I recall someone saying doombots is broken due to some system update. Said a lot of work would have to go in to make it functional again.

AMYS GRAVE2 votes

I mean, each doom bot has to be coded by hand, which takes a lot of manpower. What they have is just so outdated that every bot would have to be redone, and now there are how many more champions than there were the first time?

I would love for a more difficult bot experience. I used to think testing new champs/builds out on bots was good, but they just get face rolled before the build kicks in. Bots are what they are though at this point.

Pretty much.

they honestly don't need them. the only players who SHOULD be playing vs bots are the newest of players getting used to the game before they dive into PVP. those players are usually sub level 18 (keystone levels) so giving bots a keystone would actually put truly new players at a disadvantage.

players who are experienced enough to be level 18 probably aren't playing vs bots anymore. and those that are will stomp them keystone or not.

You'd be surprised how many people play bots, either for the 'first win' bonus or just because it's a mode where you're extremely unlikely to encounter ragers, trolls, AFKs, or the bad kind of tryhards (you know the type). Though you do encounter more bots (the XP farming type). Good for relaxing after a stressful game/day. Wouldn't mind seeing the bots get some touch-ups to make them a bit harder. Also wouldn't mind Doom Bots, but there's a lot of scripting involved with that.

It Hertz When IP29 votes

I played exclusively bots back when my connection was shit for the longest time.

RisenDarkKnight11 votes

Actually, coop vs ai is where tryhards are most annoyingly problematic. If you are trying to test a build or a new champ at lvl 30 chances are you won't get to 15 mins because someone will have 30 kills and be killing their nexus by then. Sure no one rages, but it's pretty hard to get a chill bot game after lvl 30 where no one rushes to end or gets so many kills the bots are worth 50 gold.

I always just do a custom game instead of coop vs ai for that reason. I can end the game at my own pace, not watch someone wait between the enemy bot turrets to get a double kill on draven before minions spawn.

I like doing a custom with my son or fiance rather than solo. Bot team mates are pretty bad and play too careful to be good team mates. I.e. Taric bot at 60% health fleeing instead of helping.

Lydia in Doorway3 votes

Yep. I play bots exclusively because while I like playing LoL, I'm not a competitive enough person to be a strong player. I play to relax and like messing around in bots. I wish there were more types of bot games actually.

Kasyrgan7 votes

They should just add a new level of bot difficulty.

Easy bots are for new players lvl 1-5. Then they get pvp and go there.

Intermediate bots would be for the lvl 5 players who got their asses kicked by smurfs and had to find out the hard way that they need lvl 18 (Keystones)

Difficult bots could be for lvl 20+. Basically grinding for XP or IP or if you are looking for an assured win of the day (But you still have to work for it unlike in Intermediate bots)

RIP Resonance6 votes

Please, no. Zyra bot is too strong and should be playing in the NA LCS.

Pyrodonis6 votes

While we're on the subject of buffing bots can we please have a bot jungle instead of 2 Top laners? Also if you can increase the difficulty a bit that would be great as well.

Reaper Soraka3 votes

Also give them like 50gp10 and a random bonus stat boost (+50% armor/MR bonus from items on tanks, +50% damage bonus for ADs, +50% Ap bonus for APs)

You can't make bots play very well, but you can make them harder to just run over.

VoraciousX7 votes

That would moreso make it easier for them to run over you than for you to run over them. There are times where the bots CAN do some nice things(mainly when they're grouped up on one person). This is my experience from setting up custom games to test builds and whatnot.

Bot ganks can be pretty terrifying. I've watched three of them annihilate a diamond ADC, who was just as surprised as we were. Their CC timing is immaculate, their aim is exceptional, and if the game goes long enough (or someone feeds them a lot) they do a surprising amount of damage. They fail at every level strategically and tactically, because they're bots, but mechanically they're surprisingly capable and when you run into a group of them they can do things that surprise you. They show other clever behaviors at times, too - Buy a Sunfire Cape and try to push a tower, half the time one will walk up to you, proc the cape once, then back up and let you eat tower shots.

Most people don't remember Doom Bots, where bots had all the advantages and the average League player couldn't fight them. They had to resort to split-pushing to win.

Abyssphere3 votes

From an absolute ton of bot experience I can't say I agree that their CC timing is impeccable. They all have the same "go" buttons so if one of them CCs you then you can bet that every other one who can will unleash their CC at the exact same time. You'll typically get ulted by Annie, Malph, Ashe and... every other present bot at the exact same time and they'll burn every other damaging ability they have on you while you're CC'd. Only reason it works is because 5 man focus fire will kill almost anyone that isn't very tanky.

rampaging poet1 votes

I don't think the Sunfire thing is deliberate. I've often seen them get stuck walking back and forth impotently when their towers are going down if you're even slightly ahead of them. Their "protect the tower" goal tells them to walk forward, but they get too close to you and their "flee the strong enemy" goal makes them leave, causing them to walk in circles. The bot probably just changed its mind about fighting you once it actually got close, just like it would have without a Sunfire Cape.

VoraciousX2 votes

I totally agree with this, but rather than that, I'd prefer if you could choose their summoner levels and masteries under a settings command or something. It'd also be neat if we could select bot behaviors for them, for example, Garen, even though he has a passive that regens HP, instead of sitting under tower regening HP after you take his health down enough, he just runs off and backs, leaving you there to farm until he gets back to lane. It'd be nice if we could define what they do under certain situations to create some nice mock battles, like with my Garen example, you could define what he does when he gets low HP, to something where he goes to a location where there are no enemies around and regens his HP while hiding. This thought is custom mode obviously.

Though for masteries for the normal bots you could make their summoner levels the average of the player's summoner levels, giving them whatever masteries would benefit them most in the given situation and possibly runes(if they're level 30+, cuz no one uses runes below that, then again I forgot those tier 2 runes are on sale for 1 IP per rune, so I guess you could give them tier 2 runes if they're in that range of levels).

Xenos111112 votes

So much this. Should have been done at the start of the season, Intermediate bots feel really lackluster. They should also get full tier 3 runes while Riot's at it.

Levik2 votes

Why? Usually people playing bots have no keystones since they are not high enough levels.

PhDs Nuts2 votes

There are three tiers of bots, and the lowest (Intro) doesn't even have an IP/xp dropoff until level 10. The highest tier should introduce keystones. They should either make a higher tier of difficulty (harder to program) or just give keystones to the intermediate bots.

Levik1 votes

Still, until you are level 18 you will not have a keystone yourself. That is plenty of time for a beginner to have graduated to Intermediate bots. The only reason why someone with keystones should be playing bots is to practice combos which only need a moving body to hit.

I do not see any reason as to why Keystones are needed for bots since their main purpose is for new players.

Selrick0021 votes

Counter argument: Wouldn't it be better to teach beginners in bot games keystone power, instead of it in PvP where they could be frustrated by them a ton. Like you said by 18 they should be on the cusp of Intermediate Bots. If they learn keystone's earlier they will be better off for it.

Starrke2 votes

The issue is there is no minimum level requirement for intermediate bots. It's the worst feeling ever, but I've actually lost 2-3 games because players below level 10 thought they could handle it, only to end up feeding. Of course, I've also had the ill timing to try champs out that I've just acquired, but seeing an Ahri 0/6+ is sad. It's even worse when you're playing TT, and 2/3 of your team lack keystones and are feeding.

Selrick0021 votes

Yes that is true maybe they should make a min required level for intermediate bots? If they do add keystones.

Bacunwulf2 votes

I disagree with the keystone thing since I play intermediate quite a bit just to get my daily and I normally end up being the only one with a keystone on my team in about every 1 in 3 games. Also Riot would need to actually fix other issues with the bots first such as them not being updated until sometime later, such as two weeks ago GP was still able to put out 4 barrels. Also they would need to fix the bots having eternal vision of players constantly, try playing against GP bot and he will ult you no matter how deep in the jungle you go. It also can be annoying to play any characters with stealth since certain bots will autolock onto you and hit you before even you know where you are going. If they did add another bot difficulty level I would say lock it until at least level 20 or so to keep the people who currently love to play intermediate without keystones or decide to play their first match ever in intermediate out.

Starrke1 votes

The level requirement is especially ideal for Twisted Treeline. - had a game were I (1/3) had a keystone mastery.. It didn't end well.

GigaPube1 votes

personally id never like to lose to a bot game in my life, and any decent player who does, should have riot scrambling and panicking to fix the real shit that goes on, not this pitiful bs like adding keystones to them so they have a better chance of beating a player with 4 bot teammates....riot adding keystones to bots is like senators planting trees. its useless but they get the braindead masses to like them. they can do less work but get on the publics good side. dont show riot we're easily persuaded with this meaningless pith. show them we want to play their game in a way that both parties can be happy. this is with the assumption that this would take about 20+ hours of work, so if it really only took like 2-3 hours by a single rioter and it didnt have any bugs, fine whatever, let the baby have his bottle, but theres just so much more stuff riot can be working on over pitiful junk like keystones on bots

Wtf is your post?

An important part of the game is grooming new players to be prepared for PvP. The suggestion to bring intermediate bots closer to PvP builds and playstyle makes sense.

Judging by your post, I am positive that you have played with a newer player who isn't familiar with the meta on the rift. Wouldn't it be nice if they had the opportunity to play against AI that mimicked low ELO PvP? You know so they could improve without necessarily getting flamed or feeding?

I like the idea of bot junglers too, but I understand the AI limitations involved.

dragon1xx1 votes

I have an idea: Why don't we bring back doom bots and put keystones on them instead? It kills two birds with one stone.

Exitii1 votes

I think they should just make a Hard mode, then they could add that stuff.

Starrke1 votes

Why incorporate this into intermediate bots, instead of having advanced bots? - It doesn't account for the low level players (10 and below) that try intermediate and feed. - Specifically for Twisted Treeline, since SR isn't anywhere near as bad. Alternatively, set a minimum account level for intermediate bots, and it'd be fine.

Keystones wouldn't be the difference between a player that feeds to intermediate bots and one that doesn't. Advanced bots would be a lot more work to make than just adding keystones to the bots we already have. I'm 100% for having a higher bot difficulty (with a jungler if possible, but it probably isn't without giving a huge early monster damage reduction or something), but that would be a much harder request.

Starrke1 votes

It's true that it won't impact a feeder's performance much, but it'll certainly have a negative correlation with their KDA. Again, if a minimum account level was required, I'd be all for it being added to intermediate. In any case, most of the people posting in this thread are already level 30, and seek more than just keystones being tacked on anyways. It might be a worthwhile endeavor to implement advanced bots, especially since doombots has yet to debut in the rotating game mode queue.

Jo0o1 votes

I'd prefer Advanced bots if anything, but honestly, I'm not sure if it matters. The skill level at which abusing a bot's AI becomes easy is fairly low. Giving them keystone masteries won't change that too much, unless they're also programmed to jungle, roam, ward, gank, contest dragon, etc.

Seriously though I have some requests for bots. As other have pointed out, if they could somehow program one of the bots to Jungle that would be awesome. I like to practice jungling builds but having that basically unopposed makes it hard to get ready for real games. And second, they need to fix how the bots build. I notice many of them buy early green wards which is pretty nice, but they usually hold on to them until they are level 18. So they end up with an incomplete build and are not as powerful as yourself with a max build. Have the bots just sell their ward late game and fill that last item slot with something meaningful so they end up in a better place stats wise.

EROTIC RAID BOSS1 votes

I don't see the point. its mostly new players that fight bots, and you don't need them to have keystones to test a new champ

Young Babine1 votes

Or make a hard difficulty to bots

Zedex1 votes

I second this, even though I stopped playing bots long ago. They're OK practice, and can be fun. Theres really no loss without the keystones, though. Either way the bots will be weak.

Milodic Mellodi1 votes

But it would make them more challenging for beginners, and maybe prepare them easier for actually doing well in Normals (and when you play better in Normals, you're more likely to do well in Ranked).
