Riot's biggest failure when Balancing Mordekaiser.

I've always held the belief that Mordekaiser is healthiest as a low-mobility AP Bruiser. Rumble and Kennen are perfect examples of that.

The biggest issue I've noticed with how Riot has tried to balance him (and I'm referring to Old Mordekaiser here) is that they never recognised that fact that his 'power budget' (the amount of overall power in his kit that Riot divides and allocate to all of a Champion's abilities) ever actually matched that of Rumble and Kennen.

This means that when Riot went to tweak (Old) Mordekaiser, they were making trade-offs. RIOT FINALLY GAVE MORDEKAISER SOME SORT OF MOBILITY IN 5.4 - but they lowered the damage that his W dealt. Even then, Mordekaiser still needed more mobility. A item 3044 passive on his Q, or Movement speed toward champions that he uses R on.

Then Riot gave up. They decided to rework him.

Months later, his rework comes out and they've finally given him a bigger power budget. But they shifted most of his power into Q as well as gimmicky passives on W and R. His W and E as combat abilities were actually much weaker. But it didn't matter because taking a dragon = free mid tower and you always won lane because you were multiple levels ahead of your opponent. As soon as that was nerfed, Mordekaiser fell off the face of the earth.

Nowadays his power budget is probably about the same as old mordekaiser, but is diluted by his W and R passives.

Take this with a grain of salt. I was only ever a Mordekaiser enthusiast - never a dedicated Mordekaiser main. Some of this might be subjective, or not relevant to how other people played Mordekaiser. I just always felt that Old Mordekaiser wasn't that far off competitive viability, and the Riot gave up on him and did his (failed) rework.

I said he was low-mobility and has no true mobility in his kit.

his E makes him moving at the speed of light and this isn't mobility?

It's a spectrum. Immobile = nothing. Low-mobility = movement speed steroid. Mobile = Single Dash/Blink. High-Mobility = Multiple Dashes/Blinks (Lee Sin/Vi) or low cooldown Dashes/Blinks (Ezreal/Lucian).

that must be a strong low mobility then, since it let him get away from 90% of ganks.

Sorry I didn't get your point or if there was one?

Basically, Old Mordekaiser was straight-up under-powered. He needed a slightly higher power budget to be able to afford some mobility.

Riot gave up and reworked him. Instead of spending his new power budget on mobility, they broke him with his W and R passive as well as funnelling what power his budget had left into his Q. His W was no longer really a damage ability, and his E turned into simply being waveclear + a way to apply rylai's slow from range.

Ya I was there bad days. They did some good. Added E delay to add counterplay.
And that's about it

i don't know if i could understand what you were trying to get across, but I sort of agree with you that he has a very misplaced power budget. still, I think ultimately a larger rework is in order at this point; Riot doesn't want to go back to old Mordekaiser as an AP fighter and push him as a juggernaut instead.

Both Old and Reworked Mordekaiser are already Juggernauts. You're simply labelling him as a Juggernaut without differentiating between AP and AD Juggernauts because the client doesn't differentiate Bruisers and Juggernauts and simply lists them as Fighters. There's a big difference between a Mage and an AP Juggernaut. The only difference between a Juggernaut and a Bruiser, however, is that Bruisers have true mobility (Dashes and Blinks).

It's why you can build glass cannon on Katarina and call her an assassin, or build AP-Defensive items and caller her AP Bruiser. You could never call her Tank because she has no Hard CC, and you could never call her a Juggernaut because she has a Blink.

So calling Mordekaiser a Juggernaut and saying that Riot doesn't want him to be an AP Fighter is like saying you want Cappuccinos but don't want coffee. It's coffee regardless of what you call it. The only difference is that you've identified the sub-type.

old mordekaiser was a full AP nuker, not a juggernaut

I remember being able to harass the unholy crap out of most champs, and even force Nasus under turret AND kill him, completely shutting down his late-game by hitting him with E's just at the edge, keeping me close to or on the very outsude of the turret's range so I could easily walk out before a shot was fired, and then even if a shot was fired i could likely shield it. I loved it.

I'd argue that his E is stronger now that it gives so much shield for hitting enemy champs. Less damage, sure. That had to happen. But that hardly means it's a weaker ability overall.

ABlueQuaker1 votes

Most of his damage output is on his Q now. You could hardly call that healthy champion design.

It's certainly better than spamming E on your lane opponent non-stop like it was before.

How to stupidly buff mordekaiser that doe's not make any sense lore-wise add root or grounded and slow to e

near instantly makes mordekaiser viable and as a mordekaiser main it would solve all my 1 problems
