Can we have a serious discussion about Tryndamere please?

Cloud273··63 votes·8,413 views

I honestly don't think he is healthy for this game. You can crush him in lane, and he can still split push better than any top laner because of his ult, free crit, and heal. He only needs a few items and you're all set, and it only gets worse the more items he gets. I think it's completely absurd that even if you crush him in lane he's still relevant. And you tell us to CC him, but his ult will still go off even when hard cc'd. So please tell me, because clearly I'm a bronze noob who has no idea what I'm doing, how the hell do you deal with a Tryndamere?

its absurd people cry about trynd....he has 1 cc move and it only works if your running away

meanwhile........

riven irelia gnar jax ryze

are all 3 shotting people also, yet they are tanks with hard cc & can split push on anyone BUT also shit on everyone in team fights

BUT lets cry about trynd cuz some noob got bitch smacked around for not knowing how to play top

Ennnnhhh, you can crush a Riven in lane and she'd be a bit behind (Or she afk's like Rivens do). His main complaint was that you can completely beat him in lane yet the sheer amount of map presence he has remains the same.

Tryndamere has a much better winrate than all of them but I wouldn't nerf him just because he's tough to deal with. Until he proves competitive viability, it's probably more likely teams don't play around countering him well.

Lordofthepittt15 votes

Tanks screw him. His ult isn't a problem, since he is so vulnerable to CC and ignites. Sure, he can splitpush. But if your team is smart, then when he starts splitpushing you guys will group as a team and win teamfights because they are down a player. Splitpushing only works if you don't sieze that advantage.

or trynda's team can defend 4v5 under turret with wave clearing and just makes it so trynda can free split. If you send someone there, then your siege is over, and their team had an advantage because the time it takes for one of you to get back to top lane is enough time for trynda to take a turret.

Tanks don't really screw him, unless the tank is fed and trynda isn't, in which case he just runs away with his E and Ult if needed. If you're trying to say tanks screw him in team fights, that would be true, except he doesn't really team fight

Lordofthepittt6 votes

Tanks generally screw him regardless of how fed they are. Build a thornmail against him and watch him kill himself. Its not like Tryndamere is such an amazing champion. He is similiar to Master Yi in a way. Somewhat easy to play and use, but not very hard to beat assuming people know what they are doing in game.

yi and trynda are not that much alike in that regard. Yi actually takes skill to play at a high lvl, trynda is very braindead, only requires some game knowledge and match up experience at most to do well with (unless you jungle, in which more emphasis in knowledge, less in match ups). The difference between a skilled Yi (like cowsep) and those "hurr engage with alpha strike and right click" yi is absurdly higher than that of a tryndamere main and someone who just randomly decides to pick trynda.

And no, tanks don't generally screw him. Some bruisers can work against him, but then again if he randomly crits twice in a roll at lvl 2 it's kinda gg regardless so there's that, but anyways, in a match up where trynda can't outright kill you, he just farms and farms with his free sustain, and if needed (ganked?) just rolls and imortalities away. He'll eventually outscale almost anything. Try and pick a tank, let's say a Rammus, who's verily known as anti-ad, against a tryndamere and rush a thornmail. Proceed to watch him ignore you and kill your wave, while you can't kill minions for shit and just lose a ton of CS and get behind and then die to him when he decides to jump at you with a few items ahead.

A malphite could work I guess, i don't have experience in that match up but I guess with the attack speed slow and the kiting with Q he could do allright, but then again, trynda will just ignore him and split push, malph can't really stop trynda from pushing and eventually goes oom while trynda perma-sustains

That's the only problem I have with Trynd. Hell, I can take Braum top and make his life miserable. That lvl 1 double crit though. I have no way of dealing with it because I have no way of predicting it.

(though I would swear to it Trynd has a hidden passive that buffs his crit chance at low levels.)

Sachabot1 votes

His passive+ crit normalizer. It's basically a hidden passive.

Verxint4 votes

TBH, CC, smart positioning, and kiting screw tryndamere over more than Yi. Yi has slow immunity, gapclose that also can dodge things, meditate, and resets to help him in teamfights. A good Yi player can avoid a lot of damage while delivering assloads back.

Tryndamere just has 5 seconds where he can't die and a short to mid range gapclose and that's it. If your ADC doesn't moronically get close enough to tryn for him to spin behind them, his ult gets blown immediately and he gets kited for 5 seconds.

Orbv3 votes

I actually think that Tryndamere has a comparably decent team fight as master yi. Yes Yi can dodge skills and AoE hit champs with his Alpha Strike, and then be able to use it again if he gets kills, but Tryndamere has a AoE 80 AD reduction, AND 60% slow if anyone is even angled away from him. Idk about some people, but for a lot of people, 80 AD is A LOT of damage to lose for 5 seconds.

Also Tryndamere can soak damage. If he is as dangerous as most say, then the enemy team relies on killing him first. And if your mid is LeBlanc or Zed or Ekko, then a Trynd will be a much bigger burden if he builds regular:

item 3153 item 3087 item 3074 --> He can handle tanks and have AoE damage. He will get reliable damage done, and it doesn't need to be to the back line.

ArkenStorm1 votes

take away that hydra and get a item 3072 and youre fine. I much prefer BT to hydra

Orbv1 votes

But doesn't your waveclear suffer? I mean he's great at it already, but hydra lets him clear in a two seconds.

Downfall2 votes

Depending on which situation it will become you have to act accordingly, most solo queue teams have troubles dealing with him because it's hard to take advantage of the 4v5 situation before it ends up being a stalemate at a turret in said games so more likely than not you'll just send someone top to stop him, and if they can stop him 1 on 1 they're more likely not someone who is invaluable to a teamfight therefore preventing you from 4v4ing. Which is the solo queue tryndamere issue, this is an entirely different situation in 5v5 ranked teams though where people are more coordinated, which is why he will not receive any nerfs. He CAN be dealt with, but without your entire team being on voice chat or being very coordinated as a whole it's much more difficult to do so.

DeynaTaggerung1 votes

Last I checked 80% of the champs in league are vulnerable to CC so what makes it worse for him? So let's say you hard cc him and then follow up by bursting him down. He can then ult(while cc'd), throw down a massive AD reduction and proceed to kill you for getting that close. If you did the same thing to a riven or fiora they would get destroyed. Do it a tryndamere and it's all k.

And as far as us poor adcs there's no hope. You need 5 seconds of hard or strong slowing cc to survive.

Lordofthepittt2 votes

Obviously save your CC for when he ults lol. Why would you CC him when he is at full health knowing that he has his ultimate up? He really isn't a problem. He is a low level pubstomper because people are not familiar enough with the game to know how to beat him. He either gets really fed, and kills and dies quickly or he falls behind and just splitpushes. Neither of which are a real problem.

DeynaTaggerung1 votes

I guess I'm just thinking of it from a mid-late game perspective (as I don't really play top much). You would cc him because he's diving directly at the squishy carry. And if he gets there you're likely screwed. I suppose this is less of an issue if the team can cooperate well. I feel he thrives in chaotic situations. So I guess CC is less his counter than just teamwork.

When someone says a tank beats him, I die alittle bit. I garentee that if you play a decent Tryndamere , a tank will do nothing but delay his death by a couple hits. When i play him and face a few tanks, IE + shiv + LW =no one tanks anything.

Go try that on a tanky nasus/mal/amumu or anyone that completely counters attack speed.

This aint a 1v1 anyways not sure where you get the idea that your gonna be facing tryndamere in 1v1 once he's accumulated that many items. Early on he gets shut down easy as long as you know his kit and your character decently well.

If you can time your cc well, 2 sources of cc will completely shut down a tryn. Tryn probably wont even get more than 2 hits off. He really shouldn't if your team is smart enough.

I die a little everytime someone thinks tryndamere is a problem. Why do you think no one at the top of the rankings mains tryndamere? Thats because he's too squishy for his kit do be useful. adc/ap should be able to burst him down in a few hits by then he pops his ult, then you cc him again and by this time he's trying to run. Easy counter, go try it.

LeeDark3 votes

If Tryn takes Malphite or Amumu away from the teamfights just to deal with his split push, that is also a victory, since neither of those two will actually kill Tryn. Well... maybe if they build full AP and burst him... AND have ignite to finish him off when he ults.

Nasus, sure. A farmed Jax will be able to duel him, too. And Cho works, if you can kill him during your silence.

You aren't gonna baby sit the lane. Read what i just said.

Geez.. people can't read now?

LeeDark2 votes

If you aren't babysitting the lane, he continues his split push. If you try to gank him with multiple people to kill him THEN go teamfight, then his wards should prevent that, and his team should get something while you try to kill him.

Best case scenario, you're depending on him and his team to be stupid by not warding or taking advantage of the multiple people he draws to his lane.

The reason no one mains him in higher levels of play is because he is easily countered by a few specific picks, and you can't afford to just ban out his counters.

Geez, people can't fucking THINK now?

You right, cause nobody makes bad moves on LoL and everyone is pro. They are called smart initiations and timing. They happen all the time otherwise no one would ever win.

It's all about timing. "omg tryn so op" lol. The last time i heard someone complain about tryndamere was in general discussion. That soon died out with clear explanations of why he wasn't a viable pick.

You guys are simple minded. you say " people can't fucking think now? " Haha apparently not, look at you! An idea to your super hard problem is you can go try to 5 gank tryndamere, a lot of times, at this point, his team will attempt to help. Bait the team fight. There ya go, easy solution.

Push the lane tryndamere is obviously going to push. Re-gather, initiate baron/dragon, bait them into a team fight, win. Omg so hard to figure this out!!! lol.

Another thing is send 2 peeps to gank, set the other 3 around areas he'll most likely run to, Kill him. There ya go, another solution. So hard! omgawd! lol.

Now you talk about tryndamere being able to push like NO ONE can stop him or he's some god. What is this a fantasy scenario? Just like him you should have your wards set up. There are 5v1 when trying to trap 1 split pusher. If you can't handle that then you are obviously in no position to be complaining about split-pusher-trynd.

Not even as shaco who I main and played at least 1k games with alone can i decieve my way out of 5 men ganks. It just isn't possible. Thats assuming the opposite team understands my kit and arent total noobs. Trap him, kill him, continue to push.

Oh my god so hard! I'm genius for sure.

People man.. so lazy. Can't solve a problem and they want to cry ''OP''. I can bet my life that most of the people here crying hasn't spent enough time to fully understand tryndameres kit. Just complaining cause you cant kill him with a q,w,e,r combo.

Go play him for a day. 1 day and i bet you'll quickly learn how to counter him.You are bound to bump into people who know how to counter him hard and realize how useless he becomes against cc.

Riot already knows he is unhealthy so they keep him weak. They wanted to rework him and remove his ult but they decided against it due to it being his identity. To beat him I would say play someone like Ryze to out range him and force team fights so he can't split-push.

Anidan1 votes

How is he any more unhealthy than many of the champions currently running around? Isn't that whole "still useful even when beaten" thing part of Riot's big plan for a healthier game? So why is it that when Tryndamere accomplishes this he's called unhealthy?

If it's solely because of his ult, then.. it's arguably not even the strongest survival tool of the melee carries. I've always wondered why he gets called unhealthy for being able to be relevant even when he gets the shit beaten out of him, yet when other champions do that it's perfectly normal and healthy. He's not even the only carry that does it. It seems like the whole idea of "melee carry" seems to just be unhealthy in general, since every time they come out Riot is chastised for them.

because there's a difference in managing to still be relevant when behind to, even when behind, "removing" at least one person from the enemy team because split pushing itself is an unhealthy-ish thing

like, the problem isn't split pushing itself, it's how efficiently certain champions can split push (see pre nerfs / changes proxy singed, see tryndamere, etc)

Only Bronze and Silvers would say such a thing. People who don't know how to handle split pushing. If Tryndamere is pushing top, then you can 4v5 and win the teamfight with ease. Or you can send your top laner to stop him. If a fight happens your top laner usually has TP and can tp to you guys. Split pushing is a strategy and is very risky because yes you might take a tower if you are a good split pusher, but what good is that tower when your team is constantly dying because the game is a 4v5.

If you really think Trynda is easy to play or broken, then try to play him. He's not an expensive champion

I play champions I have fun with. Tryndamere is boring, so no thanks. If I want a free win, there are more fun champs that still manage to be easy wins.

And, since apparently you can't read, let me say it again: the problem isn't split pushing, it's how efficiently some champions can split push. Yes you can counter split pushing. Can you reliably counter split pushing in soloQueue against cancers like tryndamere? No, you can't.

Also, lol at you gold scrub, silver last season, saying "bronze and silvers would...". Get at least diamond 1 before you start trying to diminish other elos, and even then diamond 1 isn't that impressive nowadays.

Oooorrrrr, if their team is smart, they hide under turret buying Tryn all the time he needs to split take a tower or for you to lose a man to stop him.

Left Hook Larry1 votes

That's when you send your top laner up top to stop him, OR you can just get a free baron and then go top as a group and kill him.

ModAcademy Kayn2 votes

You send a top laner, they engage 4v4. A smart split-pushing Tryn is warding as he pushes, to try to ensure maxium escape potential, so he's going to see you trying to baron. Which means they know you're baroning, allowing them to try and steal/kill your team.

Baby Ghoul7 votes

He isn't relevant after you crush him, that's part of what makes him very unhealthy for the game. The team that has an underfed or farmed Tryndamere has a huge weight to carry. He either gets a little fed, then roams to other lanes crushing them, or he loses lane very badly and loses for the rest of the game. It's why so many rage quit if they don't get fed.

His kit is so annoying, but easy to overcome. It's designed to overwhelm a lot of players, but when you figure out how to build/outplay him, he just becomes an annoyance until you start dominating the lane. After that it's a cake walk.

I play Fiora against him quite a bit, and I have no CC, and I'm not terribly tanky. When I'm up against him though I rush item 3047 and item 3075 . I also get item 3140 and build it into item 3139 . summoner 14 this spell is essential for your match up because of his ult. However the best time to shut him down is always pre 6, so pick a champion with a decent early game, or ask for a gank. Trade with him frequently, and this should be easy because his bar requires him to push the lane.

Although he's not difficult to outplay, and doesn't require a lot of skill to beat for most champions, I do think he's toxic for this game. He sucks all the fun out of playing top lane, and I see him so much in my unranked normal games because people in bronze/silver fall victim to his ridiculous kit.

The most problematic part of him is that if he gets fed off of others, then you're in for a miserable game where you basically have to avoid him unless you have the full team. I wish they would rework him already.

SaltyKracka6 votes

just pick nasus lol :>o

youngjake936 votes

Of course the champ whose identity is to split push and not die is going to be good at split pushing and not dying. It is not unhealthy for the game to have unique niches for champs; it is boring to have all the champs have a level playing field in every situation.

Might as well say it is unhealthy for Kog'Maw to have such high range because no other champ can hit that far!!! You can't even itemize to hit from farther away, so that's really unfair /sarcasm

You need to be ahead of Trynd enough to tank him and do decent damage to him. Don't expect to 1v1 him with Darius after you fed him 3 kills already because you're giving him an uneven playing field for something he is already good at. He doesn't need to be changed just because people who play dumb die to him. Might as well take away Heimer's turrets bc they are his identity and dumb people die to him and he pushes fast.

Ironclad Dragon3 votes

Tryndamere players, I'm sorry. But screw Tryndamere's ultimate. Why should he be able to activate his ultimate why he's stunned? Why the Phreak can he subvert what should be a bedrock that you can always rely upon?

When someone becomes stunned, they can't do anything. They cannot escape or retaliate or even act. That's the whole point of a video game stun. If you're stunned, you're locked out. And for the most part, that's how it works in League. Except if you're Tryndamere –he can still activate his ultimate, which will outlast whatever stun you put on him. Then he will turn around and kill you.

Putting aside how aggravating that can be, that flat-out violates an otherwise-universal rule of the game. If you play any other champion and get stunned, you can't use your abilities. Even Tryndamere himself can't use his other abilities when his stunned. So why is his ultimate, of the hundreds of abilities that exist in the game, is the sole exception to this rule?

I will permit that a lot of recent champions have bent our perceptions of what's allowable in game, e.g., taking away control from your allies (Bard, Tahm Kench to a lesser extent), being able to attack and move at the same time (Kalista), bypassing terrain (Bard), giving allies the ability to stun (Braum), etc. But what if Riot made a champion who, if he runs out of mana, can still use his abilities? He's not resourceless; he can just keep using his abilities without a hitch if he doesn't have mana. Which means, yes, he can still benefit from Manamune and Archangel's Staff. That'd violate a fundamental rule of the game. Even "unfair" Ekko can't use his abilities when he's out of mana.

So why does Tryndamere get to subvert how the system works? "Oh, but Dragon, if Tryndamere can't get off his ult when he's stunlocked, he'll be useless!" I call crap! If Karthus doesn't get off his ult, he won't be at his best. If Gnar doesn't get off his ult, he won't be at his best. If Lulu, if Nasus, if almost every champ in the game can't get off their ultimate, they won't be at their full potential. That's why you stunlock them! You render them null and void! "Well, but, it's part of his core identity!" So is everyone else's ult. If Tryndamere really needs his ult that badly just to preform, that's a sign that something's wrong with his kit.

would you rather his ultimate also be like olaf, who can BREAK CC? Be glad it only activates.

Uh, no? That kind of contradicts what I said. I'd rather his ultimate be disabled when Tryndamere's stunned,_ like every other champion._ No one champ should get special treatment.
