cons:varus is the weakest adc by far compared to the others.... stupid passive low damage low attack speed no self atatck speed buff.... jinx and cait can do what he does only more powerful.....slow movement speed ult has low range, he has low aa range as well. if i missed anything please tell me.
pros. strong scaling and damage on q(negated by the piercing effect. very very strong hybrid adc.

You have to pay for that level of utility.
And before you say "but Ashe..." be aware that I think Ashe needs nerfs.

An instant 2 second root that spreads to nearby champions thereby zoning them.
You're comparing to a 1.5 second snare that takes 0.7 seconds to arm...

you have to abuse his early game to end the game. If you can't do that, play another ADC.

He's definitely reliant on positioning but once you start landing those Q's over and over you'll get used to his overall playstyle which is enaging after all the poke and catching low-health enemies trying to retreat. That doesn't sound like a sexy playstyle but after a while you might find more enjoyment in it. His ult is extremely powerful and is one of the few ADC's that can initiate temfights. You just gotta find the right tempo. Building him as more of a caster than your regular Atk speed / crit style imo is just superior. It plays to his strengths which is mostly in his Q.
His passive might seem a bit weak but it isn't as bad as I used to think it is. If you play him the way I described you don't need to build any actual attack speed besides ghostblade since you'll most likely be getting an assist / kill at the start of the fight. Varus is all about poking / pressuring, teamfighting, and being an opportunist (like a vulture). He's not the best 1v1er but once you're ahead that won't matter so much. Just play safe until you smell blood.

zlumpy1 votesHard to balance a champ that can auto chunk %hp with 3 AA and a cast. Killed many people who underestimated his late game burst and tried to 1v1 him or dive him.
His problem is he is reaallly easy to shut down early game due to low mobility and no good cc unless you fire the slow really early and run. Pair that with a no cc support and he is a sitting duck in bot lane.
Edit obviously pre 6 although I hate using an ult defensively on an adc for most of the casts.

He's not a full DPS champion like Jinx or Cait. All Varus can do is apply as much Blight(W) as possible with his AA. Even 1 or 2 Blight can be painful when procced with his Q, E or R.
slow movement speed ult has low range
The range is medium long unlike Bard's Q, and pretty sure its speed is faster than Morgana's Q itself, or less, the same speed.

khorney1 voteswhen you go ap you tend to build both of these items becuase the w passive does do a lot of damage magic wise. basic asap build would be nashors tooth, hextech, another attack speed item of your choosing(blade of the ruined king,wits end(42 magic damage on hit is liek 300sp by itself for the nashors passive)or the most likely choice being runaans), ap youll clear cs waves quick. boots of your choosing either beserk greaves or cdr boots.lich bane and most likely deathcap or void staff for your last item. this is more or less a standard asap build which works for every champ that has a aa based magic damage liek teemo, tf(get runaans your e will fck people up), orianna, and kog. this does work just hope you have a little peels. i go top with this build because more or less there isnt a lost of top laners htat can dive on you.
varus is simple and brings nothign to the table other adcs cant do better. i rarely see him in any games i play. any adc i see is alwasy luc, jinx, vayne, cait ,and mf
