"You're playing Yi, your opinion doesn't matter."
This was said to me last night. I'm trying to practice jungling more, and I threw Yi into my rotation partly because he's popular, partly because Hextech gave me the Project skin, and partly because I think I need to abandon my own hate.
Ya see, when I saw "You're playing Yi, your opinion doesn't matter." I had to laugh, because those words have ALSO flown out of my own mouth. At Yi. at Tryn, at Lee, at Yasuo and Zed. Almost every melee AD. I hate them all passionately and never miss a chance to shit talk how broke and easy they all are.
But I kind of realized awhile ago that that's a thought process best abandoned, you know? Why hate champions just because they're strong and do well, you know? People say the same thing about Annie and Malzahar and I'm always right their pointing out "muh counterplay" to shoot down their hate-on.
So I decided a bit ago to start using Yasuo and Yi a bit more. Not much, not like "new main", but enough to get a feel for them and work through my hatred a bit. Get to know them instead of calling them douchebags behind their backs (metaphorically). The Taliyah story partially motivated this, it makes me want to get to know Yasuo a bit better.
But when "You're playing Yi, your opinion doesn't matter." happened, it felt... good. Like I was doing something right. Like a sword being dipped in flame to forge it stronger.
So I had to wonder... good LORD, is this what I've been doing to my enemies? Because getting trashed just for playing Yi feels.... good. Like I want to get better at him and EARN that trash talk. Like a badge of rage.
Don't think I realized how trashing others kind of fuels their desire to crush everyone in front of them. So, uh... woops. :x
TL;DR: I got trash talked the way I've trash-talked others, and it makes me want to own it.
