Why does GP get such a free game once he gets Trinity Force?

It's almost like Irelia used to be and I'm tired of seeing GP every game. Right after Trinity Force he proceeds to stomp the game and end with a 20/5 score despite starting off 0/5.

GP with just Trinity Force is not stomping anyone - with this item 3031, some crit chance from statikk and similar items and some armor pen, he starts doing dmg, but he is still worse than a fed ADC and he suffers vs ranged champions. The biggest problem with GP is that he can stomp other melees, while being almost useless vs long ranged - no dashes and the barrels are easy to blow, before he chains them unless it's a setup from a bush or behind a wall.

Ok sure but why1 votes

I still respect GP for being one of the few champs left that actually buys damage items in order to do damage

He could probably just build Trinity Force and go full tank after and still do enough damage to destroy the enemy team while being unkillable because % missing HP heal.

No, he wouldn´t. Because his damage is entirely on building crit and quickly lining up barrels to Q crit a lot of people.

Watch Tobias Fate's videos/stream. He often goes Cull and/or Spellthief's Edge due to how he plays. Farm a bit, then poke. Farm more then poke. Gangplank goes TF because it´s the easiest way for him to get closer to 45% CDR while also itemizing for the kind damage he does.

TF into tank GP doesn´t exist because there´s no reason for it to exist. He´ll take long to die, sure, but he won´t be killing anyone unless he ults a low HP bot lane for a double kill.

You not understanding the champion does not make him overpowered.

I understand him, he's a mid-late game powerhouse with too much power in the mid game that leads to an overbearing late game. They should reduce his base damage(in turn reducing his trinity force damage without nerfing much else). It's not like he doesn't have loads of damage in every part of his kit(including passive).

When being countered and getting ganks constantly killing him, eventually he gets that trinity force off of a lucky bot lane or mid lane ult(or just eventually farms it up slowly) and proceeds to stomp everyone. Literally every game I've played against him recently I've gotten him constantly killed with 0 returns, or at least went even, and then he got trinity force, and the game ended with us losing to a 20+ kill GP who could throw one barrel at you dealing more damage than current fed assassins.

I'm not saying the guy is busted beyond repair but I'm tired of seeing him and the fact that he's so freaking forgiving is driving me insane.

I mean he's not exactly overpowered atm... And the changes to Thunderlords' Coding will be a massive indirect nerf to Gangplank.

I'm personally still hoping Riot will get rid of his increased Gold Income and compensate him in other ways, because it's a rather unhealthy mechanic, and makes his powercurve... weird.

From taking a look at your history, you seem to pick Riven, Yorick and Yasuo against him? Yorick does well into GP, but gets outscaled because he's Yorick. Yasuo is a skill matchup for Gangplank. This can really go both ways, and the whoever wins will stay ahead. Riven should not have any issues killing and feasting off Gangplank. If you can play Riven well, Gangplank's a walking bag of gold for you to pick up.

Jayce, Irelia, Camille, Pantheon and Ryze are some matchups in Toplane that will make Gangplank wish he was never born. He's very easy to gank, so if you can get your Jungler to come to his lane and kill him, you can get him behind, keep him behind and finish the game before he catches up.

Hope that helps, good luck in your games ^^

Thing is, I can kill him again and again, he just comes back with a vengeance so easily. It doesn't help that a lot of times they can Q barrels before I can actually auto them, despite being right on top of them ready for it(or getting to it right before he launches his Q. At this point they might as well not even have HP, there's no contesting them unless the GP you're up against is new to the champion). I can also dodge them. In the last game where I was Riven, we'd killed him 3 times pretty much a minute after he came to lane. He got a revenge kill in the last kill. After that Kat killed him again. Then by the 15 minute mark(he suddenly finishes his Trinity Force) he pops off and starts getting kill after kill after kill.

Now I'll analyze the Yasuo game. Killed him consistently, he finished Trinity Force around the 15 minute mark, started popping off again. Luckily I had the damage to go toe to toe with him solo for a while still, but eventually he just crit me for over 75% of my health with a Q without the barrels and let me tell you, randuins is kinda shit. It's crit damage reduction feels practically useless.

The Yorick game is the only one where the GP didn't pop off but it only lasted around 20 minutes and I don't remember what happened in it. It's kinda weird though that GP always finishes Trinity Force around the 15 minute mark. He didn't have enough time to pop off, since he completed it at 15:53 which means he had basically 4 minutes of Trinity Force.

As for getting jungler assistance, this is what I generally do, I let him push to my tower and prep him for a gank, he dies to 2 or 3 ganks, comes back at 15 minutes with item 3078 ready to blow anyone's head off he sees.

Oh and could I be directed to these thunderlord changes? I can't seem to find them.

't just takes some practice tbh, I have no issues out-lasthitting Gangplank Kegs as Sion, Yorick or whoever I decide to play.

That's just not true.

Might look for the TLD changes if I have some time, a Rioter commented about them in a thread complaining about Lux proccing it with 1 spell + passive proc IIRC.

Oh it was true. It was late game but it happened. As for the barrels I used to have absolutely no trouble crushing his barrels before he could get a q off but recently I can't do it at all in some situations. I think it's because he was standing a lot closer to them than most GPs do so the q went before my autos. This happened several times though and I used to think contesting them was no prob.

You just want your attack to land the moment the keg reaches 1 health, not start the channel when it does. Do that properly and you'll out last hit him :p

I know that, lol, I always tend to do this, that's how I generally keep his barrels from detonating. In the past few games I've played against him though that has seemed impossible. I don't know what was happening but they were detonating before my auto could go off regardless.

I mean it's whatever though, I'll just ban GP until people stop playing him as much, despite my permaban on Malz(because support Malz gets rid of his weaknesses), I don't see him as much as I should anyways. I'm guessing what's happening though is the GP is doing the same thing, but his q may happen before mine if we both do it right before it gets to 1 hp.

i mean his damage is loaded almost entirely into his E, so... its a bad concept. An AD caster thats got blow your load syndrome is a terrible archetype. His barrels are all very dumb in their scaling - they dont have a base damage; their damage is the damage used to proc them+an AD scaling if i remember correctly. If he crits for 1000... his barrels do 1000+. Thats so incredibly dumb.

Not to mention he can Q his barrels before you can auto them. I used to think you could get an auto off to fuck him over, but recently GPs have been Qing barrels before I could auto them despite how fast I get to them, or even if I'm right on top of them waiting to auto them.

Just because Tobias Fate doesn't do it doesn't mean he wouldn't do enough damage to kill everybody and still live. His oranges heal %missing HP, much like Rengar. Once he gets trinity force he's damn near unstoppable without 2 people. Give him more HP and his missing% heal will heal for more. It's not rocket science. He wouldn't do AS much damage but he'd do enough to kill people and still live, much like bruiser Rengar does.
