Twisted Treelines players should be worried.

Guess where all those bots are going to go?

Don't worry. After they eventually shut down TTL too, bots will come over to Summoner's RIft and then Riot might actually do something since it's the only game mode they give a shit about.

Doctor Dyment34 votes

Eh, I'm not sure. Twisted Treeline actually has its own ranked system. Probably aren't going to remove it any time soon.

TendajiX35 votes

Still salty there is no champ mastery on TT

Radioactive Man5 votes

They'll probably add it now, they had to have known Dominion was dying for a while and adding mastery to TT would raise questions as to why it wasn't going to Dominion.

Except ranked Twisted Treeline is gone in yolo, so no, there's not a 'ranked' system really

Exactly how tough are these bots? We talking Beginner to Intermediate AI levels, or outright impossible to cope with?

HighH19 votes

Beginner or lower AI,easy to defeat but that doesn't mean they won't be on your team. People use em to farm TT and get free ip without having to play

VentusDragoon8 votes

TT bots are pretty pathetic. As in "walks forward until it runs into something and just sits there autoing--even if that something is the turret" pathetic.

ManiacalCoyote5 votes

fucking farmbots. Imagine an idiot charging down a lane at random, and running into the enemy turret.

worse.

RasCaelestis6 votes

Worse, based on what I saw on the Crystal Scar. I haven't seen a bot on Twisted Treeline, since I don't play that much, but I saw a lot of them on Dominion. They'd run to the points, cap them, then stand slightly off to the side. They'd not move from that position, but would sometimes attack you if you got close. I'd say that even Beginner AI on Summoner's Rift is harder to fight than these things.

There were even a few games where I was the only human player... Note the pattern in their names. That's one of the easiest signs of a bot. The summoner spells too, but those might be different on TT. They also tend to stick to Free-to-Play champions. These screenshots were taken on the same day, and most of those champions were on rotation that week.

Eventually they'll have to remove SR as they won't have a playerbase after they keep finding ways to crap on their fans. And then they won't have a game.

Yeah totally, just like every other game that's managed to make it that huge before them. After all WoW is totally barren, CoD doesn't sell at all, EA Sports games never make a profit!

Riot removing one thing that a tiny, tiny, tiny fraction of the playerbase ever sees sober is totally gonna lose them everything! After all it was all Dominion that made them 1.6 Billion last year!

ARGH RAGING FOR NO REASON! ARGH!

Tahngarthor10 votes

It's called hyperbole (and slippery slope). you say we're raging for no reason, but they're removing dom for no reason. they cite cost, but I've seen no evidence that riot is hurting so much fincancially that they need to cut stuff to stay afloat.

Ariel the Cruel22 votes

Dominion still has a technical cost. Whether they can afford it or not is irrelevant.

Personally, I'm more annoyed about how they said supporting it was wasting resources. Then turned around and admitted they used all the dominion resources to double down on SR.

What? Just. what?

Tahngarthor7 votes

there is a technical cost yes, but that technical cost mostly scales with how much a mode is played (bandwidth/server costs). There are other costs like ensuring every new champion has a capture point animation but that's a rather low cost. I do agree with you about what you said, however.

Still, removing something just because it's not popular is stupid. Why hasn't Urgot b een removed from the game yet?

Skarner That's not limited to dominion any more.

Because people can pay real money for Urgot.

You can't put any of your money into Dominion.

Removal of Urgot would force them to refund every player that bought him, either with IP or RP based on what was used. They'd lose a lot more by removing Urgot, where they save with Dominion.

It sucks to lose the game mode, but the popularity was so low it was costing them money to keep it going. Look at it from a business point of view. You can afford to keep shipping it out, but is it worth it if you could make more by just not?

And don't say that it costs little because not that many people play it. They have to run each map with the power for everyone in the chance that suddenly a bunch of people swap over to it.

Poor logic because you can't pay money for SR either, yet they're keeping that. Prove to me that people who played Dominion were any less likely to give Riot any money than any other player.

And from that business perspective you stated, if it's making the people who do play it happy, why lose those customers? The amount of money they make from the entire playerbase far more than covers the cost of running dominion. And if it doesn't then SR players should be worried because that would mean Riot is in dire financial straits.

Jari3 votes

SR is a bad example, as there is a LOT more people playing SR. They even stated that towards its release it had a small burst and then the players just went back to SR. Removing SR would destroy the game, not save money.

I'm not saying people who played Dominion didn't pay. I'm saying that they've looked into it, seeing what would benefit their costs and resources more, and decided that it's better to drop the support. Yes. It sucks. There were paying people in it too. The problem is that the game mode is quite unpopular compared to the other modes and they feel as though it's better to just better to close the door.

A way to put it is this. Dominion is good, but Dominion is NOT league of legends. It's a different objective and a way different map. It doesn't feel like League of Legends.

Remember what I said before as well. They can't just set it up to run for 0.5% of the playerbase (Which by the way, that % is counting bot accounts) because they have to go above. A simple way to describe it is this. They have rooms that have the game modes. For every room, they have to pay to keep it running so that people can go in the room.

We have millions of people that can get access to the rooms, and by such riot HAS to set up enough rooms for them, because otherwise they might fill up the rooms and people can get long queue times. What do people here hate with a passion? 30 minute queue times. Do you want your queue times to skyrocket? It'd make it less appealing.

And clearing this up here for you. I am keeping a NEUTRAL stand on this. There are points to keeping it and for removing it. It's more money benefiting to remove it and use the resources somewhere else that people are playing, but there were fun game modes that the players used the map for. I know that Riot doesn't want to take the mode down because it was a good idea, but again it is NOT League of Legends. Who knows, maybe Riot will come up with a different game following the Dominion style. They've learned from this mode with what works and what doesn't.

MetalGearTeemu5 votes

Dominion dried up because riot didn't support it for an extended period, never added ranked etc.

which is a shame because the mode was actually quite fun.

sorry but what? CoD is essentially the same game every time with something new added to spice things up and have people keep buying them. What else are you going to buy if you are a sports fan and don't want wacky things in your sports game but something as close as possible to said sport? tell me another franchise of sports games that are close to the actual thing without the need to add stuff that you will never find IRL. WoW keeps launching new expansions and whatnot every once in a while while keeping things relatively similar... i can't think of anything that it got rid... then again i don't play WoW so i could be wrong.

There is a reason why people keep buying and playing those games. Dominion is being scrapped because Riot couldn't give a damn about it and guess what? they don't give a damn about anything BUT SR. With how things are TT and ARAM are very easily going to be scrapped in the near future since all of the issues that plague Dominion now will go to one of those modes which in turn will have people stop playing those modes and since Riot won't give a damn they'll just wait a little and then come up with a similar excuse just so they can scrap the mode all the while sucking SR's dick. While the rest of the game goes up in flames around them since they can't be bothered to hire new people (although they keep saying how much they are growing every year... NICE JOKE RIOT!) to actually work on the alternate game modes

viken2 votes

The difference is, both of those have actual purpose in the game. TT has a ranked queue, it has a set-in-stone meta, and it has an actual reason to be in the game because of its playerbase. Similar stuff goes for ARAM, heck it even gets featured game modes and events revolve around it, like the Bilgewater event or the Poro King mode. Dominion has NONE of these. In fact, it's a negative to the game because of how overrun it is by bots. It's also not worth the resources to keep updating it and balance it. Balancing dominion could take just as much as it take to balance SR, as it's essentially a different game with the same 129 champions. So pretty much, the only reason dominion has existed for the past few years is because people play hide-and-seek on it. Which is obviously not enough for riot to hire a team and to continue supporting it. It's as simple as that.

and now all those bots are going to go to ARAM and TT and since Riot did not care one bit about them overunning Dominion they will not care about them doing the same to those modes either. Sorry but it doesn't matter, Riot gives no damns about Alternate modes. It's not worth the effort like you said so in 3 years tops i assure you that we will have nothing but SR while the rest might comeback as feature modes at best. It's as simple as that like you said. Enjoy your ARAM and TT while they last, Riot did not bother trying to fix the issues of Dominion and let it get this far out of control and with TT getting an update maybe once a year? it won't look like it will fare any better when bots start going there and ARAM is not that far off either

Ariel the Cruel2 votes

Don't forget, Riot Gated Dominion for new players. So you're never even exposed to it anymore until you're fully inundated into SR.

SunLillie1 votes

I upvoted you. I haven't played for a year yet and everyone said not to play Dominion because Riot would eventually get rid of it and they didn't take care of it. I finally tried it with my brother who does enjoy it but didn't play it much because his friends didn't play it. I really liked it. I tried SR. I really did, but I don't like it. I like Aram and Dominon. So I guess I will keep playing Aram and try TT when Dominion is closed.

viken2 votes

TT and ARAM have enough of a playerbase for riot to care about. They have the resources to pretty much get rid of bots completely. It just depends if those modes are worth enough to Riot for them to maintain them. So tbh, it's up to them. As far as I can tell though, those modes aren't going anywhere.

That's simply not true, and I personally have hundreds of games of dominion under my belt.

Why do people not care about dominion? because it was never properly supported to be a fun exeperience for everyone who played it. People might have cared if they put a true effort forward. It's in the state it's in now because it was deliberately neglected and ignored by Riot, not because nobody ever cared to begin with. I remember seeing quite a bit of excitement about a new mode when it was originally announced. The problem was it didn't live up to expectations, and rather than try to meet those expectations head on by supporting it and updating it, they basically left it to rot instead.

Dominion isn't the only thing I was referring to in my post, either. Note the removal of team builder which also caused a ruckus. Yes, new champ select will eventually step in to take its place, but they failed hardcore by removing it long before NCS would get implemented for blind pick. Just like dominion, it shouldn't be removed until something comes along to replace it.

KaisadiIIa1 votes

That's simply not true

Why do people not care about dominion?

Isn't that contradictory?

I said that most people don't care about dominion. I never said why. I never mentioned they wouldn't even if it was properly supposed or anything. I know people would play a lot more dominion if RIOT put effort on that gamemode instead of leaving it. Don't tell me what I already know.

Team Builder was removed due to different reasons (even though I don't agree with them, and I really miss TB). Team Builder was removed because they wanted to unify queues: TB wasn't viable for ranked and some people didn't like to wait 20 min to play a game, so they made this half-Team builder half-regular queue to try to make everyone happy. But, tbh, it has a lot of major flaws to compensate for Team Builder.

Tahngarthor1 votes

Team Builder's purpose will be superceded by New Champ Select once it's available for Blind Pick mode. But, it should not have been removed until that happened. People liked team builder because it eliminated much of the pregame toxicity, but NCS' design essentially makes Team Builder obsolete, because like Team Builder, players can choose roles and plan things out. The only place where NCS falls short vs team builder is having to choose more than one role, but that's only if you have less than 5 people (Full parties don't have to choose 2 roles)

All I'm saying is they should have waited to remove it until Blind Pick NCS was ready.

I feel like TT is a bit more safer than Dominion, only because it plays very similarly to basic SR (minions pushing towers down multiple lanes towards enemy nexus), and thus does not need a whole lot of extra balancing and maintenance.

Riot should be aware that the bots will try and indeed go towards TT, so hopefully they're also upping their bot-eradication game.

"balancing" if dominion actually got any sort of balancing you might be right but it didn't and maintenance? riot did absolutely nothing for the mode and then when we call out to them they come with the stupid "chicken and egg" thing. I highly doubt they will do anything to the bots once they start infesting TT or ARAM since that would mean they have to take away resources from SR and that's something they won't do at all.

Riot never touched Dominion after it came out. The updates it received was the same TT received: an engine/gfx update. gasp
