Would A Nerf To Ahri's R Help Balance Her?

I'm going to go ahead and hop on the bandwagon of people who are sick of playing against Ahris every game. Four in a row now, to be precise. (Whoops, make that five. Another one in the game I'm queuing for right now.) High damage, extreme mobility, hard CC and sustain... In a ranged champion. There's a reason she's been at a 20% pick rate and 53%+ win rate for the better part of a year now (the fact that a champion with that high of a pick rate has that high of a win rate is frightening in and of itself, since you'd think people that are absolutely terrible at her would lower it a bit.)

Anyway, my main issue with her is the extreme mobility. The fact that move speed is tacked on to her Q was, in my opinion, always a terrible move, but her ult offering such unlimited mobility is where a lot of the problem lies. There is no period of time where Ahri isn't strong or safe. She can engage and disengage with ease at every stage of the game.

What if her early game was nerfed by giving her 1 dash for a level 1 ult, 2 for level 2 and the full 3 at level 3, perhaps with damage buffs to compensate? This would make her very feast-or-famine early game, where she can either engage with it and not have an escape or she only gets one dash to escape from a gank.

Downvote away, but I'm really looking for thoughts about how she could be toned down. :)

Today I learned that 3 dashes with a delay between each one on an ult is "unlimited" mobility.

I disagree with unlimited mobility, but she has too much mobility. 3 dashes and an MS buff on her Q.

Personally the only thing broken on her is the Q. It has too much stats. AP, true damage and movement speed. I can live with 2/3 of it, but giving her all 3 boni is too much.

Yeah, that was the wrong choice of words.

The static cooldown is only 1 second, though. That's not much of a delay.

Ahri's entire kit is enabled by her ult. Without it, or a metric shitton of kills, she can't kill anyone who has at least three braincells. Her sustain is abysmal in lane (not to mention expensive as fuck to actually use for healing), and pointless in late-game. The move speed on her Q is made useless for dodging anything simply because of its cast time. Her ult's damage, while it seems high, is, in practice, about what you'd expect on a mobility ultimate. It's just a bit less time than Akali's ultimate (negated by that Akali doesn't have to use all 3 dashes at once, and that she recovers one on kill (and every 30s at 1st rank with no CDR)), and just as important to their kits actually working, and, while, on paper, higher-damage (at level 6, damage on Ahri's ult per dash will be higher than Akali's), Akali's ult is actually going to hit every time, and Ahri is going to waste at least one use of it simply getting closer to her target, so she's either going to have to use flash to keep all of the damage, or she's going to have to just sacrifice some of it. Yet I don't see people whining about Akali (anymore), despite her actual sustain and mobility. Sure, she doesn't have hard CC on an easy to dodge skillshot (about the same speed as Morgana's Q, less range, a bit smaller of a hit box, and costing more mana) or true damage (rather useless against most midlane champions, whom often _don't build much magic resist) (Side note, Twitch also has true damage on his autos, yet nobody complains about that…), but, well…what Akali has is far stronger, for a much more minimal cost (Energy? You mean minor limitations to spamming abilities?). So I'm honestly confused as to why you're whining about one, but not the far more effective other…

If you want to beat Ahri, just fucking pick Yasuo or any assassin in the game. It's really that easy to beat her. Even the most braindead of people can press W to block her charm, or press E to dodge it.

It's been more than a year which shows that riot really isn't interested in nerfing her. It's the same with lee sin and yasuo. People play the living hell out of these champions every game and after forever we get 150 damage shaved off lee sins ult, which hasn't stopped him from instant killing me, and a miniscule amount of damage off of yasuos e. My best friend mains yasuo and said that the yasuo nerf was nothing and it couldn't be felt in game.

Ahri's going to be like this for much longer untill riot decides to do something. When they do, it's going to be a small as fuck change like "We decided that Ahri might be a little too strong in solo queue currently, so we will be nerfing her ult cooldown by 5 seconds to allow for a longer window of counterplay. Also to compensate, we added an extra 2 seconds on her bullshit charm." or something like that.

Instead of 100 mana for 3 dashes, maybe 50/75 mana for each dash?

So she has to burn 200/350 mana just to use her ult to the fullest (and if she doesn't it goes on cooldown after 10 seconds) while everyone burns 100 mana for their ults at full power?

Unless you're asking ahri ult to be on a charge system like akali's ult (which would be broken) then no.

Edit: 150/225 mana cost whatever.

Well if it's 50 per dash then that sounds pretty reasonable because some champs need 150 mana for their ult
