I'm disgusted that there's no special Loss Prevented created for AFK's from the start of a match.

Let me set the scene so you can see my frustrations.

We go through champ select no problem, we await the countdown to the loading screen. I don't see our top laner's portrait or loading progress, so I'm thinking "Crap, she must have not connected.." Whattaya know, she gets summoned in the middle of the starting circle. The optimistic side in me believes that she might have a shoddy connection and she's trying to get back in the game ASAP.

Twenty-five minutes pass before this top lane connects, much to our team's joy / frustration as we wonder why the hell she's been gone for so long. She went on about some errors that happened and I shook them off and just told her to farm up as best she could (we had just lost an inhib right as she connected).

Oh, and they had a Jungle Teemo and a Top Blitz by the way; looking at champ select, I'd say we had a pretty good shot at winning, you know, IF WE HAD ALL FIVE. But we still lost, and there goes 16 LP down the drain even though I still played my heart out and didn't rage my head off at our top.

**I'm no master programmer, but why the hell is there no loss prevented that activates if the game sees that someone didn't connect from the start of the match? **

You'd just have to follow this logic: "If Champ A isn't connected at 0:00 and the status doesn't change by X min mark, the allied team gets loss prevented if they lose." I mean it's that simple, Riot. Notice how I say only at the very beginning; this makes it so that we don't get Loss Prevented if someone ragequit in the middle of a match due to poor team communication. The only way someone would be D/C'd at the start of a game is if they had connection issues, which has no comparison with their attitude in-game.

PLEASE. Change this. Save allies like myself this frustration, knowing that there's like a 90% chance we're going to just lose LP and waste time in situations like this.

EDIT: Because some aren't following other posts, I've changed the idea to only have the AFK lose LP, while the rest of the team gets Loss Prevented for actually staying.

As someone who has awful internet and sometimes DC's I can say that I feel awful when my game crashes, but I almost always make it back within about 5 minutes. Maybe I do, maybe I don't, but I always try my best make it back. I have a few friends with similar problems but they also try their best to reconnect.

We're trying our best, but sometimes our internet just screws us. And we're sorry it affects everyone, but having shoddy internet is worse for us, trust me. I played a ranked game and carried the team all the way to inner turrets only to have my internet crash. The next day I checked, and our team won but I got a leave loss for disconnecting. Another time, during promotion series I was 1 win 1 loss, and going into the final game and I disconnected during Champion Select and was dropped from the series. We're getting screwed much worse than you, and we're sorry, but it just happens. We do our best to stay online and play our best but sometimes luck just doesn't go that way (kinda like when you get crappy teammates 2 games in a row).

I think the best case scenario, is for RIOT to give less LP loss to those with disconnecting team members and full LP loss for the ones who disconnect. Giving a loss prevention or punishing disconnectors is unfair to everyone. But really, it's just life man. You're not the only one getting screwed up games because of this. Next time maybe the other team will have a DC and you get a win.

You figure that this would be an easy fix. Someone never connects to the game then the game doesn't count. But I'm sure everyone has had those games where you spend 30 minutes in a 4v5 trying to miraculously pull out a win, just to lose anyway because of missing a teammates and still get a full LP loss... It's so silly

I'd say if a player fails to connect at the START of the game (Maybe doesn't connect in first 2 minutes or so). Then the dc'd player suffers same consequences as a dodge (maybe a little heftier penalty like -10 to -15 lp on top of current dodge penalties) and the rest of the players are removed from the game with no consequences or match history recorded.

This doesn't solve the problem for dc's in the middle of a match (which I don't think there is a real solution to), but does help with in cases where one of your teammates never connects.

Potential for abuse? Thoughts?

Scenario created by handing out Loss-prevention

  1. Player doesn't like the champions other people are picking, or what role/champ he got stuck with.
  2. Player thinks to himself "Well, this is a guaranteed loss. Wish I didn't lose LP and risk restriction for dodging.
  3. Riot comes to save the day! "Oh I guess I can just close out the game and do something else for the next half hour. No leaver flag, no LP loss, no frustration."
  4. Player afk's and comes back when the match is about over and definitely lost because of him. "Sorry guys, Riot's stupid game wouldn't let me connect. Report Riot."
  5. Asshole Player gets loss prevention.

Giving afk'ers free loss prevention will only serve to greatly increase the amount of people leaving and ruining the match for 9 other people. The only way to give loss prevention fairly like this, is to NOT give it to the person that left, but give it to the rest of the team. They should not be punished for someone who afk's or continues to play with bad internet on purpose, and that person should definitely have to face the consequences.

Then, perhaps only the AFK(s) would still lose LP, so there'd still be some punishment for bad communication in the pre-game.

"The only way to ensure that any loss prevention system would not be abused, is to make the penalty for going AFK so bad that no one would ever want to do it intentionally. Ideally, the person who AFKs loses five times the LP. If they are in promotionals, they get kicked out of the series and still lose the LP. Everyone else gets a loss forgiven.

If the penalty for going AFK isn't severe enough, then the system will be abused."

What Zen Fury said above. You afk you take the full LP loss of the team. Please dear god. Just had a VI feed 14 kills by 20 mins the go afk the rest of the match. Sorry but the other 4 people on the team (including myself) Should not lose 12-20 LP because of ONE person.

Deep Terror Nami3 votes

You're trying to have your cake and eat it too. The system can not possibly differentiate between someone who AFK's intentionally, and someone who just turned the game/internet off. Riot has to balance between a reasonable penalty for those who AFK intentionally, and having a penalty that doesn't make people who have a real problem (that doesn't happen regularly) want to quit LoL.

Envy Sin2 votes

I don't think your cake thing works.

If one doesn't have a cake how would one eat one?

If one has a cake but cannot eat it what is it for?

Try again please. Maybe try something like "You're trying to have both the cake and the Pie, But you have to share one of them."

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

I don't like the saying but that's how it is. If you like to have both cake and pie in there, you're a fatty :3

Envy Sin1 votes

"You're trying to have your cake and eat it too."

Okay go eat a cake without having one, Or have a cake but don't eat it and see how useful it is. that saying makes 0 sense.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Again, I don't care for the saying, but it is a common one and everybody but you understands it.

Envy Sin1 votes

Yet it makes no logical sense.

A more logical version of this saying is “You can’t eat your cake and have it too,” meaning that if you eat your cake you won’t have it any more. The point is that if you eat your cake right now you won’t have it to eat later. “Have” means “possess” in this context, not “eat.”

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

I'm unsure why this conversation is happening. I'm not even reading your explanation because I already stated I dislike the phrase, and that it is both common and understood used in the proper context. Preaching to the choir won't change it.

Envy Sin1 votes

Ha! you "won't read it" because i'm right. Enjoy using a incorrect, and senseless phrase.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

I know you're right dude, stop it. How many times do I have to repeat this? You are preaching to the choir. Or do you have issues with that saying too?

How about AFKer get's normal LP loss, while others who participated only half? Tey have played. They tried. Not their fault someone DC'd or AFk'd. This method ofc could be abused in full 5man arranged team (1 quits, 4 get their penalty lowered), but i think it could work on solo que.

Wouldn't that be bit more fair?

Envy Sin1 votes

You're aware that if a team loses the whole "team" loses the LP in a ranked 5s game? so there coulden't be any type of abuse in that fashion. Even if someone left the whole team would lose the same amount.

Of course this would be used in Solo que.

Saianna2 votes

Uh, but that's just my idea how to lessen punishment while playing handicapped.

Tbh i don't really understand you. Not sure what you mean by this post. I just gave pretty simple idea. Also informed of possible cons (5man arranged team could abuse it).

Envy Sin1 votes

You can make a 5 man solo que of people ALL that know eachother? OR are you talking about Ranked 5s?

Saianna1 votes

ranked solo

Envy Sin1 votes

alright go ahead and make a ranked 5s team. Show me a SS of the friends on your list, and a SS of the champ select.

Saianna1 votes

Ok I now i see you don't understand my post. But i don't mind. Did you even read it..? Meh nvm

Envy Sin1 votes

"(5man arranged team could abuse it)." "ranked solo"

"alright go ahead and make a ranked 5s team. Show me a SS of the friends on your list, and a SS of the champ select."

not sure what else you're trying to say. (If you don't know what a SS is it's a Screen shot.) prove that a 5 man arranged team (In solo Que) is possible. Please, I would LOVE to see it. (The best i ever got was a 3 man team, My other two friends ended up on the other team, I'v been testing this.)

Don't give loss prevention to the afker? Duh?

That was in there;

Epilogue of Life2 votes

how about the game just ends with a draw when if a player DCs?

TheI3igDaddy2 votes

Because then there'd be no incentive to play the game for either time, since they know that nobody will win and get LP. The winning team should still be rewarded for winning; 4v5's CAN be won, albeit very rarely. If the 4's team is obviously handicapped though, should they really get a full loss of LP?

Epilogue of Life3 votes

The game should just END when someone goes DC.

PrinceArchie2 votes

If a team suffers an AFK they should either loss significantly less LP or have a loss prevented. The winning teams should always receive less LP for the win because whether intentional or not the win was illegitimate or skewed.

warpenguin5552 votes

could work but only if the afk player takes all of the LP loss

I just think the normal amount of LP should be lost. Take my example; if my top didn't D/C for any sort of ill-tempered reason, and it was solely due to a messed up connection, do they deserve to lose like 80 LP or something? Hell no, I'd hate to be that guy.

ravenswolfy1 votes

Riot created a game and a setting to which you have to have a stable connection and committed time to play a game of any mode (normal/aram/ranked etc).

Having a loss prevention for someone who afk's gives no incentive to play if all it took was to have one person afk during a game when they know they're going to lose.

It would be much better if the game was forced quit if someone didn't connect within 5 minute of the game start and would result in no LP loss or gained but would be up to a vote if that team wants to continue to play or not and risk a 4v5 game or hope to see if the person would reconnect.

For matches where someone afk's in the middle of a game or DCs and the game finishes. The people who won should get the full LP benefit of the win. The people who lost with that afk/dc person should have a reduced LP penalty while the person who afk/dc should get hit with the full penalty regardless if it was intentional or not.

The issue arises when this becomes some sort of strategy to exploit the system. You get a duo Q partner who plans to AFK intentionally... Then your team attempts to win 4v5 (knowing it's 4v5 and planning accordingly)

If they win, great... if they lose, loss prevented anyway, so they will never lose LP.

I mean, eventually you're going to win some 4v5 games. It happens. Especially if it's from the very start, because say you have no support, then the adc is going to be getting twice the XP gains as the enemy bot lane... so as long as the ADC is good enough to survive for a while in bot lane, they can outlevel the bot lane and destroy them with one jungler gank.

Or maybe the jungler just goes ham and gets super fed... maybe he camps bot lane frequently and gets fed and gets the adc fed as well.

Either way, it's a win-win situation if exploited, and that's why it isn't implemented.

Even with HARSH penalties for the leaver, it will still happen.

sigh

Don't give loss prevention to the afker and his premade.
