are many models that put together, make up the map. There are turrets, inhibitors, cores, then the actual ground it all stands on, monsters, etc.

But that doesn't really matter. And it's not a problem. You take all these models, and create new textures for them. The real problem is just if something structural happens on the map. Then all skins that can possibly be applied to it, or that part, won't work any more, and need to be updated. e.g. a new jungle camp, an extra bush, etc.

So yes, the textures are certainly made separately every time, but the models are not created from scratch for every map skin.

considering you can use a 3rd party app to change the map (and I bet that after this event is over, I'll find the map somewhere for permanent use) I'm pretty sure it's easy to make it optional

She means in terms of coding. Mechanically they're the same thing, but the codes aren't set up to allow such things. It could be changed, of course, but it won't be a quick fix.

pls keep in mind that youre part of an incredibly rare minority.

so while its understandable that it might be frustrating to you, try to sound less entitled. because you cant blame game developers for not keeping less than 5% of the population in mind at every step of their work.

they try to keep options for the colorblind, but sometimes it happens that youre being overlooked. its not wrong to ask, but its not right to expect to always have people think of these issues when making skins or texture designs for a game.

Releasing the snowdown map like that was overlooking. Releasing bloodmoon in the same state within a couple of months after people pointed out this problem with snowdown is just straight up ignoring.

if they were ignoring you, they wouldnt have bothered with adding the color blind mode to the game in the first place.
