Examining bias towards AD damage and AD champions
Let's say there are 2 items, one for mages and ap assassins, the other for some ADCs and ad assassins.
The AP item gives a lot AP, some CDR, and an active that makes enemies struck more vulnerable to magic damage for 4 seconds and deals 15% max hp magic damage. This active has a 90 second cooldown.
The AD item slows by 99% upon exiting stealth for .25 seconds, deals bonus damage upon exiting stealth, has armor penetration, and can also deny vision on a 90 second cooldown. This item is also cheaper than the AP item and works far better as a first item so it's impact is felt very quickly. This item also has cooldown reduction. The slow and bonus damage passive can also be reset continuously by champions with blinks, instant stealth, or ones that make use of brush very well like
.
Now, one of these items was removed from the game whereas it shined primarily on AP assassins and some battle mages. That was the AP item, Deathfire Grasp.
The AD item,
, has gone through numerous iterations that were all problematic. The community has been quite vocal about how much this item has broken the game, and the notion that it's too cheap for how overloaded it is. And with how easily many assassins snowball with this item, there is no reason for it to exist in it's current state.
Be consistent Riot, either nerf this item or remove it.
