If Aatrox is in a good spot, why does...

Why does Aatrox have neither good base stats nor good scaling? Im a Diamond player in euw, who plays Aatrox usually (for the case i have to play toplane). Not because i think hes a great champion. Hes just the one i have most experience with concerning matchups. Recently i had 2 ridiculous games emphasizing how weak Aatrox actually is:

  1. Aatrox vs. Renekton: I knew this is a matchup not in favor of Aatrox before i went to my lane. However, due to misplays of my opponent i was able to get a 2/0 and 20 cs lead over the enemy Renekton. I was about to hit level 9, when my opponent just got his level 7. I had a Botrk and Renekton only a chain vest and a giantsbelt. At this point, any other toplane champion could have easily beaten the Renekton 1v1. I engage, hit the knock up, ult, hit my e's that fight. But, Renekton killed me 1v1 and survived with 33% hp. Is this balanced, when you are able to outsmart your enemy, but not being able to snowball on it, because the champ you play has no great scaling early on? Especially on toplane snowballing is so easy for the champions played on this lane. But, Aatrox can't.

  2. Now this matchup Aatrox vs. Tryndamere was very interesting. I knew my enemy ran 35% crit in his runes. With his passive he could have theoretically 65% crit early on. I tried to deny it as much as possible. We both had our fails in lane, it was pretty even. What did tryndamere do? He rushed phantomdancer as first item. He had base 70% crit 100% with passive. He simply waited till he doesnt crit a minion, used e towards me and made me halflife with 2 crits. Now Riot, why does a champion, who has a kit like tryndamere or: Why has a critbased champion MORE base health and MORE health per level, than a champion like Aatrox? He does not need to build any AD, since he deals more damage with crits only, while he has more HP as well.

You nerfed Aatrox's passive and E to offer more counterplay against him, but he lacks the ability to counterplay opponents as well. In his champion spotlight you presented his strength in outsustaining a Tryndamere, but in reality he is not able to duel him the entire game. Building an Item, which should synergyze good with Aatrox like spirit visage, makes him so weak in any fights offering nothing special for his team beside a knock up and a few slows with a long cooldown. You HAVE to go a maw of malmortius to be relevant as a fighter ending up being squishier than other champs, who can fulfill that role.

Riot likes the idea of adding a fear on his ult. But, they say it should be something a tank should have. So, why dont you add it with a scaling duration on his fear dependent on how much armor/mr/hp he builds similar to the scaling on Randuins for example?

Or give that Champ, who is considered as a Tank second, not ridiculous low base/scaling hp (far lower than a crit champ, which you actually should beat concerning lore).

Nobody said Aatrox was in a good spot.

Tryndamere's passive along with 35% crit runes(not sure if that's even possible or if you mistyped 30%) gives him 70% total.

Wow you lost a 1v1 to Renekton and Tryndamere? Very surprising. Renekton and Tryndamere are both notorious for being ridiculously strong in 1v1 scenarios despite being behind. I don't know why this is new to you.

Read the part about renekton again. He had a giants belt and a chain vest. I had a complete blade of the ruined king and had level advantage. He was behind. however, i was unable to beat him in a 1v1. I have killed him twice in lane after smaller fights. I dont know any champ who couldnt 1v1 him. Aatrox cant.

Riot justified his nerf, that Aatrox should need to build damage without being naturally tanky later on. But, there are enough champ right now, who are naturally tanky and deal as much damage without buying any ad. Like gnar. Even a critchamp like tryn can beat aatrox with 5 - 7 autoattacks, if he has phantomdancer only. Furthermore, he has more hp naturally as well.

Okay, I never knew a Rioter said that, so mb on that. But I'm pretty sure they're just saying that because they produced a failure of a champion and they don't want to deal with it so soon. Super generic champion with generic abilities in the middle of 2013... He just has a lot in his kit and he needs to be reworked or put some serious work into for a very long period of time before they get him right.

And trust me, Renekton can 1v1 almost any top laner dude. Even when he's behind. That's just how Renekton functions, and that's how Tryndamere functions. Those guys are just real meanies up at top lane.

Aatrox is one of those champions that either snowballs and becomes godlike, or gets shut down early and hits like a wet noodle and is just as squishy.

Aatrox needs a way to disengage as well as avoid damage instead of just trying to tank through it, having his Q pop projectiles and possibly reduce the cool down with each auto might help him out quite a bit.
