here's the secret behind new morde: stop bothering with tank items

full ap toxicity morde is best morde.

gunblade -> rylais -> (ap itemization based on enemy team)

enemy team do lots of physical? zhonyas enemy team do lots of magic? abyssal

you will always want a void + rabadons. if you're feeling cheeky, you could probably get away with a nashors

stop bothering with trinity. you're not really catching anyone extra with it. the stats on it are all nice stats, but it isn't enough for morde to really get a significant power spike out of it unlike other champions (mostly, the zeal build path blows)

AD morde doesn't really cut it, AP itemization is still stronger on him AND gets him beefy while also buffing his magic penetration (void), which he absolutely needs to do damage. building morde tanky doesn't solve anything and makes him ignorable, since the third Q damage gets a lot of damage ignored outright without some pen
