"Stop using 3rd party websites to check MMR, it's inaccurate."
My bad, I'll just go check it in the clien....
Nevermind.

The context of most people getting told not to rely on third party mmrs is because they feel they have normal mmrs and hence their LP gains/losses are bugged, which really the latter is the best indication of our true mmr and how we can tell the third parties are wrong. (Or occasionally people complaining their mmr is going the wrong direction after a game, or changing without playing any games.)
We don't really have any need to know our numerical MMRs, as much as it might be interesting.

I disagree here. Your rank is literally meaningless outside of season rewards and who you can queue with. Your teammates are decided by MMR. Your enemies are decided by MMR. Your gains and losses are decided by MMR. The only reason the ladder exists as it does is to force you to grind out all the games required to make your rank match your MMR. That's it.
Yes, mmr is the important thing and rank is merely a cosmetic overlay.
Knowing your numerical MMR value still doesn't impact anything though. Currently you have an MMR of X, and so your teammates/opponents will have an MMR of around X. This is true whether X=1500 or X=500 or X=2500, and those numbers don't actually mean anything on their own. If you actually play a game, you can see how skilled players of an MMR around X are, and if you play a ranked game you can see how an MMR of X compares to the average of your rank.
Riot could secretly multiply everyones MMR by 10, and since everyone changed by that same factor, you'd still be matched with the same people, and have the same LP gains/losses, despite having an MMR of 10X now.

Everyone isn't X. The teams are balanced so that if you have X, your teammates can have one person with X-50 and one with X+50 while the enemies all have X. The lane of X vs X-50 is at a disadvantage.
Yes. Does this depend on the value of X? I don't believe it does.
You are right. But having everything determined by a hidden value is ok. But having everything determined by a hidden value while displaying another false value is messed up.
