What is going on with Riot Games ?

I enjoyed playing Leagued of Legends since second season and still en enjoy it nowadays however the game has some issues !

I have some questions about :

How will riot keep the game balanced if they continually create new characters ? Well i'm not agaisnt having 400 characters or even more in one single moba.

However each pre season Riot changes items masteries and adds new mechanics and nowadays we have those issues :

  • Those big changes could be done in the past because there were not this many characters.

  • Changing even a number in an item or even a little mastery has a big impact because it is impossible to predict how 139 champions will react.

  • Because of this the time and effort riot made to balance the game all year long is lost at each pre season.

I think riot has to choose between :

  • Keeping creating new charcters but not altering a lot the gameplay and the items (or making it slowly)

  • Stop creating new characters and recycling gameplay and items

I want to ask something to riot too :

Riot has become one of the biggest gaming company in the world.

Now Riot is a lot richer than in the past, so :

  • Why don't we have new PERMANANT game modes in new maps ?

  • Why don't you make permanant skins for maps and sell them like champion skins ?

  • Why Riot games don't make new games ?

  • Why don't we have any nunu, anivia, malphite, trynda, olaf reworks ? (before making something new finish what you started comon...)

I'm not trying to say do not play LOL or saying that riot has been doing a bad job.

I love this game but i think those questions deserve answers.

I think MOBAs will decline in popularity before riot gets to even 180 champions. They only release 5 or so champions a year, and eight years from now I don't really see MOBAs retaining their huge amount of popularity. At that point I think that riot will start to close down LoL

Nah Tencent will pump as much money as they can until everyone leaves for whatever reason and then they sell it back to Riot and THEN the game can be good again :^)

I think the development of MOBAs has ended up being very similar to that of MMORPGs. Back when World of Warcraft came out, tons of companies jumped on the bandwagon because they thought they could turn out an equally large cash cow. Very quickly, though, they realized that designing a successful MMO required a massive initial investment, and that maintenance costs and structural issues over time would cause many games in the genre to collapse after generating only mediocre revenue. Similarly, after League blew up, many more companies jumped on the MOBA craze, but the vast majority ended up being far too derivative, and those that survived ended up accruing an increasingly large amount of design problems over time. League itself isn't totally immune to this, and has had trouble making all of its champions distinct and viable at the same time. Both League and Riot are still going strong now, and I do personally think they'll be able to last a long while, though I also think it's a little naive to expect an entire company to keep running on the success of just one single product.

i think riot is doing just fine at the moment and i dont like the idea of new permanant maps i think that what you are talking about with the more map thing and i like the constant change in the meta instead of the same gameplay i enjoy adapting to the huge changes as fast and as best i can to get ahead of the rest i disagree with most you say but i get where you are coming from

For the map thing i was talking about reskins like the winter map. But yeah i agree that riot has been doing well because and they are getting bigger.

I don't see league of legends ranking number 1 in 2 years honestly. The competitive nature has already started to decline, the player base will follow.

This game will never truly be balanced, it can't be. Riot only pushes champs in and out of the meta continuously patch after patch, something is strong one patch and is weak after, they're not trying to achieve perfect balance.

So are you saying that New riot is Doing worse than ancient riot in terms of balance ?

Malphite rework would break my heart. I do think they need to do a big do-over on the rune rework though. They create extra work to balance the game when making sloppy changes like that.
