Why is Aatrox considered weak?
I don't see what's so weak about him.
He is MANALESS, have sustain, have poke, have an engage, have an escape, have good damage, and have a revival passive.
Wasn't he OP during Season 3? What happened after that?

He gets shut down early game. Hard. Hard. Let me say that again. HE GETS SHUT DOWN EARLY GAME, SOOOOOOO DAMN HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARD.
Because he needs to hit things to sustain. He does have good power, but this meta encourages 1 sided fighting, IE dueling is now reduced to hit and run tactics. Whoever gets their combos off first wins. etc, his sustained damage is less than favorable because even the tanky tops use burst now to fight.
Get Frozen heart/thornmail, he becomes useless against whatever champion built it.
Do they have a flash to dodge your q, or any other dash? If so, oh well, you don't have your gapcloser up for another ~7s of free damage on you
He got nerfed. That's what happened.
He got nerfed on his own kit, then indirectly took a huge hit on both the nerfs for attack speed quints and life steal quints
Everyone posting here is a non-imaginative, meta-subdued, light-loathing, annoying, generalizing, warped player. Aatrox's is, in fact, probably one of the top ten most effective champions. He's a dueler, yeah, but that doesn't mean he kills people by charging up to them and bonking them to death. There is a subtlety to using this kind of champion, as with many others, which involves playing to your strengths, controlling distance, and utilizing surprise. But they're clueless, so don't listen to them.

States Aatrox is top ten most effective champions with no specifications, just generalizations(?)
Any champion is effective if you "play them to their strengths," but Aatrox doesn't have many of them.
So Frost
Yeah, I was generalizing. Will you forgive me?
Tip: I wasn't generalizing like them, in a bad way. I was gneralaizing in a good way :)
Playing to your strengths involves not engaging your enemies in circumstances where your strengths can't be ideally applied. This can be done in any situation, like a team fight. His strengths here, entail very strong aoe damage and two escapes (one direct, and two indirect), which are easily applicable. Let's compare these strengths to Jarvan, to pick an example at random. He's reasonably good at focusing individuals in team fights (not as good as Aatrox, but Jarvan has more role as a tank), he has no aoe skills but his earthquake-isolating-enemy-champions thing is about as good as Aatrox's change-to-a-huge-big-raging-monster move. However, once the ultimates've run their course Aatrox has significantly more damage, much more escape and thus much more ability to catch-up with his opponents. So overall, Aatrox is more effective in team fights. What about laning? Dueling? Assassination? Support? Presence? Well, I could address each of those individually, but suffice it to say he's much better at assassination and dueling ability, and equal in presence. What's the point of all of this? To PROVE that Aatrox is superior to Jarvan which, no doubt, you now believe. If you knew anything about Aatrox, you'll also believe its true for almost every other champion (except about 30).
!
Aatrox's kit is weird. He wants to auto attack a lot but he can't really stick to things once he's blown his jump cooldown. Kit just doesn't seem very well aligned to me.
because every bit of his power has a significant downside to it, he just pays for too many things
he needs loads of stuff and once he starts getting it it usualy has a payoff to it that makes it medicore in terms of actual power
owerall he is ballanced atm, but he is realy unpleasant to play in a sence that you realy need to stretch yourself in order to be medicore with him
