Afks in ranked should lose LP for you.

It's clearly stated in Riot's rules in terms of afkers that it gives their team a bad experience when they afk. Put that bad experience onto the afkers by making them lose an additional 10 LP for each person who didnt afk in that game.

Maaaaaybe for their second offense. Not all afks are intentional (power outages, emergencies, choking to death on your Doritos, etc)

If it happens once a month, shouldn't be hard to recoup the LP loss.

If 'accidents' happen once a day, well, you found you problem.

H0riz0n2341 votes

Happens once a month really? Well you obviously are lucky sir.

Shinjusuke1 votes

Once a month shouldn't be surprising to you. If you're completely DC'ing from ranked games more often than that, you need to do something about it or stop risking people's games.

(Meaning total DCs, as in "you're gone from the game". Not random like 2 minutes disconnects)

If people leave, afk they should be given much higher punishments as incentive to not pursue those activities.

  • ban from ranked for X amount of hours, days
  • Account wide ban for X amount of days, months, years
  • Harsher LP loss that scales with each given leave, afk in a month. (resets if player does not leave a game in 7-120 days, counts normal leaves as well into formula but normal games would not cause LP loss. depending on consistency of leaves)

EX>

Player A leaves receives normal lp loss. (counter resets after 7 days)

Player A leaves again receives minor additional lp loss. (counter resets after 14 days)

Player A leaves receives major additional LP loss followed by ban from ranked. (counter resets after 30 days)

Player leaves a normal game Receives an account wide ban and severe LP loss associated with their next ranked games with the counter starting after their ban is lifted. (counter resets after 30 days)

Player A leaves a ranked or normal game after their ban has been lifted. Player A is banned from ranked and put into a category of players when they queue they are put with players who engage in the same behavior. (toxic, leaves, afks) etc., Which would call for longer queue times depending on if those players are available but also giving player A a taste of their own behavior from others such as player A until X amount of days, games are played without player A engaging in that behavior. Further leaves during this period would significantly increase the account ban time. Scaling into weeks, months, years depending on the number of leaves during this period. (counter resets after 30 days increasing up to a maximum of 120 depending on leaves.)

It shouldn't be based on days, it should be games, but I like where you're going with this.

I see so many ideas on the boards yet riot doesn't put them in. Do they not care or does it take like 2 years to implement this system? I mean I would also be nice to comment that you have considered these ideas or it just looks like riot couldn't give less of a crap about its community.

Shinjusuke1 votes

it's probably more likely that the majority of ideas sound good on paper, but in practice don't work as smoothly as they sound. I'm definitely not a "Riot defender", but that's the case with many things, game systems especially.

H0riz0n2341 votes

They need to take risks I mean the consequences of some ideas couldn't be that bad but without risk there is no reward. And it would be nice to know why some some systems cant work, riot really needs to communicate with the good part of the community (The pissed off ragers just ignore them.)

Can't tell you how many times I have been required to get my wife to give me the Heinlich manuever during a ranked game becasue I've started choking on a Dorito I was eating. They are my one and only vice!

Well yeah make the offenses reasonable and this system could work.

Team does not lose LP. Afk loses 1 rank.

If you don't have a stable internet, don't play ranked. It's that simple.

Yeah and how would i know when someone in my family gets injured, power outage in my neighborhood, etc. It has nothing to do with internet. I can agree with his idea if it was only for 2nd or 3rd afk onwards, but def not the first.

Some people with "stable internet" can still have it not work. Internet companies aren't perfect, and neither is there equipment. Technical difficulties are unavoidable, so you can't blame the person from that.

I'm not against leavers/AFKs to get a small lp punishment after a game, but it can't be too much. Shit happens

Llanite1 votes

1 rank is hardly much. 100/25=4 wins or 8 matches @50% win rate.

A genuine player would have no trouble getting it back, would only be a problem if one's afk at higher frequency (i.e. once a week).

I disagree. 1 rank can take quite a long time to get, because the way the ranked system works, is that a player with high skill who doesn't play as much, won't get as higher as someone with lower skill who plays a lot more. What I'm trying to say, is that you have to grind a lot of games to get your mmr to match your rank, and if one game (that might not be your fault) caused all that work to go away, then it would be very frustrating. I wouldn't play ranked at all if this were implemented, because sometimes my internet or computer takes a poop during a game (rare, but it has happened).

Llanite1 votes

Well if you afk more often than once every 8 games, I'm not sure whether anyone would play with you.

I see one glaring issue with this, and that is that some people just have bad internet (Or internet that has issues with Riot servers) You would end up with a lot of really good players that are in bronze 4 simply because they live in a house that cant afford the best internet ever made ever. I guess why I am so against this is because I have recently had a lot of issues with power outtages around where I live which caused one or two AFK's in the past couple weeks, I don't get to play much so losing ~50 LP would set me back almost 2 weeks of trying to climb the ladder. This could possibly make it impossible for people with less than perfect internet connections to play ranked at all.

You shouldn't be playing ranked if you have an unstable connection. You are going into every game knowing that you are probably going to ruin the experience of 4 other players. If you can't afford a good connection in the year 2015 then you may want to rethink your priorities.

It Hertz When IP1 votes

This. Don't queue for a competitive mode if your internet isn't up to snuff. I personally haven't gone back into ranked since my ping started spiking around the beginning of this season.

Vellich0r1 votes

That is a personal choice, but I come to this game specifically for ranked (when I even have time to play it.) I don't feel I should be punished because I didn't come from a family well enough off to pay for top tier internet, and I don't think anyone else should either.

Vellich0r1 votes

TL;DR

If you are poor, you shouldn't enjoy the competitive aspect of league. It's not an I am probably going to ruin the experience of four other players. It is in fact an, "there's a small chance that my internet will be bad tonight." If you wanna talk about what people can recoup in terms of LP. If I have one game where my internet dies at some point during the game (not even talking about full games here. It's rare that I ever start the game AFK) every couple of weeks. Should I stop playing ranked because of that occasional issue? I don't think so. Ranked is 99% of the reason I play this game, and while I am still too poor to afford better internet because I am paying for college, a car, car insurance, health insurance, rent, gas, food, and the occasional date with my girl when I can afford it I feel I should not be barred from enjoying the competitive experience which is ranked league of legends.

Don't play ranked if you know you're having connections issues. Stick to normals until you have a reliable internet connection.

Vellich0r1 votes

But why? just because one game every two weeks ends up as an afk for the last half of a game doesnt mean I should be barred from enjoying the one aspect of league I came to the game for. And the thing is, I don't even have these issues in games like starcraft or mechwarrior online (though I don't enjoy either of those games as much as league) It is primarily a Riot side issue that I have this frequency of disconnects (this is based on the fact that the issue only really happens when I am playing league of legends, so I assume it has some part to do with the game itself) I personally don't believe I should be punished for an issue which is partially a riot games fault.

As long as the system doesn't understand the difference between being afk and being DC, it's not gonna happen.

Unfortunately, this is the biggest issue. I'd be all for this if it could determine wither a disconnect was because of rage or a power/connection issue.

ZGM Dazzling3 votes

Actually its the oppisate afkers dont get punished because they never actually disconnect from the game usually just sit in base not helping and people whos fucking router is on fire dc and then get leaverbusted...

Leaver buster deliberately does not distinguish between these two. Riot's official stance (and I agree) is that if your internet is unstable enough that you've triggered leaver buster from random D/Cs, you should not be playing ranked because you are a liability to any team you wind up on. The occasional d/c loss that everyone gets shouldn't trigger leaver buster, and the lost LP is a drop in the ocean if you play often enough.

Laisenberg2 votes

If the player afk for more than 10 minutes, the after should take all the lp reduction.

Cupkek2 votes

I think that if there was actually an additional punishment for AFK/DC in ranked outside of just losing the game, there would be a lot fewer "internet problems" or "emergencies".

I get it, some people actually have issues that arise, but these things pop up too frequently to be credible in some cases.

I wholly support there being an additional punishment for AFKers and Leavers, and I agree with the sentiment that if you have unstable internet, you shouldn't be playing ranked.

GaleWinUnleashed2 votes

Then we get duos where one sacrifices their LP to minimize the loss for the other.

Way overkill. Current leaverbuster is harsh enough.

The thing you guys have to remember is that there are parts of the world outside of Europe and America. Australia and the OCE Region in general are renowned for Telstra (One of the big service providers here) flipping their shit and causing massive internet faults through capitals. South American net can be a complete joke and generally speaking, I barely know a player from OCE that doesn't suffer at least one random disconnect per month due to their providers just cutting them off.

While I get that people need to be punished, some places in the world aren't as fortunate as you guys are internet wise and as a result doing this would utterly decimate ranked queue for the other regions.

In defense of Australia, they're currently rolling out FTTH and FTTN Optic Fibre as part of their NBN Rollout Plans.

Our net will be 10x better in the next couple of years.

Maybe you just live somewhere really shitty, because I don't know anyone with problems like that at all (and I'm with telstra BTW).

Like, to the point where I can't even remember the last time I or anyone else had problems that weren't caused by unavoidable things like thunderstorms and shit like that.

Don't you even pay attention to politics, FTTH isn't happening anymore except in a couple VERY select areas, because our abbot and turnbull are mucho retardo. FTTN is barely going to solve anything, it still has to go over the shitty copper the rest of the way to your house, and it is basically ALREADY obsolete now before it's even halfway finished.

I personally Live in Tas and understand that my net should and will be bad compared to the rest of the country, but a lot of my best friends from Perth suffer from the odd cut out, along with my Brisbane and Sydney friend getting uncontrollable periods of lag for no apparent reason.

Also I don't pay much attention to politics, though I suppose I should so can't really talk much about that.

Well some players could take the fall for their friends by leaving intentionally so his friend or his team don't lose lp, I think everything should be the same except for the player afking/dcing who should receive a lp penalty on top of his defeat.

Jevokan1 votes

If you are AFK'ing every ranked game due to a poor connection you shouldn't even be in ranked. If you are then you are knowingly taking the chance to ruin the game for 4 other people and are being selfish. If so then I don't think you are entitled to a soft treatment on how much LP you lose if you do disconnect.

Why should the rest of us bear the burden of someone else's problems that they can't be bothered to fix?

Jingerbeardman1 votes

ya know something... I actually like the core of this idea. I dont think it would be wise to have the rest of the team that had the AFK get nothing for the loss, after all I have won 4v5 before. If the leaverbuster didnt punish quick enough I could see something like this being possible.

SolusInCadere1 votes

I don"t play ranked, so am not sure how harsh this penalty is, but I like it. Even in normals, and AFK/DC can decide the game. I recently had a mid laner who had their lane opponent dissapear, then went 21/2 and carried the game. ruining the game for your team needs to be punished

Woook3r1 votes

Wait, I have an idea. AFK's and DC's in the first 20 min just end ranked matches

bad arcade kitty1 votes

no, they shouldn't lose lp to you or be a free exit because it's abusable and will inflate lp, any non win/loss method to get/save lp is harmful (and even any non game method to lose the actual elo (i.e. mmr) can be abusable too, the new system when mmr is separate from lp prevents it though)

but an automatic loss, regardless if the team won 4v5 or not, and some additional minor (5-10 lp or so) penalty for afkers is probably fine

also regardless of the mode, games shouldn't start if 1 player didn't connect at all in like 30 sec or so, that player should get dodge penalty and the game should be disbanded
